I really don't need anything too powerful, I want to wash the loose crud out of the walls after picking the loose lime cement out, before pointing up. Anything TOO powerful will just leave me with MORE work

I'm toying with the idea of the less powerful, but more expensive Nilfisk, with patio cleaner, wash brush etc for here, and taking the cheapo Wickes one we have here, to France. It already HAS a wire on plug after the plastic earth pin fell off the old one , so easy to change to a French one.

Tricky this as IMO the nozzle/lance attachment has an effect on the 'power' as well as the pressure washer's ratings.

A pencil jet nozzle (especially when brand new) will cause damage to soft/eroding surfaces. The same with 'rotor-blaster' type lances which will leave circular marks as essentially its a pencil jet that rotates.

A fan jet OTOH is less damaging; but they come in two forms: Solid brass fan jet nozzles are more powerful, whilst the 'variable' reed type lances are usuall more gentle.

Most jetwashers usually come with a variable reed-type lances so you can vary it from a high power pencil jet to a wide (but less powerful) fan jet.

Thanks for that, Ali. I guess I could experiment with the one I have.........I'll not be standing too close to the wall anyway, I just want to put enough water on it to wash the crud down, quickly, so as NOT to have too much to mop up: it's INSIDE, you see

I did one wall with a garden sprayer, but it wasn't a great success

When I used to service and repair pressure washers, we would tend to sell Kranzle for small requirements and Karcher when it required heated water.

KEW were probably the best engineered but very expensive.

snow foams my car fine, not too power full to wash the car and cleaned the patio steps good too.
Took a bit of time as its not a BLASTER type of jet wash. But good on cars paint work

stay away from the little karcher domestic stuff its rubbish & expensive to repair
people used to bring them in to us & get upset when i told them to throw it in the skip & buy a different one
also dont be fooled by the makers claims of 140-150bar look for a model with the highest water flow rate ie ltrs/min ltrs/hr
as an example an edge wildcat runs at 100bar /12ltrs/min & thats a £2k machine
our highest single phase machine is 130bar 9ltrs/min so as you can see the higher the pressure the lower the water flow
the cheapest cold water model we do is leopard £500 again 100bar 12ltrs/min
these sometimes come up on ebay cheap & are fully rebuildable
hope this helps

This man speaks the truth, its all about ltr/hour.

BAR means nothing on domestic machines, its like BHP pub talk

I wish i kept my old car wash ones, although they needed to be bolted down onto something sturdy as they had a bit of a kick to them

Ended up with one from B&Q, identical to the Nilfisk ones, except blue, instead of Nilfisk colours.

All metal construction, it's been pretty good.

Halfords ones looked OK, but they weren't on offer when I bought.

Mine is an all-metal construction, with a patio cleaner free and cost only £70
