A lot of them would have joined when they were quite young and just starting their careers. They probably just grew out of them/moved on as they got older. Add to that the fact that quite a lot of chavs joined and perhaps made it a less enjoyable place to frequent. The one thing you notice is that most of the early members who are still here are quite intelligent.

Still here maybe DESPITE their intelligence?

I guess pslewis is the exception though?

Yes people do move on I guess. I think PH caters to the more 'posh' petrol head community. I can see a lot of middle-class ex-scoob owners driving things like Lotus' now they are a bit older and more respectable.

Ha! PSLewis... I think he just posts here for a laugh, more intelligent than he let's on and younger, I reckon, the wee scamp! Lol

Scoobs were quite respectable once upon a time. But as with all these cars, they get cheaper with age and become affordable to different people. They've also lost their edge as a new car and aren't really attracting people looking to spend that kind of money.

Maybe a Mod can answer this for me. I thought I'd try and be clever and see if I could view the first ever post by just punching https://www.scoobynet.com/showpost.php?p=1 into my browser, but it took me to a thread from several years after the site started. What's going on?

It's no help to you, but I have no idea.

Perhaps a more technically minded mod can answer this for you, but I thought out of courtesy I'd give you an answer, albeit, a bad one.

I've been here pretty much from month 1 - the reason might be as is this is actually 'ScoobyNet 2' - the orginal scoobynet closed after about 2 yrs (after some major fallings out) & was reborn!

Blimey - it was yonks ago! Oh, the arguments about the logo's & rebranding was intense too!
Of course this is how I remember it - it was about 10 - 12 yrs ago now tho!

I remember when you literally could'nt read the posts fast enough - they would disappear off page 1 as soon as look at them.... the amount of 'bumps' posted was mad I spent many, many, 'work' days just reading sh1te on here - hours at a time, and still missed whole threads! it was insane in its day! I don't know how no-one got the sack!

People used to get real sniffy if you posted - then re-edited the post - that caused a few rows I can tell you - thats why the BB software was changed that showed that the oringinal post had been edited, you used to HAVE to put a reason too!

Mind you it was also 'the fount of all knowledge' you could post on here about *anything* and someone (or quite a few actually!) would have seen it, done it, got the T-shirt...

I remember the 'scoobynet unreal tournament' tuesday nights - crumbs the hours we played that (with modems!). The computer forum had its own tournament server nights! I lost badly every time I think some *good* people had early broadband and didn't let on!

Just so you all know, I've never actually owned a scoob. I only join to defend the honour of the Clio 172 back in the day when everyone was slagging them off on here because some dude on here got beat by one! and for my sins, have been stuck in here ever since!

I've been on the Evo forums years ago and posted occasionally on Pistonheads, but most seem to be up their own ***** then when Plato or Tiff pops on everyone acts like little school kids and leads to pages and pages of long threads of extreme bum licking.

NSR has humour, religion, politics, philosophy, BOTW, news, advice and views on just about anything and on balance is really quite down to earth kind a forum etc, basically most things to keep me amused and on the odd occasion gets my brain ticking, especially when I'm bored at work, keep up the good work everyone!!

No worries Lisa. I'm guessing it's either because the site uses some kind of number randomizing system, or the software went through a major update at some point earlier on in its history. Or I could be wrong and it's something else entirely, but it would be interesting to know

That is exactly how I remember it in its heydey. Last weekend there was a whole hour in NSR in the middle of the day where nothing got posted, but we are always told it is busier than ever

Quite possibly...to all of that.

It would be interesting to know, even though I still may be non the wiser.

I do wish I could be more helpful (I know you said no worries) as it's quite frustrating when you can't help people out, so to speak.

I can't find any posts that pre-date Nov 1998 + a lot of the old posters seem to have a join date of 22 Oct 1998 incl ex-webby who surely must be one of the oldest posters?

I don't know the figures personally, but maybe the site is busier in some ways (either certain sections or members online). It depends what stats are being looked at I suppose.

Obviously I wasn't here in it's heyday, so I can't really comment.

I only started posting when I met a few people from the site at Scooby Shootout a few years back. I started in muppets, but never really fitted in there. Although, I did have fun time to time and it was hard work keeping up.

That said, I feel as it stands, SN faces alot of criticism from some people, and sometimes unfairly. I remember quite alot of hassle, bans, infraction system etc. all which caused it's problems back then (pre IB). That comment isn't to offend previous owners, but just to say, there have been significant problems at times no matter who has been in charge or what approach to managing the site has been in place.

I always say, you can't please all the people all of the time, and that certainly applies here. Any place you have loads of different people, from loads of different backgrounds, there will be conflict and disagreements at times. I personally feel, it is better to look at the positives and get on with having a bit banter amongst mates, and yeah, putting the world to rights/having a bit of a debate. But don't take things too personally (I have a bit of a cheek there) and remember, it's only the internet.

I have met some really good people because of SN and made some good friends that I haven't had the pleasure to meet yet, and for any faults this place may have along the way, I am glad I came on and got that out of this site.

I don't know when Scoobynet kicked off, but since I have been here, I have witnessed some apples carts turned, some ups, some downs, some whoopsydaisies, bucketful of LOLs and similar e.g. WTF, OMG and LMAO sort of terms, some quality tumbleweeding at places, a few scoobies drowning in the lake, and a few fast ones still going strong. Its all go, I say.

SN is sadly now only a shadow of its former self.

I joined in at the very end of 2001, or the beginning of 2002, by mistake: Id mixed it up with the SIDC...

2001 was when I first started using the site.
And it was really at its hey day then.
I guess some of us older folk haven´t moved on. Imprezas have just become a bit of an obsession. And will slowly gain more of a classic status as most rust and die. Along with that this site will probably slow down in the number of posts considerably in the long run.

i joined in May 2000 and i think there were around 5000 members.

...and, for 2 years, I had a UK turbo from new with PPP and the driver enhancement pack. i got a prodive spoiler and changed the entire downpipe/centre/back box for the scoobysport 3". It also had a tracker.

it was the most ridiculously expensive 2 years of motoring I've experienced

My first post date is incorrect, although I believe that most others from before the software update are to.

Not sure when it started 97 - 98 probably. Think v1 was run by Mr Dawes. It closed it's doors for a short while, sometime in 2000. Have a vague recollection it may have been due to threads slagging off companies (PE?) and said companies getting the hump and possibly threatening a bit of the old legal action, so things closed, then it re-opened a short while after until Simon's control. A little while ago it was sold to IB.
