BMW,I understand the hype

I do understand what your saying John.... Its just something i never really experienced badly in any modern car..
Back in the day i had a Lotus Sunbeam that felt that it was hardly in contact with the road when pressing on,unless the road was smooth it felt as though it was "skipping" across the undulations in the road.
I also had a 1990 Integrale that suffered similar,it put me off the road on a welsh forest road at speed.. Luckily no damage done.
The Impreza's i have had were sure footed, that cannot be denied. They are a superb, fast and very capable road car.
But for me there in lays the problem, they are quite boring to drive.
An Impreza is never a challenge to drive fast, any one can do it.

If I were the likes of Ken Block, I'd be majorly pissed off that people say that. Not everyone can drive it fast. The limits you can push a four wheel drive car exceed the limits of a RWD car. There is skill invlolved.

Mine is the N55 twin scroll model, very little in the way of lag.
Test drive one, see what you think!

Bought a brand new 120 D Msport a few years back.
I had nothing but grief with it. Fuel system was replaced under warranty then the engine went. I had that done under warranty too. Then all injectors needed replacing. What finally pissed me off was the sticking door handles where I had to then stick my arm out the window and push the door handle in before the door would close. This happened on both passenger and drivers door. I expected more from a new £27K car
I gave up after 8 months and sold it. Never again will i buy a BMW.

The 1 series is a bit of a weird car. They were designed and built on a budget to be a cheap BMW for the masses...And thats what they turned out to be,no better than a Focus or the like...
The 2.0d engine is also a the lemon of the bunch..They can do all manner of faults from injectors, turbo, swirl flaps and finally throwing the timing chain and scrapping the engine.
All the problems came about when BHP was beginning to get pushed over the 170BHP mark..
I wouldnt have ANY diesel BMW,or any modern diesel car for that matter. They have become so unreliable and expensive to fix that a lot of people are now reverting back to a petrol derivative..
I would have a 130M sport but it would have to be cheap..

I wouldn't put my 135 in the same class as a focus. Nothing wrong with a focus, but the 1 series drives better.
The focus on the other hand is more practical. As for the dodgy derv lumps, I don't know about the reliability as I don't own one.

Wrong. The car itself was originaly designed to be a brand new Rover model. Once BMW realised Rover wasn't going to work they sold Rover for £1 to the pheonix group (Who then took out Millions each and watched it go bust) while they took the new `Rover` car (and the Mini) re-designed it to make it look like a BMW, and sold it as the new 1 series.
