Scoobynet started when Subaru was born in 1917, before the internet it was done via post and in person, it started as a way to wind people up at a distance and spout drivel, the original posters were Les and PSLewis back then, each morning Les would open his post to find 15 or twenty short, handwritten letters about Cocklinks and poor service at various stores, often Les had to engege the Bow Street Runners to aprehend PSLewis to make him cease and dissist from his behaviour, these were the early moderators, Les fell fowl of the swear filter when he, under a lot of distress used a Jet Provost to skywrite a very rude word above PSL's country estate, Les was warned and never sworn since.
In the early 80's Scoobynet moved to "Oracle", a teletext service and had much of the look and feel as it does today, in fact the software used is virtually unchanged as is "BORIS" the venerable server, I say server, it is actually the spare runtime on a ZX Spectrum 16k. The telext days were considered the Golden Era of Scoobynet when people actually bought Subarus and owned them rather than talking about watches.
I joined in 1990 via Prestel, from my secure mental insitution where I live with my "j4ckos mate" who is actually my self aware, talking *****.
Scoobynet actually closed in 2009 due to Yoza killing everybody over a minor watch disagreement, we all access from the afterlife and merely see imagined postings, like the Sixth Sense but with more arguments about trivial ****.

Looks like he did leave a few forums "under a cloud" as they say.

Ah... A lot of join dates when **** during one of the forum changes, I actually joined on the 6th of Jan. Think it went from English to American and then back to English and got cocked along the way.
I've also never owned a Scoob!
I wanted one, joined here and decided I couldn't afford one. Plus after attending a few runs I could keep up in my Fiesta anyway! ![Stick Out Tongue](images/smilies/tongue.gif)
It's been a good place for me. Muppets, camping trips, fun days out, a gf for 5 years and some genuine friends made too.
It's not what it was, it'll never be...I guess it was cutting edge back in the day. I still enjoy NSR but don't venture into any of the other forums now, unless I'm really bored!

I joined originally in 2001 when I was looking at buying my first McRae but ended up changing my user name and re-registering.
I remember one of my first posts was fooling people into believing there was a classic headlight conversation available for this hideous new car they had just unveiled...the bugeye!

I joined in 2000 as it was more fun then SIDC site
In them days there was no clubs and Cumbrian Scoobs were born from the spotted section in carlisle where three of us got talking after seeing each others cars and it grew from there
Then I spotted a couple from Newcastle and tts gor together then the whole club network just got together from there

Loads of brilliant stories in the annals of Scoobynet, but only up until about 2007. Heyday 2004 in my opinion. Moles still my personal favourite. Basal_lobe the nastiest of the lot. NACRO the most divisive. Pity it had to end but people with agendas, etc etc

Wow, popped in here as not been on for years, great to see some old names still on the site, one of my personal favourites was Moses, the arguements were monumental. I completely forgot about the infraction system!! toys out the pram stuff!, and yes as some people have already said there was a server change that meant all our join dates disappeared.
Good to see PS Lewis is still hanging about too!

I just use to like the "who could get the most out of their Version 5 STI", normally between Steve Mculloch and Craig H ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Then you have the likes of Blowdog etc, those were the good old days![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)

Been through quite a few other cars and their forums since I had my still missed scoob but this is the only forum i still come back to. Even though it's a lot quieter than it used to be it's still worth popping in every now and then.
