Going to get a new panel soon and pretty much settled on the Panasonic TX-P50VT30B plasma, the reviews I've seen on it so far suggest it's the dogs

So lets call it about 150watts difference. So what's that? 25pence a month extra if used for 3 hours a day? Seriously, thats is a drop in the ocean....

Does your house have a room using more than three GU10 halogens @ 50watts each? If so switch them off (or swap for LED/CCFL bulbs).

How about immersion heater at 3000watts? What temp is that set to 70dgrees or 55degrees?

Tumble dryer? 2500watts

Washing machine? 1500 watts

You get the idea.
In these times of austerity every little bit helps, plus a lower powered TV will allow me to have all the GU10 halogen lights switched on in the house.

Not saying that power consumption was a huge factor for me, it may be for others. My parents have a 50" panny plasma, the picture is nice and the motion is natural, but does run quite warm and has fans buit into the back which have accumulated a lot of dust in the vents and a slight whirring sound can be heard especially noticable in quiet movie scenes. Plus generally plasmas are heavier, but as it turns out whilst not as heavy as an equivilent plasma, my LG LCD is still too heavy to mount on the wall (crummy thin plaster board!).

I don't mean to give the impression that plasma are crap, they're excellent and their picture quality, black levels and colour balance beats most of the more expensive (like Sonys) LCDs on the market. A lot of Pioneer Kuro's technology is starting to filter into the Panny range since they took over. But I think LG and Samsung LCD technology has advanced a lot and are among the best and match some of the expensive plasmas on the market interms of picture, colour balance and black/contrast levels.

When I was in the market for a new TV, I did a lot of geeking and researching and scouring the various AV forums for info and advice. Took me months to make a decision, with so many brands and models and technology, it is a mine field!! Without lookiing at the lables and brand you'd be hard pressed to differentiate between a plasma and the latest LCDs.

Depends on the input. CRTs simply cannot compete with panels with a good HD feed (hell, even the SD feed thru my SkyHD box).

Normal SD feed on these TVs is a bit cack though, I have to agree. We have a normal SKy box attached to a 32" LCD in our conservatory and it's poor compared to CRT. But, the SD signal was never designed to fill these sort of screens......
