escort cossie sold at auctions near me <£1500... was going to bid on it but was a day late... doh.. apparently it was a bit rough.. but still at that price!

n e 1 seen at full throttle by jeremy clarkson.?
he takes 10 of the best cossies and only gets a dead heat with a pretty standard sti.......hmmmmmmmmmm
cossies are good, that there ius no deniying but the amount of money spent on them just to get them to push 300bhp when the sti only needs a hks filter
plus the 4 wheel drive on the cossie is dire, and ford admit it...
maybe the aerodynamic focus cossie will be good!!

I believe the black cossy used in the "Full Throttle" clarkson video belongs to Mark Shead of M.A. Developments, this car is well over 300horse, probably nearer 350. Anyone who knows M.A.D's work will confirm this makes it a quick car, still is that another fair comparsion between 350bhp cossy & 300ish STI 5R?

Rich,
I killed her in an arguement with a roundabout Cat C write off (would take about £15k to put right by all accounts ). She looked after me though (owned her 8 years) and let me walk away without a scratch. I won't ever forget her and bits will live on in other cars....
With regard to Mark Sheads Escort it actually has an engine dyno confirmed 400bhp+ BUT was only running OE suspension, whereas that "standard" STi was on full LEDA coilover kit, set up by Scoobysport.... As they say, power is nothing without control. Mark openly admits that had he known a handling course was going to be thrown in, he would have sorted the suspension before the event. But I think you'll also find that the draw was rigged so as not to upset either camp....
It is true about the 'Scorts transmission though, it IS a pile of poo and as soon as I get my insurance money through, I shall be going for Quaife diffs front and rear.
They look so aggressive from the front - like a pit bull! Screams MOVER OVER I'M COMING THROUGH!
LOL

sorry but the cossie has one problem, escort!!!
and before all you ford owners get upset,i have had a cossie,2 escort rs turbos, escort rs 2000, fiesta turbo and an rs1600i so i am not anti-ford.
moved on to a scoob and l have never looked back.
the escort cossy is really a sierra with a mk 5 shell bolted on.
not worth the money if you ask me.
for me the scoob is a better drive!

Mike R,
I'm REALLY sorry to hear about your car......
Re MAD getting his handling sorted to compete with the Scoobs on the twisty bits, maybe one day we'll get someone with a sorted ENGINE to compete with the Cossies, on the STRAIGHT bits !!!!!
NO, I'm not suggesting mine, I wouldn't let a bunch of magazine, or TV journo's anywhere near it, but I'm sure there are plenty of people from SIDC, or Scoobynet who's cars would offer a far better comparison.......
Mark.

WRONG!!!
There was no Escort that could be homologated as a rallycar as it had to have turbo and four wheel drive. So a new variation of the Escort model had to be produced. Ford knew they had a great engine in the YBG that sat in the the Sierra Sapphire, so Ford's master plan was to simply put the engine, drivetrain and suspension of the Sierra Saphire 4wd into a modified and strengthened Escort shell. But, to Ford's dismay, it was simply not possible, so a new chassis and body had to be built specifically for the Escort RS Cosworth. After 400 new parts a new car was born: more than twice as stiff and strong a standard Escort Chassis.

even inside you can see where they have mated the escort dash to the sierra floor pan!
there was nothing wrong with the cossie 4x4,thats why they used all the parts from it.
dont get me wrong,i love cossies but dont think the escort is worth the extra lay out compared with the saff 4x4

Escort Cossies Hand prepared shell - few cars quite rare, hold there value.
Scoobs, common, built by robots, worth about as much as a saff these days.
40k 22b now less than hlf the price
Sierra's and escorts are 2 completly different cars to drive and handling.
Bondy hammered an STi 5 in the wet with a 2wd cossie, most people need to learn to drive before they start

Not wishing to get drawn into a whose is better, BUT.....
If the Escort Cossie is such TOSH, then why is it still very highly rated at rallying in the club and national levels??????
And how come to compete with a relatively cheaply sorted Escort rally car, you have to take a Scooby to massive budget proportions????
Strange one that, considering the Escort is such an outdated wheelbarrow.
RedKop,
This is a proper aggressive Cossie....
Regards,
Shaun.

fcukin hell
YOU LOT still on about this
Listen I will decide it for you!!
Cossie owner keys please
STI 5 owner keys please
One stopwatch
Then time me around the circuit. As I trash the absolute bollocks off of both your motors, leaving you both in tears crumpled lying on the asphalt thinking "WHY, GOD WHY did we start this unforgiving topic"
