Are they usually about £400? So they can be house cats, but presumably ther's no problem with them being outdoor cats too? You heard much about them being stolen?
cheers,

Thinking about getting a cat ..
Be that a kitten or a slightly older cat .. I've got a GSD, soft as ****, plays with my two children, 6 months and 2 ..
I had a cat when I was little and its basically an animal you can use to teach a kid how to care for something, but if they forget, it wont die
I know a lot of you hate cats, really don't need to hear about that
Any suggestions, recommendation ? people giving kittens away ?

im a cat paerson
please dont get one if you live near a busy road
if you do
siamese looking ones are low maintenance but kill lots of stuff and like to go out
persians are higher maintenance but happy to stay in or in a garden (maybe not all)
siamese looking ones like lots of attention as well, sleep in bed and like a fight, cat or human

Price wise £350 is what the breeder I am friends with now charges. You'll pay more for a breeding cat, or if it's from specific show winning line. As for being stolen I personally have not heard of this, but I could see why as they are stunning to look at and it's obvious to even untrained eyes they are not your average moggy.

I don't know why some people think that Siamese cats are dog's bollocks. Those skinny and wild looking creatures are quite ugly IMO. They are anti-social, cowardly shifty and temperamental in a paranoid way. They won't let you stroke them, no way! I get some Siamese cats from our neighbourhood as our regular visitors. Not that they want to be my cats' mates but their sole purpose to invade my territory is to raid my bins, and leg it fast, if caught in action. I had to get an expensive plastic container from Homebase to hide my rubbish from those greedy fekkers. I had a mixed Siamese cat called Mrs. Billi once. She was very good-natured, though.
Anyone who wants to get a house cat should get a ragdoll cat. They are very affectionate and homeloving. You just have to be careful with having fire of any sort around them. A friend of mine has a pair of ragdoll cats. One of them recently burnt some fur from her tail on a candle without knowing whilst lording around on my friend's living room table.

That seems to be a problem with any longhair cats as my boy seems to be completely unaware of anything his tail touches.

A 'Coon will love to be outdoors and are known to be awesome hunters. However........ I don't let my cats out, and a lot of breeders won't sell to owners who intend for them to be let outside. There's too many nasty folk around, and like others say lots of cars. Your choice though

I heard from someone working in an animal shelter of cats being stolen in Fife and used in dog fighting. One cat had an eyeball hanging out of his head when found, which beggars belief! They did patch him up and get him to a good home. A bengal belonging to a friend's neighbour in Dalgety Bay was stolen and never seen again too apparently.
Anyway, enough of the horrible stuff - is your breeder in Broxburn?

Very cute (well, he was a kitten! ). Ms Jock and I had to look after a friend's ragamuffin a couple of years back. Almost too affectionate! The only cat I've found where the fur irritated me!

Anyway My breeder is based in Dundee, this is her website;
http://www.thistleglen.net/
This is Magic's half sister, she now lives with my ex and is a real bruiser lol!!
You have to be careful with some lines of 'Coons. They are prone to heart problems owing to their size and I know of one particular line that's best avoided.
Most breeders will be only too happy to chat about the breed and allow you to visit, even if you're not sure about buying. I'd also be happy to answer any questions you may have and you'd be very welcome to visit if you're ever up this way

Do your cats get left at home alone during the day while you go to work?
What about everyone else here who has indoor cats? Do you leave your cats at home alone while you go to work? How do they find it? Do they have other feline friends to keep them company?

Wow, she's stunning. Absolutely gorgeous! How old is she? (I think we might be paying your friend a visit sometime soon in the near future!)

If you do plan on leaving them daily two are better than one for company. This is especially true for kittens and buying two from the same litter is the best bet. It saves introducing two cats at a later date as not all of them get along with one another.

One should leave a scratchy wood pillar or one of those string-made scratchy poles for their house cats so that they don't destroy staircase rails etc. by sharpening their paws on them. Persian cat may be a bit more civilised, but my fat moggy and dwarf tabby have knocked my ratten CD rack many a times. They continue to leave hisotrical scratches to my staircase to the attic. It doesn't bother me at all. I find it amusing and cute at the same time. A lot of people get their cat's claws clipped. I don't bother with that.
Another thing, you should be prepared for your cat to like your flowers. My fat cat circles around the vase of lillies, smelling them, and trying to play with them. Orange pollen staining on his white bit of fur tells us that he has had coversations with my lillies.

Get it from a rescue place.
They charge you a bit, but you are giving a homeless kitten/cat a home, which is a good thing. Your money goes back into maintaining orphan animals, anyway. So you are left with no regrets. My son's SBT dog was bought from a rescue place.
I got one of mine from a friend in Wrexham, and the other one came from Mr. Big G from Warrington, who used to post here once upon a time. Both parties kindly gave the kittens away to me. Now they are cats, and a very important members of my family.

To be fair the OP lives on a main road where the speeds aren't much more than you average side street.
Defo get a cat, you won't regret it. I have 3, (mum, daughter and son) as well as my Bullie and her Westie
Mention it in the local newagents near you. They're bound to know someone.......
If you're getting a moggy it should be free. I've never paid for one (except vet fees obviously)

Sorry mate
Your best bet is one of the rescue charities, although I'm unsure why you were turned down due to the kids ages? Often you'll see ads on the likes of Gumtree where someone has a girl who's up the duff due to a local tom........ they'll be desperate to get rid of the kittens.

No, he doesn't, OS. he is an intelligent cat, he knows the score. He even participates on internet forums since very young age.
Whenever I wrote jibberish at places, it was him, really. You may say, it would have been all the time, then.

Another idea is to find a few breeds you like the look of and then see if there is a breeding club, for example;
www.maine-coon-cat-club.com
Often a club will take on rescue cats who are pedigree but have found themselves homeless, or are ex-breeding queens. Some breeders have ex-breeding queens on their websites as well for a very small fee, or free.

Guess what. When you love them, you love them unconditionally. Fur doesn't matter, nor does them knocking your favourite ornament off the window ledge. Believe me, you fall in love with them, and go to work in your black suit covered with cat fur, you care not. I live on "one a day" antihistemine, but I'd rather sneeze my nostrils off than getting rid of my cats. They come closest to the ideal goodness in this whole world full of badness e.g. deception, chaos, misery, pain and undue demands.
Good luck with getting a cat for Ms. Jock.

A reply I just got ..
Hi
You are out of our homing area but you could try **** **** on *** ****. You may find that most rescue will not home to families with children under five, in particular kittens. I may be wiser to look for a cat which is childproof, ie has lived with young toddlers before and/or dogs. Please be aware that cats are highly strung and it may be too much for even a young cat to cope with a busy household as well as a dog. They may become withdrawn, hide or even become aggressive, so if there is no urgency may be wait until the children are older .
Good luck
