I'll do my best trying to get £80 quid worth of biscuits, not to much tea or coffee, might need a pee on way home and end up speeding. :-). Just glad I got offered it, was doing 40 in a 30

They usually do if you aren't much over the limit and you haven't attended one before. You only get one chance though.

5 points and a £240 fine when I got clocked by a van a couple of years back. Was supposed to be a court appearance as well, but I entered a plea by post.

I think it depends on the county, as North Yorkshire police don't offer the courses, but I was caught in Cleveland.....and they do. It definitely gave a number of years before you could do a course again though.

If you are in a position to take the points(FPN), then do so. Dont fund the speed awareness course, its costs more, but more importantly the police take all the money unlike when you accept the points which goes to the government.

If everybody allegedly caught speeding did this for a year or so it would end safety partnerships and we could return to proper road policing

To be honest I'd rather fund the police and not get the points.....as I'm sure 99% of people would. Although I understand what your saying.

I thought the safety partnerships were funded by the local councils though, not the police. Either way the speed awareness course cash goes to them rather than gov.

bit late now but even though i drive around at the speed limit i can't recommend one of those laser scrambling "parking sensor/garage door opener" things highly enough, yes they are legal as they do work as parking sensors and the £350 they cost will seem cheap when you get your next insurance quote, it's all too easy to drift 4-5mph over (anyone else got a throttle like switch?) which they will still do you for!
and yes they do work but only on the hand-held speed guns which are now all laser if you get caught on the average speed or roadside ones that's your own fault....pay more attention

Just been informed that a snooper laser pod has just been released but no reviews yet (£80) attaches onto an existing satnav or rear view mirror, or maybe a snooper 3zero. I think other than a laser jammer, the best bet you have of picking up a scamers

Bloody sausage fingers & iPhone!!!!!!
Picking up a scamera van is detecting the laser scatter from vehicles in front, I think if they're onto you then it's too late to react & the tickets in the post.
Definitely looking into getting some kind of detector for the mobile scameras as I have indigo for the fixed ones.

detectors are useless by the time they alert you it's too late, think mine is this one
http://www.snooperuk.com/products/laserstar/
will re-post if that's wrong when i find the box but looks right, saved me 6 points so far so that's £120 off the cost of £300ish (also no points he he) so it's getting cheaper all the time

I no loads of people have said about what to do but 2 years ago i got a letter saying i was doing 97 on a duel carriage the picture didnt show the 'driver'. The place is was taken was about 150 miles from my address so sent a letter back and said i had never been down there and have no reason to. Got a letter back saying sorry my vehicle may have been cloned and i had to carry this letter around with me just in case the police stopped me as my Reg would flash up on a the police computer as a clone. The second time i was sent the paper work which was 3 points and a smallish fine i replied saying i need a clean license due to my job and they offered me a smaller fine and to attend a one day course for speeders at the time i was just about to leave for work in canada by the time i got back i had letters from them telling me i need to finalise the dates, my dad who works for the courts told me its after six months and they cant do anything. I phoned them up and told me them what i was told and they agreed. There are still loopholes however they are very small.
