Thanks For The Offer, Subaru UK .... but

Nice Tsukuba vid Mantazini, I guess at £55K and just pipping the STI is justified, I mean £22K sounds right to have better quality plastics with the odd bit of carbon fibre and brushed alluminum, yeah definately good value!
Thats said they are nice, quite nice looking and very comfortable but having had bad experiences with BMw id have the RS4, I like the fact that Audi has a good rally history from which its Quattro came, BMW..... has track pedigree but they loose frequently on the road in the severe wet or snow and not just on rounabouts.

You lot on here are where I was 12 months ago ... hating Diesels and on my way to buy a Scooby STi ...... I was educated, blown away, shocked, that cars could be bought for £10,000 less AND be better cars, cheaper, quality .... pleasure didn't mean you had to drive a tacky plastic plantpot to enjoy yourself on the roads.
OH, yes, the 1.4 Type S is pants performance wise!! The 2.2 Diesel is a completely different animal.

Do you know, I'm not sure what baffles me more:
a) That you genuinely seem to believe your diesel has storming performance
or
b) That I don't seem to be able to resist rising to your bait!
Dammit...

Animal..... maybe..... I've got 420 NM and its not enough for me
And im not hating diesel cars, their excellent, if u get a goodone its going to be comfy, cheap to run etc... But it will never change the thrill, sound, smell of a good perfomance car Pete. Like i said u can not go with your car to a track day , can you? It just wont handle it, as its not been made for that. I think we'll never set up on that one , but its all good.... we all have to be different , it would be very boring otherweis.

Speaking of Hondas....the DC2 is a good motor for a FWD.

I wouldn't - and neither should anyone else IMO.
My car delivers plenty of smiles - in it's performance AND when I look down at the computer telling me I am getting 55 mpg!!!

340Nm of Torque comes on tap at 2000 RPM - instant in other words!! And it holds that peak torque until 4000 RPM ...... at which point most skilled drivers manage to change gear, the revs drop to 2200 RPM and that 340Nm of power pulls all over again to 4000 RPM - repeat until the Scooby is a spec. in the rear view!!

The only virtue of your diesel is the low down torque so probably no need to downshift to overtake when street driving etc....not that you probably could anyway without red-lining the engine.
I know you know this cr@p anyway....given your 'vast experience' and are just trolling.

Forget all this garbage about pslewis being a master fisherman whose sole intention is to spout tripe in order to trap the unsuspecting into a response. What we are witnessing are the delusional rantings of a forumite who has dropped a massive clanger and has suddenly realised that he has bought the wrong car but is unable to admit it. I recall many a thread initiated by this man in which the theme was that he would love to buy an Impreza hatch but wait for it, the major drawback was that he couldn't get his dog in the back. There was never a mention of tacky trim, too many plastics or poor mpg, no there was insufficient room for his dog.
At the time, he could have had a WRX-S for £19k, a car which has 40 lbsft more torque and nearly twice the BHP of his beloved diesel, a car which would blow him into the weeds in any situation. Or he could have spent £26k on an STi hatch on which Subaru were giving free PPP remap and exhaust along with 18" 5 spoke alloys giving him a car with 100 lbs ft more than his 'oh so torquey Impreza bashing' Honda. Sorry Mr Lewis but you are the laughing stock of the forum.

That's madness - it would be much, much, much, cheaper to hire a track car on a track day - then climb into your road car of comfort and value to drive home in!!

The WRX-S looked just like all the other Impreza's in the range - it needed the looks of the STi to be worth £19,999. It also wasn't 'planted' on the road like my old clssic was.
If Subaru's only issue was that the dog it could hold was a grannies lapdog, and no bigger, then it would be selling thousands of the things - it isn't .... so, something else is wrong - something BIG.

Just now I have opened my mail .... what do I see?
Yes, a flyer from Subaru - telling me all about the new Special Edition 320R!!! WOWIE!!! A Special Edition ....... lot's of talk about the performance figures, indeed the headline states 'The Big Performance'.
They know it is a one trick pony.
They also know something else too - what single thing was missing from the blurb? Correct!! The PRICE!!! They know it's silly money and are too embarrassed to state it!
I remember the time when the price was splashed all over Subaru adverts, it was the thing which made it all add up - it made the Impreza a two trick pony.
Now that the price is up there with serious well built quality cars, the buyers have moved on.

Unlike most performance cars, the new special edition WRX STI 320R has an 20PS more power than a standard WRX STI and also comes with sat nav as standard. And, unlike other special editions, there's no extra cost compared with a standard WRX STI. There's even the option of a practical performance 5-door hatchback as well as a 4-door saloon.
* Low mounted, Boxer Turbo engine producing 320PS (20PS more power than standard WRX STI)
* Improved torque and driveability
* 0-60 mph in less than 5 seconds
* Touch screen sat nav with Bluetooth for added convenience
* Japanese spec.C suspension for greater handling and cornering
* Permanent Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive for better balance, power, stability and grip, in all weathers
* Choice of 5-door hatchback or 4-door saloon for added practicality
Now it has everything you want Lewis
