You're looking at a big bill for a rebuild here I'm afraid. Rebuild by a reputable expert the only "safe" way of proceeding.
Don't try and cut corners, you'll only invest money in something that might not last and leave you even more out of pocket in x weeks or months time. If you can't afford to have it done properly it's best to either save up or cut your losses and sell up.
400bhp can't be done for 2k reliably!

i agree. a 2k 400bhp build will last all of ten mins, then theres gearbox? that wont last long either. brake upgrade? suspension?
if ya not wanting to spend 4k-5k at least and do it all right i'd rebuild the engine back to standard with acl bearings, steel head gaskets etc, and keep it around 300 bhp.

yeh well all im thinking is that as soon as i get a company car its going to be my road/track day car but might just get it to about 320bhp with the gems on a quality standard rebuild then strip it out and get some good suspension and brakes on it

You may find that you will have more fun in a well sorted 320bhp track car with good brakes and suspension than a 400bhp car with standard brakes and suspension. Especially on track!

right its getting a full rebuild with andy at scoobytecknix, with a sti 8 bottom end etc and a front mount then the gems going in all in one go ouch on the pocket but needs sorting

I think you really need to decide on what you can afford.
400bhp will cost you £5k easy......if you want it to be reliable.
Gearbox, suspension, brakes, cooling....all need to be looked at.
Then you have cost of insurance and then maintaining the thing.
Not knocking it at all, if that's what you want, fine, go for it.
But you are kidding yourself if you think you can do it all for £2k.
