Are scoobies still fast or is it my car?

Seriously though, I saw one at a track day I did and was an awesome bit of kit. Very very fast considering the power to weight ratio isn't great.
I recently tried desperately to get a pal of mine to buy one, but for some crazy reason he opted for a new X5. What a mistake he made hey. Think he knows it as well but won't let on, lol.

Guys, I need some advice, I have a jdm bug sti, still standard apart from a cat back and a panel filter.
Car does have some handling mods which are, front and rear arbs,22mm and 24 mm, alk, droplinks all round, and apex coilovers set to sixteen all round.
Every couple of days for the last few weeks, I have come across some nice german exotica, specificall Mercs and Audi's (all on private track of course).
Today an S3, but my car isnt really pi$$ing over these cars, they are competing very very well.
I dont know if its my crap driving (probably does have something to do with it, but Im not the worst driver), if there is something wrong with my car, or I need to start modding the engine asap.
Ive noticed when im on boost in sixth, the distance between both car's doesnt increase, and quite often we get up to speeds around 120/130mph.
I have thought I should drop down to fourth, but it is a bit scarey taking a han off the wheel and changing gear at over a 100mph, although I am practising.
Earlier on today, a guy in a S3 goaded me into racing, he did some really stupid stuff like throwing a plastic bag out of the window so it come on my windscreen, over taking on blind bends in the face of on coming traffic etc, so I backed off and decided this just isnt worth it.
Anyway, his car seemed to go round round abouts quite a bit better than mine, I feel there is still too much body roll, the coilovers dont seem to have improved the handling a great deal, there is less roll, but very bouncy/bumpy.
My car just does not pull away the way I was hoping it would.
Last time I had the car on a dyno she made 282 bhp, but this was with an air filter that was totally black (only had the car a few weeks, then changed to panel filter).
Im at a loss now as to what to do, Im not sure what else to do with the handling mods.
The coilovers seem to work best at 80mph, and I think I went with the wrong tyres for the bug (Toyo T1r).
Do you guys have any advice, or similar experiences?
I am planning to to go out on track with an instructor, to get some more high speed experience, but through out all this I went home and felt "his car is just as good as mine, handling well with out coilovers etc", when the boost kicks in the front no longer rises up, probably because of the coilovers, but the car feels a bit boring now, (or Im used to it).

try harder next time. getting beat of an audi is making the scooby look slow.

The car hides it weight exceptionally well, only failing you slightly on tight slow bends 30mph ish but that can be dialled out with ARBs and droklinks. It is a big motor but when you sit inside it shrinks around you. The things this car is capable of should have Newton turning in his grave ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Hi,
Posted the above years ago when faced with a similar post.
Subarus are great cars, but not the best on tarmac - come into their own on the loose. Far more cars out there that can be modded to out handle a scoob on the road.
Driver ability is king - a good driver is worth several hundred horsepower more. Don't believe me - go to the rallyday and watch a corsa or similar being driven by one of the Gwynnes pi**ing over scoobs, skylines etc.
Racing is great until something goes wrong. Once someone loses a limb, or worse still, dies, it's too late. You don't want to have to live your life with that on your concience, or leave loved ones behind....
I think slowing down and watching the chavs go past is a bigger thrill than taking the bait - AIMHO....
Stay safe, and keep the licence guys.
Mart.

It comes across to me that the majority of those sticking up for the o.p. are both relative newbies who cant spell nor use the english language. It says an awful lot about thetype of person buying the Subaru marque now - ie brainless illiterate fecktards in an increasing majority ![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)

I'm with several forums and up to now owned ten imprezas two legacys ( also skylines evos mr2 turbos and a intergra) and not binned any of them neither am I a cheque book tuner I do my own work and I'm 28 yo does thamadeleine me any less deserving of the marque then you like hell it does.
On one side although I will agree with some people give scoobies a bad rep but not al the people doing this are young men it's down to the individual not his age his car or any other factor.
In my opinion scoobys as a whole have a bad rep because there distinctive you can here them coming from miles away and due to this if any one spotted a scooby racing something for instance a fast Audi etc the scooby is the one they ll always label no matter who's winning.

Thought I'd reply to this as it made me laugh although I may be a relative newbie on here due to the amount of posts I have made or how long I've been a member is not only irrelevant but just shows the ignorance of some people who have scoobys. Some of us dont have enough hours in the day with grafting our nuts off at work 70-80 hours a week to sit on a forum on a high horse thinking that now the impreza is affordable and in reach of the working man it some how spoils it for the (in there opinion) upper classes.

1. I'm only 26 myself and owned my first Impreza at 21.
2. I'm certainly working class, ffs I'm only an engineering apprentice.
3. I have no issue in writing in legible English despite my lack of private education or middle class upbringing.
4. Just because you choose to work silly hours every week for whatever reason doesn't make my opinion any less valid.
Yes the Scoob is in reach of the working man, has been for years as I am a good example, BUT it's also in reach of the previously mentioned fecktards that Barry them up, stick on stupid accessories like chav trumpets and also who more often than not seem to have to grasp on how to write a sentence. Just to let you know, I got 2 B's and a C in my English GSCE's 11 years ago so not outstanding but I make the effort.

Pair of koonts,
form an orderly queue..
185+ mph and i was too scared to look down again as the world goes by pretty fast at that speed, on a mates tuned Zx 12r supposedly would do 212.
I might add that i was a fair bit younger and a lot more stupid back then but i was not racing..
So am able to retain my lofty location on my rather tall horse
