Carlos the jackass -went to one of them RSOC shows and could not believe my eyes, there was one guy getting really angry at the fact his wife hadn’t cleaned his exhaust bracket properly
Thought I was going to have to step in and stop him beating her up at one point, what is with the RSOC and polishing behind the bumpers and scrubbing tyres with toothbrushes???
weird if you ask me

No-one is asking you! You are talking about a very small minority. Don't judge everyone the same....til you know what you are talking about

Guys,
I would hate to have to close this thread, because it runs off topic! At least keep it on track with something to do with Scoobies or Escort Cossies.
Regards,
Shaun.

This thread seems to be going down hill, shame!
From my experience of car shows there is a 'hard core' of concourse type owners who go mad if a fly so much as sits on their car, regardless of marque, make or model, this is how they are. These are the same people who take their road worthy car to a show on the back of a trailer so not to get it dirty. Now if this is your thing then fine, i run cars to drive them to appreciate them in this way.
Yes i like a well turned out mota but you can get too obsesive.

I would never do concours with mine - it is a car for 'driving' and having fun!!
The majority of cossie owners do not like concours either!!!!
Wouldn't entertain all the hassle of getting a dead fly off the bonnet

I've had a cavalier turbo and they are pants.
Stage 2 - if you had a Cavalier Turbo more than 18 months ago then you might want to rethink it a bit. Back then the tuning potential was utter pants and was basically Superchip and bleed valve to 250-260BHP.
Cosworth had good tuning available from the off...... Its taken 10 years for someone to start on the GM stock and its paying off
260BHP is now the lowest end of the scale (Phase I) and recent tuning products from Germany have taken this up to a completely reliable and tested 360-380BHP (Phase IV)
Sure its not the 500+BHP of some of the top Cossies but any car (regardless of make/model) that has almost doubles its factory power output is not one to be ignored.
If you havent tried one of the many Phase III Cavalier/Calibra Turbos going around (315BHP) which, incidentally, are getting low 13s 1/4 miles (Santa Pod) then dont write them off totally.
The good thing is most ppl think the same as you. Impreza owners, Cossie owners, Audi's etc etc all see the Vauxhall Turbo has a cop out so its a nice surprise or is that a shock ??
You are quite near Glasgow aren't you Stage 2 or am I confusing you with someone else ??

As i am privelidged to own a few cars (seven) only 1 is concuors condition and only because i bought it cheap for it is and it still has ultra low miles on it, although i cant be arsed taking it to shows because concours does nothing for me.
Cars are to be driven, thats why they have wheels and an engine, If i want to polish and look at something then i would buy a brass plaque.
I am sure there are some scooby owners out there who polish the paint off theyre cars as well.
Each to there own.

"Shaun- cosworths rule! whats that all about?
there is only one cosworth rule - 'they blow headgaskets'"
Perhaps when you see in person a 515bhp Escort Cossie, either rip it's way around a track OR rip it's way from 0-60 and then onto 1/4 OR rip it's way to a record beating 188 odd MPH, THEN you will realise what is meant by that remark!!! I won't even mention the fact, this car has also beaten the record of towing a caravan at over 125mph......whooops I already have.
The only Cossies that blow headgaskets are by owners that a)Know it is going to happen and don't give a ****, b)By cars that have been set-up on a budget or c)Cars that have been modified by gimps. The above mentioned 500+bhp Escort, has never blown a WRC headgasket.
One thing that makes me question certain claims about these Scoobies, is how come ALL these supposed high power ones are ALWAYS in a different country??!!
NEXT!!!!

scoobys are a well balanced car that is very drivable, alot more fun to drive on the twisties than cossies.
as to high power ones-your missing the point of the impreza altogether, they are a better car point to point on track and road than their ford counterparts (proven in revs scooby v cossie test)
power is nothing without control!!!

John, I don't feel that comment was in any way a constructive contribution to the debate....
On topic
I like both Cossies and Scoobs.
I own a scooby though, I would love to own a cossie ASWELL, but I can't, so I won't at the moment.
Edited to say that scoobs corner better
In the meantime I have great respect for both cars

So we will forget about the Reyland Escort Cossie, Monte's Escort Cossie, Bruce Reads 3dr and Derek Burleighs Sapphire ....... cause that isn't fair is it!!!
I would be interested to see how quick Simon de Banke can drive a)his Sti Type R and b)his 3dr rally car (even though it's only running 270bhp) around a handling track. I think we may all be surprised by the outcome.
Also I hardly think the REVS challenge was conclusive was it!!! How can you test car ability with different drivers in each car??????? I am not saying that the Scoobies would not of won......but come on, you have to be realistic!
Regards,
Shaun.

Jonny,
Considering ALL of the mentioned cars have been ENGINE BENCH DYNO TESTED to prove there power figures!!!!! In fact all of the mentioned cars have had to be live mapped on an engine dyno. Forget you questimate rolling road figures!!!
Plus they have all been based on Cosworth Touring car spec engines.
The Reyland Cossie was put on Nobles Sun Ram 4WD rolling road, a few months ago. I was there and saw the Reyland Cossie hit 515bhp!!!! (Which is awesome, by anyones standards!) Thats the highest figure I have ACTUALLY seen with my own eyes. If you actually realised what you were saying, you would also realise that to propel an Escort Cosworth body shell to 188mph you would need slightly more than 50bhp, as it has the streamline ability of a brick!!!

Shaun.

how long do you think that will last then?
i would give it 50 miles at the most!
they didn`t rebuild the rs500 engines after every race for nothing.
totaly unusable too, all the power is at the top end, nothing under 4500rpm
what a waste of money after all its still an escort!!!
the tuners must be laughing all the way to the bank

Funny how it keeps going for all these performance runs he keeps doing at Bruntingthorpe. He has never had a major engine problem, that I am aware of....... and yes he does use the car regulary as a proper running vehicle. He never turns up anywhere on a trailer and NEVER leaves on one.
Tell me why you think race cars are re-built, you may find it has something to do with the fact that they constantly live around the 8.5k band all the time. If you wanna do that on the roads, then I wasn't aware that the speed limit had been raised, OVER 2 TIMES!!!!!
He runs power and boost you could only dream of!!!!

Shaun.

I was down at Noble's the other day and saw a picture of the Reyland cossie on the wall. They said it was the most powerful car they'd had on the rollers so far.
From what I can gather about the car it has been built to race and go fast so topend power is what it's about and most turbo cars don't start doing their stuff until around 3500-4500 rpm anyway.I do not own a cosworth or an impreza by the way so can be impartial.
One thing I always think of when pulling up next to a cosworth is that it will probably have been modified and afford it a bit more respect(in terms of it's performance)than I do imprezaa as they are by and large left pretty standard.

hahahahahaha
This is why i am laughing. The last engine i helped in the prototype stage, the Rover V8 4.8litre twin turbo using wildcat engineering cylinder heads of which i hand ported the first ever set for my friend Ian Richardson. Running just 9PSI boost on 97 ron fuel.
good night.
Beat that.
And yes, this engine was installed in a car, the Rover MGX land speed record car actually. Boneville sands anyone, bring your cossie and scoob.
