clocked doing 98mph on the motorway!!

The Authorities have seen every trick, heard every excuse and witnessed plenty of lies .... they are most impressed with someone who turns up to court, shows them due respect, is dressed as if going for a job interview, admits the offence, apologises and ask for 'understanding' that you never normally speed.
This action will reduce the fine - fines are always less if you show that you are a person - not simply a name on a sheet of offenders!
As TinyTim says, take it like a man - you know you were speeding, it's a fair cop as they say.

I can't believe some of the advice given on here to try to get away with it.

you havent got to prove that you werent driving dont accept it put in a random name with a random address that someone gave you that was buying your car end of!!! and the 10% rule is a grey area depending on what county your in i work for kent and surrey police and surrey are a lot harder on drivers but seriously ask for a photo and contest it becuase i guarentee that your get away with it!!
Oh dear, really a member of the constabulary stating you'll get away with it if you do x,y,z? mate seriously, get the traffic law copy of Blacks and see what it says about cause and use. if you dont know whos driving your vehicle and you havent reported it stolen then you are technically in control of your vehicle.
Might have to give up on the producer still being used.. If my force couldnt identify the person satisfactorily(?) then we'd arrest under section 25 PACE and sort it out at the nick. But i know that has changed since 2005.

as above,if you have been caught speeding just take it..
ive seen driving which is pretty damn dangerous at the speed limits to be fair
and they always seem to get away with it :/ so i can understand how bloody annoying it is to get caught..

To the OP
You've admited it to us, so just put your hands up in court, apologise, cite any favourable circumstances that mitigate the seriousness of the offence if applicable (e.g it was a mortorway and quiet at the time, good conditions etc) and accept the penalty with good grace. If you weren't being a prat at the time, the magistrates might just be impressed with your honesty and attitude and settle with a word in you ear, less points and a smaller fine. If you lie through your teeth, or project a bad attitude, expect to get shafted and rightly so!!
It sucks, but this one appears to be "a fair cop"

The other me says, if they clocked you doing 98 then your speedo must have been showing over 100mph and for doing that on a motorway in a subaru you have to be really, really stupid and deserve everything you get.

Surely you all have come accross the new speeding guidelines, which most police forces have now adopted. This has come as a result of government pressure, because of the amount of money it costs in beurocracy to process speeding offence cases.

If you don't have to go to court then try this.
Pay your fine, but, NO POINTS DEDUCTED, !!
This is how the points get added to your licence:
If you get a fixed penalty notice through the post which also carries penalty points the computer system first sends you a demand for the cash.
When you have paid, it then sends a demand to return your licence for endorsement.
It cannot handle the licence endorsement and the payment at the same time, and it cannot process the points part of the system until the financial section is complete.
If you overpay the fixed penalty, it must issue and send a refund cheque for the overpayment.
Therefore, overpay the fixed penalty by sending a cheque for the full amount plus £1.
The computer will then automatically generate a refund cheque for the over-payment and send it to you.
**** Do not cash this refund cheque - DUMP IT.
The system then remains 'open' and cannot generate the 'send your licence for endorsement' demand part of the program.
It does, however, record your payment of the fixed penalty, so it does not trigger the 'follow-up unpaid fine' stage.
As there is no human intervention, the system will leave you alone, since it has got your money, which is the primary objective!
Just for the record. I went to court for doing 94 in a 40 on my bike.
I got 6 points & £150 fine with £34 court costs. This was abouy 7yrs ago though.
Good luck with it.

some of the **** on here is shocking,
ure 28 mph over the limit and ure speedo would have been showing more as differnet wheels tyres etc can throw a speedo out by 8-9mph,
sitting at 70mph in ure car speedo is around 64mph on sat nav
so ure speedo must have been over the 100 mark mate,
take it on the chin but do go to court smart,if u need ure licence for work, explain that, may end up with larger fine and reduced points,

I recieved the dreaded letter yesterday saying i was doing 98mph on the motorway asking for the details of who was driving at the time, gutted!! Any idea what the fine will be and how many points? Also i have heard of people just ignoring the letters and after 3'ish letters not hearing anything more about it as it cost to much for them to follow it up. Any one know about this?
He got £60 fine and 3 points.

Your lucky you were under a tonne. Like me i got caught doing 96 on the m20 a few years ago (more than 5) and got a £90 fine and 3 points
My mate got cought on a same motorway doing 115 and lost his licence for 3 months not long after me
We used to have a very friendly guy at work who used to drive all our cars and horror of horrors got caught speeding in every car he drove !!!!!
Being the nice guys that we were we used to pay his fines and he was fine about the points on his licence
Nice chap though

Face up to what you've done. IF you end up in court which I have no doubt you will then admit the offence and crack on with life. As stated above go dressed smart, be polite and act like your sorry for the act of stupidity you displayed. Tell them you've never had involvment with the police (if you haven't of course) and would like to keep it that way in future. You need your license for work and for your family. Then see what they hand you. You could be lucky and get 3 points and a few hundred quid fine, could be worse off and get 6 points and a few hundred quid fine. Say your piece, show remorse and say your sorry. Take the points and fine, do the time and crack on.
End of the day if you lie and talk utter bulls**t then your going to end up in a worse position than your already in, you could get done for numerous other offenses on the way plus end up with more points and more money to pay out.
Good luck though.

I do not think it will be dealt by means of fixed ticket at this speed.
I got pulled doing 96 in a 70 6 years ago, the traffic officer told me if i had been doing 98 i would have got a 14 day ban. The two coppers where both pretty sound, even tho they where giving me a ticket.
I guess it will be down to the Magistraits on the day, unless they allow you to plea by post.
If it does go to court you do not get legal aid for traffic offences

My 10p worth
The only thing further I can add here is dangerous driving is one thing, revenue collection is another. Hats off to all of you who have a bit of common sense to realise that some things are worth exploring as failure to do so means we might never have landed on the moon or make change..
The law is the law and braking it has its consequences. All i can say is if someone broke into my house whilst my family were in it, would i man up and give him the keys so as not to break the law?
I own a fast car and surprise, surprise i like driving it fast, i enjoy the freedom motoring brings just like the Germans do on the autobahn.. "The overall road traffic safety of German autobahns is comparable to and in some cases better than that of other European highways"
Well thats my 10p worth, I do enjoy a good debate
OP if you feel strong about it, do what you believe is right

I had a NIP in the post for doing 112mph on the A449 in my old RB5. Never responded to it and they never followed it up !
That was 8 years ago though, and things have tightened up a bit since then .
If you do get a court summons, don't try to get out of it as you'll prob get shafted with an even bigger fine if you do .
Good luck.

From: Over 500ft/lbs of torque @ just 1.1bar
OP: What device were you caught on?
3-6 months would be harsh. Have seen people do worse and get 2 weeks.
Mate i feel for you. I have got summonsed to court on the 24th AUG for speeding 114mph on a dual carriageway. I am only to blame at the end of the day. But i have been advised by my solicitor ill be seeing a 3-6 month ban.. 3-6 points and a 200 - 500 pound fine. Due to circumstances ( cheap STi for sale if anyone's interested though.. ) good luck with your outcome dude.
