Gold pans I think are the most sort after. There are two versions in as much as the gold pans were made in two locations. Associated moved to bigger premises so the original RC10 gold pans are more expensive. Although you can only really tell from the box. NIB "Caddies" are over £1000 whereas the later address are about £700. Least that was the price of the ones on ebay recently.

Probably start with a cheap Tamiya TT01, blutack in the rear diff to lock it up and some drift tyres.

From new purpose design kit for drifting and keeping costs down then 3 Racing make some cheap kits.

http://www.rcmart.com/3racing-sakura...cPath=420_1417

I run a Sakura S Zero and although parts take a week or so to arrive they are stupidly cheap.

UK based:-
JEModels
Wheelspin
Apex Models
MB Models
Ross Mods
DMS Racing
Bolton Model Mart
CML Distribution (End of Line RC is also part of CML)
Giant Shark

Europe (good for current yokomo parts)
Tonisport

Far East based:-
Hobbyking (has US, EU and UK distribution - good for Lipos cheap and reliable)
RC Mart
Stella Models
Banzai Hobbies

That lot should keep you going. I've pretty much used them all without a problem.

I recently bought this for my daughter to run at our club.

Its really good fun. I'm even being tempted away from touring cars to run one myself.

I wouldn't spend that sort of money on batteries. There's a wide price range for batteries and plenty of mention that most of them are made in the same place. I can't pretend I know all there is to know regarding Lipos but last set I bought were Turnigy Nanotech 5300 from Hobbyking for 30 odd quid each. Charge in a charge bag just in case they explode! Only kidding but sort of according to YouTube. Don't spend a fortune on chargers as branded ones tend to be made in the same place as cheap brands. Try SkyRC chargers.

As for where to buy it depends who has what I need. I tend to buy accessories from modelsport or wheelspin and spares from JE for the SC10 above or RC Mart as they own 3 Racing which make my tourer. Hobbyking for cheap electrics but if the item is buggered out the box it's easier to buy again. I bought my last ESC from Giant Shark. I also recently used RCBearings for a new set of bearings for my Axial SCX10, the Jeep in my avatar pic on the left, and Fusion Hobbies for a set of GMade XD 93mm piggyback shocks for the Axial and Junfac for softer springs.

Any questions just ask. Might not always be right but I can try.

Ah now I'm not sure which was first Edinger or Caddilac.

If you particularly want a gold pan RC10 head over to RC10talk and do some research. Get as much info as you can before bidding. If they are anything like trying a get a mint original Yokomo YZ10 you might need some research. The Yokes are very hard to get parts for and alot of cars claiming to be this special or that special are actually just a bodge of alsorts to get a full car built and flogged on ebay. I just sold a YZ10 for £95 which I'm pretty hacked off about because I was completely honest with its condition (not mint but not a pile of junk).

Ed Lipro battery's,

from this list
http://www.modelsport.co.uk/batterie...es/9920/992025

whats diff,, and which do I buy for a car if it was a hotshot I presume it would have to be a single layer batt as I see some are dual layer

can you explain

Also if you were to buy 1, not too bothered about weight, but I want max power and longevity ,

thanks

Or maybe here

http://www.radioracecar.com/pitlane/article.aspx?a=4741

Also in anticipation of a question on motors this might help.

This might help. Its not something I'm completely clued up on - I left the hobby just as Lipo and Brushless came in and I've learnt what I need to get by but not guru level here By layers do you mean the 1s, 2s, 3s - this means 2 layers of cells in series or 3 layers of cells in series.

All I know is if I buy 5300 with a 60-100C rating then I'm sorted.

What I don't know is whether the Hotshot can take a square shape Lipo or a rounded corner Lipo in a similar shape to the old Nimh cells. Tamiyaclub forum would be my first port of call there.

Although I've seen lots of people doing it, I've been told not to use Lipo cells with brushed motors as it "can" potentially burn up the brushes quicker - I did notice alot of arcing when I used a brushed motor on a lipo just recently.

thanks Ed ive just won this

cost me 99 quid, but its 200 for a new one, and this has a few bits n bobs on

Appreciated I wont be using a brushless as it will indeed melt it, so I suppose I need to try find a happy medium good 540 with a Lipo batt, for longevity.

I want 20 mins runs not the old 7 mins. I,ll spend some time with it and fully ballrace her give it some front suspension, maybe add a carbon chassis, and save up for my K1 for the real deal

That is awesome. You could run a brushless system just dont get a too lairy motor. My daughter has a 17.5 in her short course and I've geared it low enough to be controllable. Hotshot should cope would cope with it no bother.

A K1? nice looking car. I bought the older off road racers whilst they were on special SX3, B44.1, BMax 4 WE, 410R v3. Out of all of them I'd probably go with the B44.1 parts seem so much easier to come by. Having bought them I'll probably run a short course during the summer if we get some good weather. Wanted to do rallycross but don't think theres enough in the club to run a series this year.

Gonna give modelsport a ring tomorrow see whats happening, batley buggy clubs close to me so gonna pop over and have a look.

Yeah my 2 racers will be a k1 and 442 once I save up, but for the hotshot I need to ball race it grease her up, buy batt and engine, and radio gear.

I'm old school so I'm going to have a stick, I had the new controllers when I have my traxxas revo, but I still prefer the sticks.

Then I,ll throw some suspension arms on the front and that will be it

Do you both have chargers that discharge and fast charge?

Also I presume they charge nimh also not just lipo?

Most chargers will do both Lipo and Nimh these days. Lipo aren't as fragile as Nimh and don't need charging/discharging. As long as you don't let the lipo go flat it should be fine - you can balance charge Lipos now and again or like me I balance charge every time. If you are using Lipo on brushed ESC and motor the ESC won't have a Lipo cut off so you'll need a Lipo alarm they are a few pence on ebay. My crawler is brushed running Lipo and that has an alarm. The crawler motor is a 55t so not very fast but bags of torque. I get about an hour crawling before the alarm goes off.

You are lucky living in Leeds as I think there is quite a few tracks in that area - I think Wakefield has a good track. My wifes parents live in Pontefract and I've gone up to Modelsport a couple of times. Bit pointless now as they have pretty much done away with the shop and its all online.

You could try looking for a B44.1 kit. There must be a few that haven't sold. Whereas the K1 is completely new I'm not sure whether the new bits on the B44.2 justifies forking out at least another £100 for what amounts to a few tweaks.

I got all my 4WD kits for well under £200. The Durango was £169, the SX3 is the non carbon version so about the same. The B44.1 was £199.99 and the BMax was just over £200. The BMax in fact I was a bit naughty. I ordered the car then at payment decided to cancel. Surprise to me I get an email from the shop saying its on its way - but I hadn't paid for it. Sure enough it arrived and to my shame I just kept it quiet - they were bound to find out eventually. Of course they did and I paid immediately and to be fair they are the EU distributor for Yokomo so if I did choose the BMax to race I'd have to come clean and pay up.

One thing that you will hear more than once is go to your local track first before committing to a particular chassis. If they all drive B44 and you buy a K1 no one can help with setup. It might be boring everyone having the same but at least everyone can help you with setup. I make things hard for myself and almost always buy something no one else has. The touring car I'm using is made by 3Racing and parts are really only available from the HK shops Stellamodels and RC Mart (think RC Mart own 3Racing) so parts for the car take up to 2 weeks and no one at club has a working setup. Grip is a big problem where we race and I've only just managed to get the car to the point where it still slides but is predictable. I just end up drifting round the tighter corners which looks and feels quite cool but isn't fast

I have considered going with the flow and getting an XRay tourer but I'm likely to be just as sh*t driving that as the Sakura

Those wheels are DF03 wheels.

Not surprised re Modelsport. I think the larger they business the less time they will have to answer questions. Plus without wishing to diss the hobby you do get some clicky *******.

I would register for Tamiyaclub forum and oople forum and ask there. Tamiya club for tamiya cars and everything else and oople is more racer questions. Modelsport also has a forum which should be useful.

I didn't know that.

I wouldn't worry, its a good place but unless you want some very obscure question answered on a particular car (which they are excellent for) you should easily get the right answer from oople or MSUK forum. Oople has a vintage section with many knowledgeable users who are also on TC so I doubt you'll have a problem getting answers.

I'm always happy to help if I can so reply here or PM if needed

K1 is very cool looking but belted cars can be more maintenance and more prone to failure. However belted cars don't have the twisting force you get with shaft cars. Like I said I would check the local club first beforehand. B44.2 is most likely the safest bet. Xray traditionally are amazing quality. K1 does look physically very cool. There's also the Durango, Laser and if you can wait JQ are about to release a 1/10 buggy which is likely to be a bit special. Not sure on release date. Sworkz have a 1/10 about to come out and Castor Racing SK10 V3 is also quite the looker but parts will be a pain.

Any of the three in your list will be awesome cars. Go to the track first!

In the mid-nineties, there was a 1:10 off road buggy, which had a adjustable front wing. It had a sleek body. I'm guessing it was Predator or something aggresive.

Can anyone remember the correct name of it and manufacturer? I can recall it was out at the same time as the Losi XX, the RC10.

It was a Predator. You can still get them sort of. The X11 Pred I think you can still buy the kits but they are not cheap. Think it's on the Team Xtreme website. Very cool looking car.

Looks the business mate

What electrics are you going to use?

I've got the cheap Etronix transmitter (or whatever branding it is Core etc) for my daughter and I've never really come across anyone that doesn't think it does the job but for me I think its sh1te. I have gone out of my way to buy up old KO Propo Esprit Vantage transmitters. One to use one for parts. They are more but I just find them very good at what they do.

Nothing wrong with any of that. Can't use guns myself

I looked a the SP Reventons but there was a bit of an issue with the early software I think so the last ESC I got was a Hobbywing Xtreme Stock. Does the job although I've set in "Blinky" mode as it makes my tourer easier to drive - I was stupid fast when I first but the ESC in and I ended up ripping the front corner off on a 1:1 tyre.

I use a turnigy 13.5T in my tourer and its been mint. I have a Savox low profile in my tourer and its been fine. I bought a cheap digital turnigy from Hobbyking and the jury is out on that one. My daughters car was pulling to the left last time out and didn't seem to want to center properly.

Don't know about flicker. Sorry. Keep me posted on how you do on the track - I can sum up my experiences in one - I'm ****, but I enjoy it

Where are you based ed if you don't mind me asking.

Yeah I heard about the revs software I may go hpi then
I must admit I like sticks, I may get one of each, that code one for 70 is ok I think.

No reason to get a mega expensive model.

You any ideas if the telemetry on the dx3s is any good what exactly is it gonna tell me?

Quick Reply: what RC car have you got?
