I thought Cola's was stage 1, so should be near 260bhp at least - didn't it make something like that at the Fast Ford shoot out?
Could someone please explain how come a Dagenham Dustbin Escort Cosworth of equivalent age and mileage is worth several thousand pounds more than an Imprezza? So much for rally pedigree - must be just because one is "perceived" by the purchasing public to be of significantly more value. Well I suppose there's nowt as queer as folk.

drag strip owes a lot to the driver as do track tests.
you really need a test by tiff to sort this one out!!!
looking at the pics above, is it me or does the saff look like an ex-taxi with bonnet vents
i had one too,not the best looking car are they.
they are fast though.
2 mates still have saffs, they say my scoob looks like a proton with a boby kit!!!!!!

Well it made 243 @ PTS which read high anyway, which makes it pretty standard (got a zorst and filter), no where near 280.
I was there also, saw it with my own eyes.
Plus a stage 1 escort will do a quarter mile almost a second faster than hers does

A fair point, well made. Next time you should run it on collective 'will to win' - there are some 13,000 members on this site, even half that should be enough

Dingy,
Is that a Turbosystems Stage 2, or a n other Stage 2??!!
Stu,
Big Niges car is 350bhp!!! I would be EXTREMELY surprised at that one. In fact i'll give you mine if is. I hope it is, cause that must mean mine is about 380bhp then!!!
Regards,
Shaun.

FYI, Gavin from the Norfolk RS group has my brother driving Cola's cossie against the scoob on video.
I can easily find out the outcome!
One question though.
Why is it that all the RS owners on this post have agreed that the scoob is a lovely car, but lots of scoob owners don't admit the same back?
Hmmmm................
I don't give a to55. The rusty scrapheap that I paid less than a packet of peanuts for still goes like a ******* train

Right got to add my 2p worth about cossie's
Most Cosworth owners agree that the Scooby's and Evo's are excellent cars.
There is only 3 type's of cars i would replace my 400+ 3dr, is an Evo 6 , 22B , or an Escort cossie,
I would first like to point out that the cossie is the cheapest and the easiest engine to tune, for as little as £600 you could have a 330bhp conversion, it's just plug on and play with no engine mods what so ever !!
The handling on a cossie isn't great copaired to a Evo or a Scoob,
which we know, but some of us won't admit to a scoob or an evo owner,
If cossie were that sh!te why do we still use them to race you lot ???,so we are the under dogs agreed !! don't forget make your comments after the Top Ten day we will see how sh!te the Cossie are, after you lot get whopped LOL Just think the axle on a Escort Cossie was designed in 1983 , and some cossie's still manage 0-60 3 secs and to 0-100 in 7.9 sec, and a Masssive 180+ mph.
P.S i don't want to mension the FORD Rs 200 Cosworth Evo do I ......you know that Group B monster

shaun i never know anyone to disagree with someones bhp more then you,now that is a fact!,if i remember right your the person who argues that it cost £1500 to get 330 bhp when everyone else says it only cost £500( saying that most people have had an exhaust and headgasket in place before the conversion)
i know cos i have had it done in the past( now say it wasn't roughly 350 bhp,i was running 26 psi and holding on standard turbo, never known a 330 conversion to be so quick.the turbo lasted a few thousand miles which i though was good as it had loads of play in it before the conversion and the engine is still going strong today)
my 3dr that i have now is only a stage 1 and i can keep up with if not beat any cossy that is up to 330 2wd or 4wd( 4wd is a walk in the park)you have seen the times that dingy posted about karls stage 1 3dr and mine must be on par with his for power and running properly, but your properly get people saying that his dont run on yellow!

Unless I see an Engine Dyno print, I don't believe ANY figures quoted. I know of several "so-called" well known conversions, that have been put on an engine dyno and fell well short of there publisized figures.
I only trust TWO rolling roads in this country - Powerstation & Nobles - (there is another one that is good, but I have never used it) to get a guestimate figure.
Most people like to think there car is producing XYZ power. That's fine, but when 803 conversions using the same boost settings as what they do now, where mapped for 98octane fuel (pre 1999 or when ever it was) where attaining between 340-350bhp, how the hell can they still be producing this power on 97??????? Firstly the drop in octane would have an effect and secondly the maps (by people who knew what they were doing), where re-profiled to allow for the drop in fuel quality.....all of this lost alot of power.
The price of £1500 was for the conversion of a Large Turbo Escort Cossie including fitting AND included an exhaust. If you can get this done for £500 then you know more than the rest of us!!!!
Pectal P8 baby board and Chip - £330
Injectors - £280
3 bar map - £70
-32 Actuator - £70
Replacement K&N Filter - £40
Uprated fuel pump - £200
Fuel Filter - £???
Exhaust - £300-£400
Thats minimum of £1300 WITHOUT fitting & Set-up!!!!!!!!!!!!
If your SOOOO confident that a standard engined 3dr with a standard T3 turbo, peaking at 26psi (holding what though), can produce 350bhp then get down to Nobles next week and prove to the rest of us.
Like I said, if a car on that spec is running 350bhp with 26psi, mine which is an Escy Cossie running 1.9bar peak holding 1.8 on a T34 must be producing **** loads more than that.......which somehow I very much doubt.
What's this about Karls 3dr........I have NEVER said anything about his power/times or the fact of what injectors he runs on???!!!
Regards,
Shaun.

haha, the never ending debate, it just isnt ending!
you can get 330BHP on a sapphire without the need to uprate the fuel pump, the escort cossie needs it though.
to get the best control and overall performance you really need the P8 ECU, the earlier ones were not as controlable.
You HAVE to replace the head gasket if you want your 330BHP to be reliable. That usually ends up costing £1000 by the time you have paid someone to do a PROPER job.
the 97ron issue isnt such a big deal with optimax being available but you are right, droping to 97 did affect the safety margin on the 98 programmed ECU's.
Bigger the turbo the more airflow you can hold without having temperature issues, its not justthe boost that counts, you can get more power with a T34 running lower boost than if you have a T3 with higher boost as it doesnt flow so much. The T3 isnt as good as a T35 or a T34 at airflow/temp but it can produce similar overall power, it's more dependant on ambient temperature though. The T34 is a bit laggy but the T35 is less so.
You need a decent 2 5/8" or 3" system to give a genuine 350BHP, you can get this using a standard panel filter too but the K&N replacement panel filter is best. Fitting a cone filter is a joke, you lose power over a K&N panel.
350BHP Escort Cossies arent that quick, 350BHP 2WD Sapphire cossies are balistic but not as good an alround car, a lot more fun to drive though. It all depends what you want.
A scoob is a much faster car cross country than a Cossie with equaully matched driver skills. Both are fantastic, both are very diferent. Still pondering. Thinking EVO6 now too.

I don't really give a monkeys uncle, what power other peoples cars have got, or mine come to that. But when I have been in conversation with Ahmed, Harvey and Tony (Turbosystems), you get to find out what is possible and what is fiction.
My car was running 310/310 at the last Nobles rolling road day. That was on a well known chip install, and the car was running spot on, peaking at 1.7 bar and holding 1.3/1.4. The BHP figure was within a knats *** of Billabongs Ahmed 330 conversion, but he got better torque because he was running more overboost than me.
Since my car has been custom mapped by Turbosystems, it feels a totally different car. The timing has been advanced, and the boost re-profiled, now hitting 1.9 bar, holding 1.8 till high RPM and then falling back to 1.3/1.4. Even without a rolling road, you would have to appreciate that the figures are going to be quite some bit higher now.
Considering my new boost levels alone, you have to appreciate why I question other peoples estimates of there cars output. When the base figure was 310bhp with 1.6 bar of boost.
I should be attending the Nobles day next week.
Regards,
Shaun.

your so touchy.lol
my car was last set up at harveys and had 235 at the wheels from a stage 1 and thats from 13 psi and holding( it is a complete 4wd engine that was bought new(not rebuilt) from gramae goode(spl) in 95 and has only just done over 22k,and a level6 ecu),the only thing i disagree about is the need for a group a headgasket as the 4wd one is good enough.
and if you read my post properly it does state most people already have the exhaust and headgasket already fitted.
and your right john most 4wd's are a lot slower,it must be down to the driver a bit as i can keep up and if not pass most 2wd's in me stage 1
