Adam,
Depends on what your interpretation of "nobber" means. I'm sure I could prove it either way in court!! "In my opinion" of course.

I only need ONE string to my bow.....shall I tell you again, incase you mis-read it before???

Regards,
Shaun.

There isn't a Scoob in the UK at the moment that can match Martin Hadlands car. Not talking about performance but in general overall reliability too - the CCC gearbox issue notwithstanding (journalist bust it)

At the same time, show me a dozen Cossies like for like, which are good comparisons to Martins.

Sure, there are many that make good power, but how many can do it as reliably? Not many.......

Martins car is the exception, not the rule. If it were the rule there would be a whole host of Cossies able to match what he's done.

Your typical RS tyre polisher who only brings the car out when it's not raining doesn't count either

thanks for that craig.

martins car from what steve hjas told me is awesome, but it seems to be the only that crops up as being any good.

I was under the impression that there were many 400+ reliable cosworths out there.

looks like I was misled!

Shaun,

If you persist in thinking you can prove I am a nobber, you will need a legal definition, since there isnt one, you are just adding more evidence to my libel action against you.

After this weekend i have to say it is down to personal choice> However unfortunatly 1 escort cossie ended up in the armco yet no scoobs where on a track like the ring it has nothing to do with power, but experiance if you dont believe me ask martin what came passed him he doesnt believe it himself but martin was overtaken by a scoob sport 115 bhp driven by john felstead from then on martin plus the rayland sierra followed by me kept with him. Up until then we wher holding the sport up in a straight line either reyland car is EFFING quick i know i tried no competition> What a blast though cant wait for next time.

There will always be someone with a faster more powerfull car than the next person it is all down to how much you want to spend.

So in conclusion having competed against both vehicles this weekend driver skill will win hands down on twisties however on a straight power will win every time however power costs money the power the money. Also the power the more chance for unreliabilaty which i know was a prob for one of the reyland cars this weekend

By the way i am not slating the reyland cars or the guys with them they are top blokes along with a major amount of the cossie owners and a mojority of scoob owners.

Lets just stop bragging about it and enjoy each others cars for what they are our Pride nad Joys
Rant mode off

By the way i run a 98 wagon

I have to say, this has not been a scoob versus cossie argument for a good number of posts.

I was using as an excuse to exchange blows with shaun but purely for fun.

I dont think there is any question of the mutual respect on here for other marques.

I thougth everyone knew that I was a big evo fan, yet i ams till here, sticking by my trusty sti 4.

I think that people use the Reyland Cossie as an example because most people have heard of it and know it exists. If people started quoting figures for Joe Bloggs and his 450bhp car, most of us wouldn't know who they were on about and probably wouldn't believe it.

Adam,
"I was using as an excuse to exchange blows with shaun but purely for fun."

Speak for yourself!!!!

Tis true it is all banter (mostly). For christ sakes I used to own a WRX, which was quite nippy. It's horses for courses, and alot is down to personal preference.........but a good slagging every now and then, keeps the embers burning!!!

Shaun.

For those non believers out there -

On the same day there were 2 x 400bhp cossies running 12.1 best. One of them was a totaly stripped out race car.

We also have a guy with a Redland replica engine, built by same person apparently, (over £10k worth)
T4, 8 greens, RS500 I/C etc with a claimed 500 bhp. It is a fully trimmed street car (like mine) and it ran 11.9 @ 118.
The guy claimed he was running conservative boost (28psi) and that it should run 34 psi.
Certainly more power than my scoob but it's a pig to drive and difficult to launch fast. My times are fairly consistant, his were all over the place.

Shaun,

I am always playing.

I could never say I am anti ford, they are my biggest client (including cosworth) and have been putting food on my family's table for 20 years.

Along with the 22B, and ferrari 355, the RS200 sits as my ultimate dream cars tat I will, one day own.

So dont interpret banter as anti cossie talk.

PMSL - do you believe everything that is written in these mags

Round 1 to Shaun I believe

btw jonny gob have a 500+ bhp RS500 too!!!! Never blown a gasket either or the Esc Cos........

I can second that

Jonny,

Considering ALL of the mentioned cars have been ENGINE BENCH DYNO TESTED to prove there power figures!!!!! In fact all of the mentioned cars have had to be live mapped on an engine dyno. Forget you questimate rolling road figures!!!

Plus they have all been based on Cosworth Touring car spec engines.

The Reyland Cossie was put on Nobles Sun Ram 4WD rolling road, a few months ago. I was there and saw the Reyland Cossie hit 515bhp!!!! (Which is awesome, by anyones standards!) Thats the highest figure I have ACTUALLY seen with my own eyes. If you actually realised what you were saying, you would also realise that to propel an Escort Cosworth body shell to 188mph you would need slightly more than 50bhp, as it has the streamline ability of a brick!!!

NEXT!!!!

Regards,
Shaun.

I can second that

how long do you think that will last then?

i would give it 50 miles at the most!

they didn`t rebuild the rs500 engines after every race for nothing.

totaly unusable too, all the power is at the top end, nothing under 4500rpm
what a waste of money after all its still an escort!!!

the tuners must be laughing all the way to the bank

[Edited by jonny gav - 4/30/2002 10:01:32 PM]

i have been to alot of events with Martin Hadland top speed runs ect, ect, and can comfirm that he has never done serious damage to his engine any time

"Shaun- cosworths rule! whats that all about?
there is only one cosworth rule - 'they blow headgaskets'"

Perhaps when you see in person a 515bhp Escort Cossie, either rip it's way around a track OR rip it's way from 0-60 and then onto 1/4 OR rip it's way to a record beating 188 odd MPH, THEN you will realise what is meant by that remark!!! I won't even mention the fact, this car has also beaten the record of towing a caravan at over 125mph......whooops I already have.

The only Cossies that blow headgaskets are by owners that a)Know it is going to happen and don't give a ****, b)By cars that have been set-up on a budget or c)Cars that have been modified by gimps. The above mentioned 500+bhp Escort, has never blown a WRC headgasket.

One thing that makes me question certain claims about these Scoobies, is how come ALL these supposed high power ones are ALWAYS in a different country??!!

NEXT!!!!

Regards,
Shaun.

I can second that

Funny how it keeps going for all these performance runs he keeps doing at Bruntingthorpe. He has never had a major engine problem, that I am aware of....... and yes he does use the car regulary as a proper running vehicle. He never turns up anywhere on a trailer and NEVER leaves on one.

Tell me why you think race cars are re-built, you may find it has something to do with the fact that they constantly live around the 8.5k band all the time. If you wanna do that on the roads, then I wasn't aware that the speed limit had been raised, OVER 2 TIMES!!!!!

He runs power and boost you could only dream of!!!!

Regards,
Shaun.

I can second that

R19KET,
That is indeed alot of power loss through the tranny, but then the tranmission side of the Reyland (box, drive shafts, diffs etc) is somewhat "Heavy Duty". And the amount of heat it must produce, has to be immense......would be interesting to see what the figures would be, if there was better cooling.

I think you have hit the nail on the head, regarding the Skyline comparison. But I suppose the arguments will continue......

Regards,
Shaun.

Martin Hadland also had a 500+ bhp Skylineall the top bits from HKS......and this was his own words " the 500+bhp Skyline was not faster than a 330 bhp cosie...if you evre see the man him self ask him about the skyline .and he will tell you about it thats why he sold it ...nuff said

P.s i own a 400+ bhp snail as well

Mike

During my last few months with the car I was running a GEMS fully mappable ECU - only reason it never got mapped correctly was due to the fuel regulator being shagged, then after me getting it sorted I knew I was selling anyway so there was no point getting it refined.

Shame though, cos it would've been good

Graig it the fastest Scoob that i had ever been in m8....and a proper one aswell

gossy, nice to meet you at the ring you seem to be a top bloke. I have a couple of comments to make though, j f in his non turbo imprezza didnt get past me, i pulled over and let him past, i was on my first lap of the ring!. unless you know something that i dont, both Reyland cossies were trouble free all weekend, the sierra did suffer with some brake judder but that didnt spoil thier fun.

not directed at gossy this, there seems to be a lot of cack written on the rs bb about scoobs and vise versa but the truth of it is at the ring everyone got on just fine.

Cosie Convert,
IF those figures are pucka, I stand corrected ...... still not sure about the 1k for 70bhp though The chap you are on about, does indeed have the Reyland Version 1 engine. It was first put in a Mondeo, that set the first top speed record a few years back. While in the 3dr (which it is in now), he set the top speed record at Brunters for a 3dr (183mph I think).

Scooby_killer,
Have you fixed the snail yet???

Marco,

lol

I spoke to Dingy about it on Saturday, so we will have to try and organise something after the Summer, either at Nobles or Powerstation (Cheltenham).

I wouldn't mind the higher powered Scoobs/Evo's making an appearance.

If nothing else, it's gives both parties a chance to get together, to see the best of both worlds.

Shaun.

Are you talking about an Esc Cos being difficult to launch and a pig to drive or a 3dr/RS500/sapph/2wd/4wd or what. Cant see that you can say that Esc Cos or 4 x 4 are difficult to launch or pigs to drive!!!

I believe the chap was going to put the engine in his Escort Cossie, but as far as I know it is still in his black rwd 3dr (so hence the comments made I suppose).
