Wifey bit the bullet yesterday - Blackberry Torch 9800

Yeh seems that way - can't decide if it's a gimmick or not.
Wifey's work (and mine) utilise BBs so that might be interesting (although why I/we should be using OUR phones for work stuff, well, that's a different issue!)
Just checking with Vodafone "nerd" at the moment

Just for the record, I've had it confirmed by Vodafone that if you've got the BIS dataplan as part of your package, BBM is "free" around the world.

Are you going to update your question on the Vodafone forum? Can I tell the Lads here that it's OK to turn on roaming data?
http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Black...ht/true#M50015
And how do you enable BBM but not push email?

All to do with your contract specifics basically (as per most other contracts). As a side issue, there's a reply on Crackberry about usage without the roaming tied in , and the bloke used 300 bbms, a few photos and audio clips - only used 1.6meg of data. Not too shabby.
Yeh, I've updated the post (there's loads all over the net right now!). TBH Vodaforums, in my experience so far aren't very good - the expertise seems to come from the users rather than the official contributors. (http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Black.../725097#M49844)
As to how you enable BBM but not push email, I don't know (yet), I can see why it would be useful
No documentation (apart from my contract details), as I spoke to them

However, I still see the BIG issue with BBM being that unless you're using it (ie Blackberry), it's pretty pointless.
But you could argue the same with FaceTime..... and a great many other platform-specific apps.

All good stuff. I just hope everyone uses caution and gets confirmation in writing before using data abroad, I've seen some obscene bills racked up by the innocent.

September by the sounds of it.
I hated the 9800 when I had a go on a family members phone.
Way, way to big and heavy. Good as a weapon though.
I recently went from an 8900 curve which I really liked as a phone/business tool but since moving to the HTC Desire S, I now see what I was missing!

A really nice device, what the 9780 should have been, a premium product with quality feel. Can't tell you any more due to a confidentiality agreement. I'd wait for the 9900 if I were you.

Can only go on what they've told me.
Moot point anyway: all of her Blackberry-owning friends, when asked what their BBM number was, they said,"what's that then?"
NONE of them even use it, and can't be ar$ed to set it up and are sticking to texts
Goes to show, regardless of how much tech is placed in front of the consumer, their own "brick wall" will stop them from using it......
9900 out very soon according to Crackberry. 9810 (Torch 2) will be out after that. Around the same time as iPhone 4s/5.
Me? It's too much effort. Phone contract is being terminated in August - too much hassle: regardless of which way you go, they ALL have faults, and wish-lists of stuff that they should all have.
It seems can can either have (1) good features on **** hardware or (2) ****/limiting features on good hardware. In fact any combo except good features and good hardware.
In MY opinion (which to me is the only one that counts )

Is the wife still happy with her phone. I am thinking of getting the 9300 which is £16.50 a month at O2.
Bearing in mind my present phone is a Nokia 6100.

Absolutely loves it mate. Very impressed. But I don't think it's for everybody though. It is a bit quirky (as they all are) but a very good alternative to the android and apple stuff. The app store is very weak though in comparison.

Did she look at any other Blackberry's, and what swung it for the 9800.
