As has been mentioned, a bottle of wine plus a bit as you said if a lot to drink and to be honest, it is not surprisding that you feel the effects the next day.
I know I certainly would and I have always had a fair resistance to the effects of alcohol. Despite that, I find hangovers so unpleasant that I make sure I don't drink enough to cause one of those the next day.
The after effects of drinking a lot of wine always seem to be a bit worse that other forms of alcohol too, can't explain that.
Anyway, as you said-the answer is pretty obvious.
