scoobs are quicker for one reason gearing, not because of anything else, plus scoobs aren't reliable.

vectra,

I have never heard so much shat in my life..... 300 bhp in a vectra.... point (1) a vectra weights more than a normal sccob let alone a 22b or a p1, point (2) a vectra is 2 wheel drive... common sense says less traction..!! point (3) they are a reps car.... need i say more...

One way to settle this is to get your mate in his rep mobeal to santa pod... against a 22b or a p1 or infact a normal scoob..

A bit of maths for you.... using kerb weight

a vectra GSI with only a 2.5 engine weights 1423kg (1.423ton)

So if your vectra weights 1423kg and has 300bhp the bhp/ton = 210

Take a standard p1 which weights just 1295kg and has 280bhp.. bhp/ton = 216 unmodified..!!!

And add this to 4 wheels drive... and you get a 0-60 time of 4.6 seconds (p1) something no vectra can do.... if it can get it to pod i wold love to see it...

vectra,

How much have you spent on your vectra... for all that money i could have had a 2.2 stroker kit on mine and push out alot more than 300bhp....

How can you say scoobys dont have much tuning potential when they do 0-60 in 5 secs out of the factory.... its not just about bhp its about traction, power delivery and gearing....

Vectra

I think you've missed the point of the impreza. Its £16-£30k New with warranty etc, secondhand from £5k and a standard impreza turbo out of the box is excellent VFM with great performance & handling as standard.

The engine responds very well to 'low cost' modification (though not better than a cossie). If you look at Rich Wild's (Which I believe is on Telly this weekend) car he has 319BHP from a Car which has 208bhp as standard with only £1.5k expenditure on performance enhancing modifications (this is by no means a rule for imprezas, normally that sort of power for such little cost is easier achieved with a 280bhp model)... I don't doubt that a race prepared Vectra is quick, but I would doubt it makes a very good road car, but then your not comparing similar cars are you? I'm genuinely interested to hear about your car, but not in the context of you saying its better than my car... Don't be a *****, give us more details and some pictures in the 'other marques' forum instead!

Cheers

2.2 stroker kits make more torque, not much more than 350 bhp.

Yep agreed, but it all comes down to what you want from a car too... As I'm sure you've advertised Tony Rigoli in Oz has built an impreza with over 500 bhp at the wheels, I'm not saying its a road car, but it shows what can be done with lots of boost Some of his 400+bhp cars I believe are daily drivers too, which is nice

Vectra,

Erm out of interest, as you've spent so much money on the car, why did you use a Unichip piggyback ECU instead of a complete replacement ECU (eg Motec etc), surely this would give you more control?

I own a 550Bhp Escort Cossie. Like I say time and time again, the scooby is a sorted car, even my tuner who does mainly cossies says they are the best handling car on the road. 4WD cossie running over 400Bhp does have unreleible transmision unless mega cash is spent, ask my wallet!!LOL

What I would like to see is a Scooby running a cossie engine or even a Mist Evo for that matter. Get the best of everything then, superb engine and a superb chassis!!

Cheers,

Dan

My mates vectra has a 0 to 100 time of 11 secs and bangs out over 300 bhp with a naturally aspirated 3.0 lump and will blow a P1, 22B in a straight line. Like it or lump it. Even my Vectra ST200 is faster than the new shape Scooby in standard trim. I couldnt believe how slow they are even a BMW 328i is quicker how sad is that.
OK so your mates got a 300BHP vectra and you've got one of those, one of ST200 Vectra's that no one has heard of!

Graham My cars Spec includes the following
Engine
3.0 V6 with revised cams, flowed cylinder head, enlarged throttle body and flowed inlets, BTB balanced exhaust system (this cost more than your car) Unichip, balanced bottom end, reworked air intake uprated fuel pump and swirl pot. putting out just over 300 bhp.
Wait stop the press! You've bought your mates car, what have you done with your Vectra ST200. I'd very interested to find out!

Bluenose-you just beat me to that point.Vectra are you the same person who was posting on here a few weeks ago making reference to the st200?If so,you seem a little more aggressive than last time.Where was the 0-100 timed and by what equipment?I would be very interested to know as this would be an excellent time for such a heavy car with front wheel drive.

There was a Vectra ST200 (Supertouring), in fact there's been quite a few limited edition tweaked Vectra's

Check here for more info, if you get a Page Not Found error then just hit refresh like I did and it seems to load fine second time around!

http://www.astra-gsi.co.uk/rare_vectra.htm

Incidentally, comparing the Escort Cosworth to the Scoob is a tad unfair I think. The Escort was a handbuilt, homologated Group A rally car. I think the only thing it shared with a road going Escort was the doors, every other panel was different. They were built at Karhmann(sp?) in Germany. It's ancestor, the Sierra RS500, was a highly successful BTCC car (IIRC, came with a huge T4 turbo and 8 injectors as standard but only 4 were plumbed in on the road).

To me, the Impreza and the Evo are designed to be used as daily driving rally replicas, albeit high performance ones! That's in no way meant to discredit either the Scooby or the Evo, I just think they are designed and produced with a different goal in mind.

I think most true enthusiasts of cars in general can recognise and appreciate a fine piece of machinery regardless of badge or peak BHP. If it does the business for you, that's all that matters.

YC,

I suspect that 600bhp, and fuel economy don't go together too well.

Your 0-60 time is good, but I would have expected the 0-100 to be quicker.

If you're not just quoting figures as a joke, can you let us have a bit more info on your car.

Mark.

Oh and why the **** do you even visit these forums ? are you just looking for threads that you can hijack and spout b0llocks on ?

Your probably well known on most manufacturers forums, trying to preach how great Vauxhalls are and how leet your st200 is, well were only interested in friendly banter with people that dont ram their cars down our throats, we like most cars, what we dont like are geeks preaching how great their own cars are and how shat our
Imprezas are.

And as for reliability problems, where have you been regarding the renowned bearing failures of Scoobies????
Thus is true i'm afraid, as mine is garaged with the said above. I have to wait 2 weeks for a recon engine because the fellow rebuilding them has had 5 orders for engines in the last 2 weeks. So don't slag the cossie engine when the impreza engine is as old as the cossie i bet ours will get called unreliable.

Dont worry too much what this vectra fool says.

He has been on another board I go to and over-rates this car of his till its past being a joke including how its a "development special so isnt standard stuff" crap

Till he can provide accurate exmples of its power/speed (Santa Pod 23rd June ?? ) then I dont even waste my time.

I think that this subject will always be the cause of many arguements. But i have to say that some people just do not know what they are talking about especially Vectra who has probably spent so much money on that barge that a 1.4 Nova is probably worth more than that now. If the Vectra 3.0 whatever you call it is soooo fast etc, why has it never been entered in a rally with Scoobs, Evo's etc?? Ile tell you why, because they are reps cars not rally cars. As far as the topic for scooby power goes, ile tell you this much there are a hell of a lot of subarus which are not advertised in Banzai and Jap performance which have way over 500BHP. In fact when i was in Japan 1year ago i spotted a scooby with 793 BHP. It was a privately owned vehicle that was never advertised. Ok maybe it was not he most practical thing in the world but waht car is when it is highly tuned?
Big respect for all the Cossies, Integrales, Aduis etc as they gave inspiration to companies like Subaru and Mitsubishi to build what we enjoy driving today.

Just like to say you can't beat the boxer engine sounds wicked and revs like a motorbike engine.

Also the scoobs 4 wheel drive system is something else on a dry road you have to be a complete prat to lose control

A road test review I saw of an impreza back in mid 90's said that impreza does nothing outstanding but as a complete package its a great piece of kit. I think thats the point its good straight out of the box. I love the comparsions about I have modified this car which is standard form is slower than an impreza and it will now destroy an standard impreza turbo.

Okay fair enough but unless you see a brand new car what percentage are still standard ?? At the "big one" recently most of the cars there had been modified in some way and the ones that hadnt the owners were asking about mods. I spoke to a couple of guys who had just had just brought imprezas and were looking to modify them (exhaust, filters, brakes etc).

I wonder what the % of Vectra/Mondeo/Astra/Focus etc owners have performance upgrades compared to the % of impreza owners.

cheers

chrisp
