I meant the specialist, and legally under private sale u can not demand the money back, any way besides the point! The engine is dead were it's dumped the oil it's lost compression on number four and is now rattling from the shell bearings, have had this confirmed from a scooby trained tech, so the engine is gonna be rebuilt, gonna get the lump out this evening, the seller has agreed to give some of the money back, which will be help! The only reason I said I didn't have the money is that I'm moving house at the same time, I can afford to run it! Just this month is tight with the house but hey ho cheers for the posts all

I havent looked at your car yet, I just had a call with your symptoms & gave a possible failure. I'm sure I will hear it soon.

End of the day I've been mugged off and the phone call was made by a mate last nite to dan which confirmed exactly wat three other ppl have said who have looked at it so, so I thank dan for his advice last nite, matter of the fact is the car has been sold under false pretentious, I could go to court with the whole situation so if the seller is gonna return some of the money that's fair enuff. I'm in a **** enuff situation as it is now!! Stressed just a little

tbh i dont think you'll get anywhere with court, when you drove away form the seller it ran fine adn thast all he has to say to be clear and free, theres no way to prove he knew it was damaged etc etc. Private sales are buyers beware im afraid
i've been pretty lucky with mine, which was a private sale, only major thing i've had go is the gearbox go, but that may have been my driving on the isle of man,,,, lol

i don't blame you fella, tis a crap stick to end up with and i think i'd be the same.
maybe you can do some sort of deal with him as far as he gives you some cash back and you keep the car then get a rebuild done. Might be worth sugesting cos i can't imagine he'll want a rolling shell back, also if he has it built he'll never get his money back come sale time.
might mean you have to put some money to it yourself to get the build done right, but a reputable specialist should be able to sort you out a basic build so you get a decent reliable engine.

That's exactly wat he's agreed to do return some of the money, I'm getting the engine built by two very good mechanics n I've got a Subaru specialist also for an issues

personaly i'd be very carfull who builds it for you, building a ford engine isn't the same as building a subaru engine.
is it a company doing it or bob in his shed out the back of his house? If its a company make sure you get in writing exactly what your getting and what warrenty etc comes with it.

Hey at the end of the day I bought an impreza I guessed it wudnt last long but I think 24.3 miles took the **** a little! It's only a toy ne how so will probably spend more time being worked on than driving lol hey **** it it's only money!
#49
Why did you guess it wouldn't last long, Mate?

1. Why buy one if you thought they're unreliable?
2. While I'm sorry to hear of the unfortunate demise of your engine, Imprezas are generally very reliable, if properly looked after.
3. I'm always suspicious of cars which go bang a short time after its new owner has taken it off the sellers hands. Might be an unfortunate coincidence, but you're in the fortunate position to have a seller promising to assist you in funding the rebuild.
4. What was the car's history. This can point you in the direction of why it went bang.
5. Best of luck with your rebuild and house move

From experience there is a lot of this happening, as soon as a seller realizes the engine is goosed and the costs involved they sell on.
A buyer would not necessarily hear the knock on the test drive (it can start very mild and only at certain rpm) Buyer drives away with said car, gives it beans to see what it can do do and the knock develops very quickly into a failure.
If driven off boost a gentle knock can take a good few miles to develop into a failure (again from experience) which gives seller chance to get rid.

Just to back the seller up on this unfortunate demise of an engine, the car had been sat for around 6 months not being used. Subaru engines dont like being left that long & at a guess the car didn't have chance to be serviced before it was picked up by the new owner.
The seller has offered any assistance he can & I know for a fact that he would never have sold the car if he knew the engine was going to go.

did you take it easy when you picked it up (Stayed of boost) or did you run boost on it.
From what i can make out from previous posts it only done approx 24 miles with you driving and thats from home and going out to a garage etc.
To me that seems like it wouldnt of had time to warm up

Question I have is.....did you check oil levels before setting off? Did you test the car once purchased from the seller in other words putting your foot down like a mad man etc.
As has been asked already. What SUPER FUEL did you use?

So it had been stood for 6 months then driven away possibly without a proper check over and service.
When was it last serviced?
Do we know why it was off the road for 6 months?
