But it also helps that easy jobs are relative to your ability to do the job and speaking personally I'm very good at my job therefore find it easy. I'm not the only one either!

As much as I despise the glib BS'ers that are sales people, it's admittedly a job which requires a certain 'ability'.

Doing some car work myself does make you realise how skilled a good all round mechanic is, the term mechanic doesnt do it justice, ok, a tyre fitter doesnt generally have massive skills but a proper mechanic is a really skilled job, I think people assume it is just dirty and involves hitting stuff with a hammer but its about applying force correctly and keeping things clean, funny how it gets looked down on a bit but few people actually try it, or do, fail and send it to an expert.
Wow....

Someone who appreciates how hard my job is....Your are a rare breed.

Vehicle tech is really a mechanic who has been around a lot......lol........

I have been a HiTec technician at Nissan,Mastertech at Volvo and Tech expert and Ralliart engineer at Mitsubishi in my time....

Now just specialise in diagnostic problems...Mainly other garages or main dealers who have given up and send it to us!

Job gets harder everyday,New tech to learn monthly, new tools to buy monthly.....Labour rates and wages been the same for years..

I agree with him

Not only are you mechanics/tech, you also have to learn plumbing and a huge amount of electronics.

The only trade I can think of that nearly comes to that learning/expenditure curve, is gas engineers.

In the case of the OP , clearly not interviewing individuals to gain the best answers.
Only ask one question at a time....
Maybe in future ask, " What do you consider to be the best payed job in relation to the work involved" .
Open questions do tend to encourage more answers.

I think nowadays it has got harder with all the electronics and complex systems fitted to cars, I understand it as I work with computers and also do a bit of spannering in my spare time, so you need to have a good understanding of the electronics as well as the mechanicals, having to deal with customers as well who want it done for nothing or want you to ignore dangerous faults because they dont want to spend any money on it. Do think it can be a satisfying job if working on nice stuff.

Ha ha. I remember a few years back being on a rig in the N. Sea. Making all sorts of ROP records in top hole, some problems with the skip and ship system and it was pissing it down in winter windy too, the poor Swaco hands were out on deck with shovels trying to keep up looking like drowned rats!

Too many cowboy mechanics around which screws pricing up. After 3years of car ownership I have only just found a great mechanic who has 'served' his time and is now out on his own. The car always comes back filthy and I'm just after having to put my dash back together after he attacked but he does a honest job at an honest price and that's all I want!

It would be handy if you translated the jargon.
