gearbox is simple after bit of practice, they will get you block changing anyway so you wont use every gear.

as for the reverse most training vehicles have a mark on either the mud flap/curtain so when you look in the mirror you know the back is in the bay.

believe they have stopped the gear exercise now where you used to show you can go up/down the box.

i found the class one easiest but i did have 7 years shunting experience first

I've never used 1st gear only used 2nd a couple of times, even loaded I pull off in third then it's usually 5th 7th then 8th depending on the road, the class 1's I drive now have 16 gears but in fact you only use a few of them, don't worry about them, it's much easier than it sounds and as you is a wimmin you can multitask so will be fine

Small world eh? I passed with the chief examiner, after failing on the last day of the month with a stand-in examiner. It was a proper hatchet job (he had to meet his percentage), failing me with something ridiculous like 15 majors (in the example he gave for failure; if Id done what he failed me for not doing, Id have squashed a woman oncoming at the Frechville traffic lights!)! The training firm made all sorts of trouble and I got the chief examiner for my re-test.

To the OP: the gearboxes youre likely to come across are as follows.

Straight six - pretty straightforward.
Straight six with a half gear - operated by a finger lever under the ****. Its an overdrive on every gear that you can use, effectively providing an intermediate gear between the two main ratios.
Range change - either manual (your whack it) or on air (using a lever as described above). The most common transmission found on Class C vehicles. Can be a three speed but a four speed in a conventional H is far more common; can also incorporate a half gear (as found on older Volvo FL12s - 3-over-3 with a half gear = 12spd).
Eaton twin split - 12 foward gears and a million neutrals!

You cant be sure of course, and I wouldnt have believed it unless Id been the victim of it. If hed come up with one major then no one would have known...

I only repeat the story because it was tacitly confirmed by by head eximiner :O
