See my post 26 about API so I have no axe to grind
Advice about a second hand engine needs tempering as to where you buy from.......Banny STi on here was selling his Jap STi engine on here for about 900 quid.
It has a well known background and would be a good buy to drop into a car with a knackered short engine, as would Chrisdicko's, as again it has a background.

No worries, on a serious note I know a used block from here seems a good cheaper way to go but by the time you have factored paying someone to remove, give the rest a once over, then re-fit the new block, re-tweak the ecu etc then end up with no warranty on the work carried out I would seriously think about forgetting all that and go for a drive in drive out service from David at API or similar but API would be my choice. Tell them what you want, give them the budget, drop it off and wait for the call to come and pick it up and knowing that if there were any issues you will have some form of warranty.
Best of luck with it all and hope you get it sorted

i feel for you mate, i'm in the same boat at the mo, brought a v3 uk, bottom end went, got a second hand engine then the gearbox lost third gear, got a gearbox then the bottom ends knocking on the other engine all within the last 2 months ,
so i'm now gonna rip it out on monday and replace the shells at least i know it'll last me a bit longer .
in a weird roundabout way i'm not really that bothered because i love working on it but when you look at how much it costs it kinda gets you down,
good luck on what ever you choose to do, jays

Make.some.calls mate, I don't think.it maybe as expensive as you think. Especially iwhen you factor in the cost to.remove and fit the used.block.

im interested in chris dicko's engine but he is unsure wether it includes the oil pump and modine.
if i were to source these seperate it would get too costly.

Hi Banny
Who got your engine in the end..........I would have bought it but the whitehead family are now the proud owner of a very large and slow transit van !

Gutted to hear of your engine loss bud,but i blame that Blueprint oil filter you just fitted
Joking aside,why did it spin a shell,normal wear/tear etc,high mileage ?
Good luck with the resolution, its never good when this happens but it could be the time for upgrades,as you look like you may

im thinking that putting a sti8/9 shortblock will be a bit cheaper overall and as long as its a good one will also be a good strong engine to put in,this is also why im looking at blocks that include modine and oil pump,my budget is as low as possible and will have to pay for stuff gradually.

Sorry to hear the bad news mate ,but that is the main reason i wont sell my 00 uk wagon until it goes bang . A V5/6 sti would be nice as they accelerate quite rapidly but while my current car is running brilliantly and not losing a drop of oil/water,and producing good power figures(on the same turbo as a v5 sti). ,i am really reluctant to sell it .
How long did you have your wagon for ?,and did it give you any major grief whilst you owned it ?
