Why is that as soon as someone starts talking cosworths they say the gearbox is weak.
If you look at it in a different angle you could say its the engine thats to strong.
I would guess most 200bhp cars would have problem with gearbox at 350+ bhp?
Just my 2 pence...

John Noble..... Any good ??
He has recently started doing Unichips and is doing quite a few a week..... Anyone had theirs mapped there yet as its him or Owen Developments I might have to go to if Storm are unable to.

actually, if you want to get pedantic the gasket to have is the multi layer metalic WRC one. We run 9.4:1 and 3.4BAR boost on our Escort Cosworth Rally car with that setup. LOL
The escort cossie head gasket is suspect with 330BHP and will fail eventualy. Some go straight away, some last thousands of miles, they always fail though.

Too all those sad cases out there:
I'm buying a scoob at the moment - looking round for a nice type-r. Let's look at some simple facts objectively:
1. The subaru is ugly, so is the cossie, so is the evo
2. In there own way they all look aggressive and have "qualities" you like and dislike about they way they look
3. Image is important - no matter what anyone says. Cossies have a sh*t image generally and "Kevin" on the council estate in his £3 grand 2wd cossie smoker did nothing to help it. Subaru's in a few years time will most likely go the same way - especially if sad ***** start putting those goddam awful blue leds washer things on.
4. The cossie engine is a great development but a lumpy awful sounding lump all the same. The subaru engine is a nicer sounding lump but not a tuneable
5. They're relatively cheap, practical, fast cars. Race cars out handle them, exotica out "look" them, drag cars out accelerate them and sherpa vans are more practical. Let's not get into big "power performance" issues neither are that great in the overall scheme of things and anything is possible with the right wallet thickness.
6. A decent driver who REALLY knows what he is doing will be worth thousands of pound worth of mods. I'm a bit useful behind the wheel but not a patch on any regular racer - put me in your 600bhp cossie or whatever and he'll still whip my butt in a standard proddie car. Skill is something a friendly bank manager can't help you with.
I admire cossie owners for saying b*ll*cks to the image and owning one anyway.
Personally I'll go for a type-r and plenty of driver training to make up for the bhp deficit

For what it's worth in regards to image , when I see a Escort Cossie its a case of " Wow check that out " , when I see a scooby it's a case of " hey look another Impreza " sorry guys but its just my opinion.
I would have either if the insurance wasn't so f_ckin crazy , but to choose between them nowadays it would be one of the last of the older shape , perhaps a RB5
It's a credit to the Escorts that the residuals have remained quite high , will the same be said for the scooby's when there at the same age .....?

Well just butting right into this heated debate, i've had many cars ranging from Fords, BMW's Mercs etc, current one being a Imp Turbo and they are great cars blah blah blah.
All i'm gonna say is that ive never had a Vauxhall and wouldn't want one and my Smart car (600 cc turbo!!!!) would kick that Vectra ***** butt!
.....if my scooby towed it :-)
