The biggest transformation on my car was when I had coilovers installed, I found the car a bit bouncy and high but with new suspension it was lovely

I'd also recommend, Blitz Nur Spec R exhaust, and a ecutek remap.

Excited for you mate.

Got my eyes on the Blitz Nur Spec R! Love the sound of it, what coilovers did you get? Tein?

I was actually surprised at the price of the exhausts, a lot cheaper coming from bikes! the Akrapovic exhaust system for my last R1 cost new £1562 (got it for £850 luckily) its a breath of fresh air! Can get a 2 piece Blitz Nur Spec R for £425.00....Awesome..

Wallace performance is 100 miles from me so I could use them for a lot of the ECU work, although Andy Forrest is also nearish and judging by his rep id be better using him!

Yep...im excited..still got an ounce of worry at the back of my mind about the ringland failures though ...

I'm contradicting what I said in my earlier post, but if you are worried about the 2.5 that much perhaps you are better off waiting until you find a 2.0ltr that catches your eye. There are absolutely loads of them out there and with 14.5K in your back burner you'll have the pick of the bunch.

You would get a beautiful Spec C for less. Personally I reckon you could use it as an every day car.

My STI is used most days and when I eventually pick up a spec c or type 25 it will be my daily drive.

Don't forget that presently its a buyer's market so you really do have the ball in your court.

Im one of those naturally worrying types though mate! inherited down the genes!

Spec C's seem sweet, but I need a car in the next 2 weeks! some people have had to wait for 6 months to find a good one so I hear, plus this has only 19k miles on it?

I know what you mean about worrying tho.

You will find that many on here will agree that worry soon turns to paranoia when you own a scooby.

19k is good tho. You can never be totally sure of anything mechanical so if it seems to tick all the neccessary boxes and brings your anxiety down as far a possible perhaps its the one for you. Good luck either way.

Aye, well from what ive seen the majority of the failures seem to be upto the 12k mark, the statistics of failure seem to lower after that? Maybe im just trying to make myself feel better!

Hey...If it all does go **** up ill just go the forged route, ill probably go that way before/if it fails anyway..I love modding stuff!

Looks good. 232 wheel horsepower is very healthy for a stock motor. Now you just need a remap I recently went on Surrey Rolling Road (local dyno near me) and with just a back box (Prodrive), and one cat (as the PPP removes 2nd cat) plus custom remap from Race Dynamix, achieved 257 wheel horsepower, equating to 326bhp at the fly and 351 lbs.ft torque. You really notice the difference, especially the torque (one thing the 2.5 is very good at achieving). If I remove the remaining rear cat and further remap I can see that go up by another 20bhp. Can't believe how expensive your bike exhausts are which are a quarter the size !!

Yes, I plan to remap at Andy Forrest, he is down the road by about 140 odd miles, worth it me thinks!

Im thinking of getting a Blitz Nur Spec R and a sports cat + Panel filter, I dont wanna go too overboard with mods as it will be an everyday driver! 320-340 I will be very happy with!

Bike exhaust prices are nutz. Period. So im delighted with the price of Scooby exhausts!!

I'm sure you'll love it... but... when I picked up my hawkeye after the initial excitement wore off I honestly wasn't blown away with it.

BUT THEN After the exhaust (with sports cat), panel filter, and a remap it's honestly felt like a new car, it just feels 'right' with the remap much more responsive much less lag.

You're in for a great journey mate, I'd look into the Nur Spec RX too, I've heard the R is hardcore and a little too much for long journeys, but at the end of the day you could get it and sell it if you're not getting along with it!

The biggest lesson I learnt was don't go for lowering springs, I bought Teins and within a month I need to replace my rear shocks, at least that was a good excuse to get Tein Mono Flex...

It's a slippery expensive slope when you start modding these cars I found, upgrade one thing, and something else needs it, but it's bloody enjoyable!

Have a safe trip home and get some pictures up ASAP

(Just noticed I recommended the Spec R in an earlier post, sorry I meant the RX, thats the exhaust I had, it's a quieter version on the R, chilled at low speed mental when you're on the gas).

Most 2007 hawkeye STI Type UK's were £15k or over from dealers. It seriously goes like stink. I have been speaking to a couple of well recommended mappers and they say the 2.5l engine is rock solid as long as it is checked over (which you are doing anyway) by a specialist/mapper (so a mapping session is in order - I'm booked to have one this Monday), to ensure everything is running ok, detonation/pinking free etc, boost is safe, well looked after, ie serviced correctly, and it is good for up to 380bhp reliably (although this is right on the top limit really - 350bhp is the norm people upgrade to) with supporting mods before internal engine component mods are required (this is from the experts not me ).

The only issue I have read about is head gasket issues, but although clearly more prevelant on the 2.5l than the 2.0l, you will only hear of the bad cases, so will always appear more common than they actually are, but even so, if the worst does happen you can use it as an excuse to fit forged pistons, uprate the "ringlands" and other bits, plus fit uprated head bolts to prevent the head gasket going again, all at the same time for relatively little extra labour cost (as it is relatively easy to do on the Subaru lump when doing the head gasket compared to some other cars) and if you have a friend who can do this then thats a bonus.

You'll love your car! I do and it turns heads many places (it is a car which definitely stands out), and the speed is just addictive! Just make sure you drive it below 3500 rpm for at least 10mins before driving hard, so as to warm it up.

The stock Bridgestone RE070 Potenza (they look like semi-slicks lol on the outside) are about £120, more at other places but my local does them for that. However they are soft compound so will wear quickly and come the winter you may be better of changing to something like Vredestein Sessantas (I'm going to do this), which are a bit cheaper but highly recommended on here and other high performance cars (350z, Corvettes etc) and last double the time, and are good in dry and wet (better in wet than the RE070).

I'm still learning all the time.

Hope this all helps.

Good tyre advice mate, il be taking note of them myself!

cheers!

Cool! RX it is... I was actually thinking that the Spec R would be a bit too loud, I live in quite a respectable area with newborn kids/professionals so hearing me roaring up the street or starting up at 5am would be a tad unsavoury! Spec RX would be fine.

Im probs gonna keep the mods light for now, are panel filters the best to go for? one of my buds told me they were for Scoobs...

Exhaust/Filter/BOV/Timer/Remap.. ill get it all done at Andy Forrests hopefully. Wonder what sort of figures ill be pushing with that? 296.5 at the moment..320?

I had the Nur Spec RX

http://www.blitz-uk.co.uk/Product-11.aspx

A K&N panel filter (I would recommend a cosworth one now though as they are oil free), and a remap at Powerstation and had either 340bhp or 360bhp can't remember, think I have the readout somewhere at home though.

Yeah just the catback, I didn't do a dyno before the mods so don't know what the power was, but it was a standard car. I expect you'll get the same figures, if it sounds high then it probably was 340bhp my memory isn't what it used to be

Well, Picked up the car on saturday and drove it 450 miles home, pretty delighted to be honest!

Performance is good with its 296 horses, love the way it looks, sounds the business even standard, and comfort.... well I have to say it is one of the comfiest cars ive ever had! I get backache in our 57 Civic type R in just a few hours, this was soo comfy, only bit of me that did get sore was my right ankle as I was just touching the throttle lightly to keep it at a steady speed all the way home...which in turn...cost me £80 in V Power/Ultimate! Thats the same MPG as the Type R Civic also...

Very happy indeed, its effortless to drive and when it gets going it just wants to keep going forever!

Heres the pics as promised

Mate.

Dont understand the first couple of posts about UK car OR EU Import, as its the same car except for underseal and alarm fitted by Subaru UK, loads of posts about it.its out of warranty anyway,

I got my old Hawkeye re mapped by Andy and had full de cat on top, 350 BHP and 400lb Torque, flying machine.

The only weak point if all else looked after would be the suspension set up. there is a large Scooby community in scotland, check out the SIDC site and follow link for scottish scoobies.

Enjoy

Cool thanks for the info Bluenose, being new to Scooby ownership I was referring to the model type that the dealers advertised it at.

See when you got the full decat and remap, what did you do come MOT day? put the cat section back in and replace when its over?

Ill check out the SIDC Scottish site cheers

What's difficult to understand?

Type UK does make a difference on price, at least it did a few years ago when I bought mine.

I was only sharing my experience of buying a car advertised as UK, when infact it was an Maltese import, at that time Subaru were being tricky with warranties. I had to get a letter from Subaru head office, to give to my local Subaru dealer saying that Subaru would honour my warranty.

The guy asked for advice, sorry to confuse you...

I am not confused mate,i know my models and the differences with each model, and would not have bought a car that was not AS ADVERTISED!!!! you should have refused the car if it bothered you that much and they are usually cheaper by about 1k on a 3 year old car.

Back on topic!

I had a MOT friendly garage do the MOT as i got all my servicing work done there anyway, although i know Nobles in edinburgh used to give you a loan of a cat section for a small fee on top of your MOT.

Enjoy and if you get it re mapped i recommended some gauges as well.

Sweet, I was more thinking that because it would then be mapped for a system without a cat then putting a cat on for MOT would cause the fuelling to be out on the emissions?

Im dead happy with the motor so far anyway, its uber, I think a little more power would be awesome though, 330 ish, defo needs suspension upgrades, feels a bit wallowy and loose for me! Comfy though!
