i've just go this to say

Reyland Escort Cossie-
0-60mph 3.38 secs
0-100mph 8.28
1/4 mile 11.4 secs
top speed 188.6

can you show me a scooby modded in the uk that can beat those times???

i think not

those who said it has no low end power...... errrrrr 0-60 3.38 i think that's plenty of low end power!!!!!

I think you may find that they meant no low end power as in no torque, or at least not much untill 3-4K.

ish,

low end does not mean low speed,

I think you will find 0-60s are done by feeding in the clutch when the car is already in its power band, and each time you change up a gear, the ratios mean the drop keeps it there, so lag doesnt figure.

Lag only comes into in gear acceleration times.

BTW written by JohnS on 22B.com

"The guy who claimed to have 485bhp no longer owns the car (he's got his order in for a 911 turbo which should arrive next year).
The car was prepared for sprint use primarily, but was still used as an everyday road car.

It had full steel internals, massive VF15 turbo (group A rally car spec), full HKS exhaust (it was loud!), and also ran up to 2.0bar boost, but only on the Elf Turbo fuel, which was when the car was recorded as having 460+bhp on a rolling road. After that run, various other mods were performed so I think the 485 was an "estimate", but probably wasn't far off (the car would get wheelspin in 4th gear in the wet!).

Not surprisinglt, the car needed uprated gears, diffs etc to cope with the torque (he still went through several rear diffs per year doing track days and competition evtns).

He did say he ran once at Santa Pod back in 1998 or 1999, when his car was "only" around 400bhp, and I think he got somewhere around 11.4 or 11.5 seconds at 125mph. The launches were very hard on the drivetrain though. He also had very uprated suspension (magnesium lower arms, and Proflex/Ohlins suspension at £1k per corner which he kept breaking!).

Most of the work was carried out by KBM in Glasgow, and they might now own the car (long story), though the car was de-tuned considerably to about 360bhp before it was sold, as the power delivery was considered a bit brutal (almost vertical power graph from 4,000rpm to 8,000!).

The car certainly existed, as I had many pasenger laps in it around Knockhill (mostly sideways!), though it was always run at lower boost for extended track use (about 1.3 bar), with the high boost reserved for competition.

I think his best time around Knockhill in competition spec., on slicks and using all the kerbs, was about 57 - 58 seconds. BTCC pole that year was about 53 - 54 seconds, and a standard 22B/P1 would lap around 63 - 64 seconds.

If you wanted the full spec, then I'd suggest giving KBM in Hillington a call

John"

..........I thank you.

Adam

sorry mates but it makes no sense to compare hugely modified cars ! you can take the body of a cossie and put a ferrari's engine on it but then what does it mean?
Let's compare the two standard cars which is the best?

The cossie 2wd is a fun car as i know. 260 BHP on the rear wheels is a bit testing. The 4wd one is like driving a fast taxi. The scooby is a fast and fun car.I think the scooby is a better car all round.
I want one. but cant have.

11.8@115..that's an excellent time. Was the car previously modified before you spent a grand on it or do you just run stupid boost on the day?

Car was standard when bought. Ran 23 psi boost on 1/4 mile and on road. Water injection keeps it in check. Just dyno'd at 349 bhp 343 lb torque, the lightweight RA at 1200 kilos just doesn't need silly BHP to go fast.
No turbo lag either unlike an Escort over 300 lb torque from 3300 rpm

Anyone considered the posibilities offere by a south african V8 Sierra with 4x4 drivetrain? A little work on one of those should see off any 2-litre gubbins that turns up.

How much water does the reservoir hold, what boost does it activate at and how long does it last?Is it a problem on the road as the water could quickly run out or can you turn the boost down in the car?

Res holds about 4 ltrs. Lasts longer than a tank of fuel
so I check it when I fuel up. It triggers at 15 psi+
If the W/inj does not make full pressure the boost is dropped by 5 psi and a warning lamp comes on.

There both great motor's and both go like stink for the cash, and both will beat anything bar another rally rep or the most expensive exotica !

What's the deal, i would love to own both !!

Why does one have to be better than the other ?

Adam,

Stop being such a nobber!!!!!

US Cossie owners can't win can we.....you put us down if we don't have a proper comparator, you put us down if we do. As regards to the Reyland Cossie, that is the one that has proven TIME & TIME again ........... I'm hardly gonna use one that has not proven itself am I!!

I find it very hard to believe that a Scooby with 350bhp (that was 70bhp increase for 1k!!!! ), can achieve that kind of time. Sorry for not being as gullable as you obviously are, by not questioning such a statement being made.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.......but I do like to see things for my own eyes!

Regards,
Shaun.
