we are struggling to get a 2% pay rise this year and even if we get it, it will still be a pay cut. The past 2 years we had a pay freeze and the company are still in the brown stuff so not looking good. If anything its not about how much you earn or how much your pay rise is, its more about having a job in the first place, times are tough and it is going to get tougher. A note to those who brag about what they earn, what goes around comes around, most well paying jobs fall flat at some point through complacency whereas concientious jobs who cut back normally survive (just).

Pete will always have a job because he build nuclear weapons. It's a pseudo-public sector job never effected by the vagries of the free market. There's only one buyer and it's the government.

Its keeps ticking along Pete, don't see what Labour had to do with it. The only really good Labour government was the one just after the war under Atlee. In those days politicians felt it was important that they did something for the people of this country. Hows things change!

You have not seen me complain about my pension, but the starting amount was not actually startling.

Not in your league for sure!

I don't want to sound like pslewis but 100k is not going to mean a lavish lifestyle. It's not 'that much' and some posters on here earn a lot more.

Depends where you live and how you spend your £100k a year. Round here in Lincolnshire you'd have a nice house, get to see and visit nice places and have enough left to spend on your busty 18 year old mistress without your wife and girlfriend finding out

I'm struggling to get my head around this a bit. Even in Windsor and Maidenhead, the most expensive borough in the South-East outside of central London by far, the average price of a semi-detached is £330K, so how could someone presumably earning 75% or more of £100k not be able to afford some kind of property, regardless of where they're living?

BTW, only 1 in 20 tax-payers in this country makes more than £61.5k, and well under 1 million of them earn more than £100K, so for anyone to comment that it isn't "that much" shows a pretty astonishing lack of perspective.
