Should I buy an Esprit?

Oh Baby...
BRING IT TO MIRA!!!!!!
It would be fabulous to have something even more exotic there than the Lola T-70 I was drooling over a few months ago!!
I'll look forward to seeing the pictures.

OK..
The dealer has offered me the following:-
the S4S (up at £27,950) for
my car (above) and £19,850.
Does this sound reasonable?
I have little idea what my car is actually worth. Also, the price of the Lotus is quite low anyway..
I can't be arsed to sell it privately unless it is really really easy but I should surely get more than 8K for it?
What do you think?
Cheers
Simon

I had a V8 for about 6 months - although a fair few things went wrong with it (including going back to Norfolk for a new engine under warranty)
It was, and still is, the fastest, most exciting thing I've ever driven.
Mine was a 98R plate (last of the square dash models) in bright red with lotus sports pipes and a serious spoiler
I miss it

check out www. lotusespritworld.com for all the info you need.used to have a 1988 turbo.which i wrote off on a wet bend.didnt know about lift off oversteer i do now.one of the best looking cars on the road i.m.o.just a bit too flash although never suffered from jealous arseholes trying to scratch it etc. a real head turner.used to worry leaving it anywhere.glad i owned one not many people have.nowadays i want a stealth mobile.good luck.

Them were the days!
Yes I did buy it in the end, and agree with some of the comments above, it was the most fantastic road car I've owned, and probably even that I've driven.
Unfortunately I got to know the road between my house and the Lotus dealer all to well and ended up giving it back.
As with rallyfan, I miss it dreadfully though, and seriously consider buying another one at least once every 3 or 4 months.
Handling to die for, proper "can't go into the house without staring at it for five minutes" looks, and stunning performance. Just the reliability which let it down.

I have driven one at MIRA on the limit so I am fully conversant with the handling etc but have no idea about what models are best or how reliable they are etc?
I would be using it as a main car (mostly local stuff and a 100 mile round trip every couple of days).
Anyone have any experience?
The main things I would be grateful to find out are:-
1) What models are fastest / best?
2) What should I be able to get for up to 20K
3) Reliability probs, etc?
Many thanks in advance,
Simon

As with any car, though some sort of warranty (decent warranty) would be beneficial.
