You did well then. Hotshot is awesome but the RC10 even then would have been a bit of a whippet by comparison.

Wouldn't mind either for the shelf but I've pretty much run out of space.

Guys, has anyone got a spare Tamiya 540 (Mabuchi) motor kicking about?

I'm letting my son loose on one of the Lotus Big 6's but the motors I have are too powerful for him to get used to.

Well , what can I say.

Been out and about testing the Schumacher Big 6's . Been great fun I must say.

I've managed to get my 5 year more in tune with the co-ordination side of things but still needs work. Lowest turn motor I could find at my Mums was a 17t , so changed the 92T spur for a 95t and changed the pinon from a 20 to a 16 for him but he still struggling bless him. So going to buy a cheap silver can Tamiya 540.

Had the ESC fail this weekend after it got wet so had to pop out and buy another one for him. Also swapped the radio over from my Big 6's as he couldn't get on with the Steering wheel type. So purchased a 2.4ghz system for myself.

Took the car over to an empty car park and my sons controlled improved slightly. A bit more practice but getting there.

I treated my car to a full strip down of the diff and gearing. I've now put a 86T spur in with a 32 pinon on a 14t motor.........the motor last all of 5mins before frying!!!

So , need to get another motor but not sure what to get? Been looking at a 14t double mind rebuild able but not sure what one? Any suggestions?

Would go to a 12t motor as my ESC it limited to a 12t but I’m using old school batteries mAh on 4700 cells.

I'm going to be attacking the FG Modellsport cars next week. I think I need a new couple of servos and an alloy arm.

Also going to make some diffusers if I get some time.

No buddy I'm not. I know I should but to be honest. I am only using the EP cars to get used to using them again and a bit of fun.

But, the bug is getting to me and I feel another hobby kicking in.

My mate has a brushless short course truck and that goes well, power seems smoother and lasts longer. Even though his is 4x4 and my Big 6's suffer from shocking understeer I was doing ok .

I want to go on a track big enough for them. But you need to be a member and there are not many local to me. Even worse for the FG cars. Think the closest track is Kent!!

Yes you've got brooklands in kent, used to love that track, so fast with an 1/8th car. There is adur in hampshire somewhere, not sure if aldershot is still going> These are all on road tracks btw.

There are some really cheap brushless set ups available, rc-mushroom for about £30

Purschased another x2 Big 6's the other day off eBay that need some TLC and refreshing. Some new parts etc. One of them is a Nitro so not sure if to sell the nitro engine and convert to EP with the sale of the motor?

I plan to use one chassis for my son to practice with, one for bashing , one for wet weather and one top spec.

Madness, what am I thinking.

Not sure how Adur run their club Steve, at Mendip you can get day passes for about £10 or £15 I think.

I had a bad one at the weekend with all 3 of my schumachers big 6's dying due to wet electronics (one 2 large puddles as well).

My ESC fried itself (its an old Schumacher Matrix 12F) so l thinking of going brushless.

Looking at a budget combo for now but the Mtroniks G2 12T or the Etronix Photon 2.0 9.0R


Any thoughts on what to get?

my speed controller back in the day i shrink wrapped it, and i actually saw guys putting them in Condoms to keep the dry.

mainly when tonking in the snow thats what used to get me.

Cany advise on the new ones, but that expensive onelooks sexy, and its all about power right ?

That's what almost killed my speedo, Trying to drift in 1inch fresh snow at the WLRC track. Was fun, but out of about 40 people, there was only me and one other out there. Everyone else was just watching to see what happened.

Out came the hair drier.

Go brushless Steve, used with lipo's they shift and dont require any mainentainence.

As for waterproofing, use vaseline on electrical connections and where wires enter servos etc.

I always put the receiver in a balloon and you could do the same with an esc, just make sure that it is sealed through a combination of several zip wraps and vaseline, just beware of condensation building up inside!

I need an RC car for my boy for xmas. He wants a 'monster truck'. He's only 4 1/2 so I don't want to spend hundreds as he likes to take tyres off things and hide them for some reason?

Anyway, it's gotta be rechargeable cell equipped, pre built (as I won't be there with him xmas ) but not really shonky.

Can anyone recommend anything?

Just had a look online and think I'll go for a HPI Maverick Ion. Looks pretty nice for the money, RTR and looks the part..

I was tempted to get him one of the Tamiya VW Campers and paint it up like Filmore from Cars (Disney) but I'll get all twitchy over it & I want him to have fun with it.

He'd love that as it looks like another Disney Cars character, Sarge. Trouble is, it's a kit to build up, plus it's going to be over £200 by the time I've bought radio gear, batteries, paint etc. He's not really got the discipline to look after expensive toys yet.

I'm going to switch from tamiya connectors soon as I have read they can melt from brushless set up?

Had an fg evo 4 with oddified helli setup, was a mean bit of kit, having said that it was a few years ago now, i am sure the 1:5 has moved on like everything else

TBH I dont know much about different brushless set ups so cant comment on which of those is better, but I do know a few people with cheap setups that work very well so price is not always an option unless you're getting serious!

Unaware of tamiya connectors melting but guess it could be an issue, deans connectors would be better, or rings and the brass push style ones, having a brain glitch and cant remember what their correct name is

Must say brushless does sound nice, I remember all the hassle I had when I was in a championship, I had what was known then a Demon high torque engine, and it was running like a dog, every race I had to drop some droppers in clean the carbon etc, I got through to the final and had, had enough.

When I raced then a guy called is Ian I think came from outley model sports with his sons, and had a little stall at the side of the track, I ran over bought a brand new demon ht and won the race, think the prize then was a new 540 motor, but not by demon, some 18 turn fast thing, can't remember the names.

I'm only presuming you'll have none of that **** with brushless.

Say goodbye to turbo drops lol

IMO brushless ESCs MUST have a separate fan or they get too hot.

Also make sure the spur and pinion gear mesh perfectly or they'll get chewed up. I wouldn't seal an ESC - it would get too hot.

I've killed three ESCs and one motor so far (snapped the pinion axle!) - they are rather highly strung but great when working.

I run an 11.1v lipo battery which doesn't help...
