you are right, i knew they printed them after all the initial furore.. didnt realise how long ago

Although the source of the blast is unclear, Al-Jazeera TV notes that Norwegian prosecutors on Tuesday filed a terrorism charge against Mullah Krekar, founder of the Kurdish Islamist group Ansar al-Islam
plus their continued involvment in Afghan and Libya, and they are also seen as a weaker target than certain other countries

I don't think 2 years is a long time when you bear in mind these people are using the Crusades as a grievance.

In all seriousness, nobody (on here) actually knows which group's responsible. It might be worth holding back.

A police official said the 32-year-old ethnic Norwegian suspect arrested at the camp on Utoya island appears to have acted alone in both attacks, and that "it seems like that this is not linked to any international terrorist organisations at all." The official spoke on condition of anonymity because that information had not been officially released by Norway's police.

"It seems it's not Islamic-terror related," the official said. "This seems like a madman's work."
I guess a few of us were too hasty to point the blame

A terrible senseless incident. How was he actually apprehended? Can't have been easy if he was waving guns around or was he shot and incapacitated?

91 dead so far. 80 of them on the Island. Sounds like the police took about an hour to an hour and a half to get to the Island as the vast majority were going into Oslo.. nasty stuff.

Terrible events.

Listening to eyewitness accounts from the island on the news, sounds terrifying.

The gunman appears to be a right wing neo ****, the summer camp was a Labour run activity centre.

This just hoes to show there are some pretty ****rd up people in every country, who we don't know about until it's too late.

Reading this thread some of these comments are truly shameful.

These are tragic events irrespective of the cause.

Imagine 80 plus families have lost their children

BBC were reporting earlier that quite a few people are missing from the camp, thought to have been taken by the current at they tried to swim for shore.

Watching the news this morning. Pretty terrible.

People were walking up to the guy thinking help had arrived, only to be shot.

I think the Police will have a lot to answer for on this one. Yes ok, they thought the Bomb was the main issue. But to arrive 2 hours after the first phone call informing them that a mad man was shooting people on the Island is pretty unforgivable. I would expect the families of those killed to be seeking justice.

Terrible events.

Don't know about the Neo **** link, though he was about as right wing as they come.

According to local news, he was a member of the Freemasons.
Also, apparently runs a gardening company, which explains easy access to large quantities of fertilizer, needed for the bomb.

Islamic terrorist group or lone nutter, it doesn't matter. What this guy did was shocking in the extreme.

My thoughts with the victims and their families.

Keep it on topic please guys - lets not have this thread turn into a re-hashing of an argument between select individuals that has been rehearsed ad nauseam on countless threads already!

Apologies everyone, but I'm not going to tolerate people insulting the webteam for making a perfectly reasonable request to keep a thread on topic.

We've had innumerable threads on here that have been hijacked by a select few individuals and turned into a podium for them to spout their greivances with other posters because of a difference in CWE views. It ends now. I don't want to see any gloating by the other individuals concerned too (and you know who you are), or you will follow F1 fan!

Now, lets get back on topic please!

Only just got up to speed with this... shocking and upsetting, beyond what's imaginable - can you imagine the horror that the survivors will now have to go through each time they look at a policeman

To be fair Norway is a big place with only a population of 4.5 million. Their police are not routinely armed either.

These lone nutter shooting sprees might not happen, or be as bad if governments hadn't taken our right to bear arms.

Which is worth bearing in mind when anti-gun reactionaries use them as reasons to restrict firearms even more.

Yeah you're right. Let's give everyone guns. That will solve all our problems won't it?

The events are just awful; heart goes out to the people affected

The right to bear arms doesn't seem to stop shooting sprees in the USA

And didn't the shootings happen at a young persons political rally? What would they have been doing packing heat?!?!

Anyway, gun control is something of a different issue!

It might solve a lot of our problems.

I could give you a list as long as my arms of reasons for it.

Terrorists might think twice about taking on armed citizens.

Governments might think twice about giving our money to banks.

It's pretty obvious. The terrorist guy was the only person on the Island with a firearm.

If the adults on the island had been armed then you think he would have killed so many without being shot back at?
