Spec C, D or JDM?

Just to put this in to context....
Steve made the point.... it depends what you want to do with the car and what kind of car you are after. So hence my "bollocks" statement, meaning it's not as conclusive as saying "it's the best". Before I start upsetting people.
Immy,
70kgs makes a huge difference!?..... a difference yes, but HUGE.... come on stop playing games.
Remember I do have a "little" bit of experience with a Spec C and the STI.

The spec c model was built for homologation purposes for the WRC cars, and the last thing you would want on a rally car would be a sun roof, but to get air in the car without having to open the windows they have roof vents to do the job.

It boils down to each individuals requirements however we cannot take away the fact that the spec c is a better car like for like in any instance I.e stage 1,2 and 3. Will this performance be noticed in the real world yes I would bloody well hope so.
I always recommend a JDM STI to people if they don't have any intention of tracking their cars otherwise they will never get the full potential out of their car and might as well go for the standard STI.
Shaun I know you have a wealth of experience with these cars in fact probably a lot more than me opinions will always differ ,but facts are facts and all of your projects are based on facts which you have had firsthand experience.
Surely this is a no brainer

Immy agree like for like in standard form or as you say stage 1, 2 then yeah the spec c would be the better option but a standard spec c against a modded jdm sti with 4k chucked at it then you still think thr spec c is the wiser choice, personally I think not, also on a day today basis I would say the jdm sti would be the one to go for again.
If the op wants to hit the track every weekend then fine a spec c but for me the jdm sti would be better suited for the op

Every Subaru needs some money chucking at it to make it how you want it, don't care what you say about the spec C it would still need the basic mods track or otherwise ! So buy the best base car you can in your budget tbh You would have to be a real ***** not to run a Spec C type set up everyday IMHO, it's not that raw ! If you need a daily runner there are far better more capable cars out there than Subaru's. My Spec D is stiffer than Keith Lemon on a Viagra overdose and I'd still drive it everyday.
All this is nonsense though, you should keep the wagon and make it in to £12k's worth of epic'ness

Using a spec c everyday is possible, i swear the seats are more comfortable in it than my old uk car even though they look the same, and the suspension while it does feel a bit harder than my old uk car, it's not uncomfortable if the road surface is ok. What i do notice and what would put me off everyday usage is the lack of sound deadening, exhaust noise, road noise, they really add up. The number of times i've had some tunes on, got out of the car only to come back later and deafen myself when i start her up must be nearly every drive! Guess i must be a *****
Hence why it's a weekend car only, but that's when it comes alive and all of the above just adds to the experience.
As for the roof vent, on a sunny day like today, it's a god send! Cools you in a matter of seconds.

Sorry tx, but spend 12k on a.decent std spec c or 8k on a jdm and spend
4k molding it and you think the spec c will be better....... Come on. The spec c's oil coolers and 70kg saving won't save it on a track with a jdm with more power, suspension upgrades and a roof flap lol
Spec c's are the nuts out of the box but starting modding and it all goes out the window other then knowing you are driving a spec c.
All imo of course

Immy,
But this is THE point though.... the Spec C isn't THE best. It is one of the best for outright performance and chassis set-up, but that comes at a price. That "price" is not to everyones liking. Ergo... it isn't THE best for everyone. That would be arrogant to suggest that, as not everyone is looking for what a potential Spec C owner is. There are other things that make a car the best to some and it is alot to do with personal needs and use.
That IS what I am saying.
Also there is nothing wrong with "tracking" a STI. It may not be as "sharp" as a Spec C (like for like), but they sure for **** aint that far apart. You would have to be a "good" driver imo to get the benefit out of a Spec C over and above a STI. Even then there wouldnt be much in them against the clock.
53WRX,
Again... you might find the Spec C "comfort" acceptable, but many would not. It's a personal thing. MeltypeR took my STI out the other week and the first thing he said within 20 metres down the road "Christ... I can't believe how quiet this is compared to mine". It is noticeable..... very noticeable. For some that may not be a problem, but for others it is. Horses for courses chap.
Tony,
You can take a STI straight to track..... the Spec C isn't a race prepped car you know! lol I had to spend £20+k on mine to get it anywhere near that! Anyway... most people on here don't even go near any competitive stages that own Spec C's.... so what's the point in all that.
Owning a Spec C is more about the "bits"..... it is about it being a Spec C period, which I can certainly relate to. No point in justifying anything else.
