Right, I can reply properly now. Getting to work prevented me, before
I am not a big fan of drugs, and my comment was not intended to be flippant in any way.
I work with a lady who suffered from terrible depression. She was put on tablets and to me, they only seemed to mask the problem.
We all went out of our way, to help her. Going out and all that jazz. Might seem simple, but she has gradually weaned herself of these drugs, obviously with the help of her Doctor. It has took a long time, I cannot deny that.
She is now in a much better place. Drug free. She does still get the odd bout of depression, but nothing she can't handle.
Hope that helps.

CBT and exercise would get my vote - family history so some personal experience.
I would stay on the drugs for now but start doing the other stuff until you feel you can drop the drugs.
Good luck

What's the point of the drugs, and how do you define illness, how do you define health?
Should the people who bought into the housing bubble have been pumped full of drugs? Looked like group madness to me?
'Mental illness' has meaning, it's just a question of finding it, not controlling the person with drugs.

Look to diet, also intake of alcohol, recreational drugs, smoking none of these really help. ask your doc for any literature they may have or you can get a hold of + any websites/on-line support groups. It is not a sign of weakness to ask for help it is an acknowledgement you have problem and want to deal with it

This is what bothers me. You're taking meds, then stopping them and then starting them again. You really need to get a plan together, here. You've asked for advice, most posters have suggested that you seek the advice of your health professional and instead you've just necked a couple of pills without being advised, by someone who's qualified, to do so. The internet, particularly Snet, isn't the place to get advice; I regret pitching in with my thoughts. Your health professional will have your med. records, your history and face to face will be able to make a more accurate assessment of how you present. Please, please contact your surgery, explain what you explained to us, get a plan together and stick to it. If you feel things aren't progressing as you'd like, discuss this with the health professional before making independent decisions. People on here will support but, without all the facts, we aren't sufficiently informed to help you get well for the long-term.
Is there anybody that you're close to, and that you trust, who can go to the surgery with you? And what's your name?

It is a very difficult situation and I am sorry you have this problem which must seem insuperable at times.
I can't say anything one way or the other about the drugs etc., but I should certainly let your doctor know the whole story with nothing held back.
Maybe if you found an activity which you can be really taken with and which takes up a lot of time and effort and which you really enjoy doing, you might find that you have not got any time left to dwell on your present feelings, and you will generate the mental attitude and strength to push them out of your life.

Hello, Nathan. If you get on well with your dad and you think and feel that you can trust him, it may be good to have his support. Again, this is absolutely dependent on what type of relationship you have with him, even if he just goes down to the surgery with you and waits outside. There may be personal stuff that you don't want share with him and I'm sure he'll understand that. How do you get on with the doctor? Do you think or feel that they understand your challenges? Are you being listened to?

I'm fairly suspicious of the health care profession when it comes to mental health. If you see a psychiatrist they are going to prescribe meds...it's what they do....to a man with a hammer everything is a nail as they say. No discipline has a more dubious past than psychiatry also.
IMHO you would be better off seeing a Priest than that.
Personally I prefer the general Therapy approach. Have you read any books by Irwin D Yalom, there is miles more wisdom in Jung and Freud than you will find at your GP or psychiatrist.

Why is it irresponsible?
