Ms Jock fancies Maine Coon.
Thing she reckons cos they can be a target for thieves it should be a "house cat", it not allowed out. Says breeders say that is fine if that's all the cat knows.
What do you guys think - house cat or allowed to roam free with the risks attached?

I think it's sad for a cat not to feel the grass under his paws, or the sun on his back.

Wonder if house cats are scared of what's outside?
Must confess I prefer the idea of them roaming free. Seems more natural. We don't much like being cooped up either (it's called working in an office! ).

but tbh the roaming free thing, it has its advantages and disadvantages.
my cat knows nothing else, so doesn't miss anything
also we used to live right next to a main road and we saw several dead cats over 3 years, plus the cat across the road became 3 legged thanks to a car. Theres other risks, deseases, bigger cats bullying etc etc
i agree taking a wild animal or an out door cat and making it indoor is pretty cruel. But when its all they know doesn't bother them at all, just means they get pampered, christ my cat is above me in the pecki9ng order of the house lol

Lived for a while in US and a couple of folk I knew had house cats and had had their claws extracted so they wouldn't scratch the furniture. I always felt that was way too cruel.
Used to have cats but now find dogs much more fulfilling as pets. Cats really couldn't care less about you but dogs do.

Thinking about getting a cat ..
Be that a kitten or a slightly older cat .. I've got a GSD, soft as ****, plays with my two children, 6 months and 2 ..
I had a cat when I was little and its basically an animal you can use to teach a kid how to care for something, but if they forget, it wont die
I know a lot of you hate cats, really don't need to hear about that
Any suggestions, recommendation ? people giving kittens away ?

Cats are the best pets IMO. They don't need too much looking after because they are hard. They can take themselves out for a walk and for their toilet business, they take small space in the house, they are just pleased with climbing an odd tree, catching a spider and gazing at Summer birds, and they are extremely adorable. I have two cats. They spread love, peace, warmth and the sense of care everywhere. I treat them like Gods (not like just some prophet wannabes), even when they drop their fur all over the place. Anything is forgiven as far as my cats are concerned. Your little children will love your cat.
