No revs=no fun...simple equation for me.
Driven a mapped 335 and it was v, v quick but just didn't stir the juice; great compromise if you can't run a petrol car though.

No not boring at all Stu, I appreciate you taking the time to explain things.
Its funny I was in the car with my dad the other day and he was telling me how his cars performance (new golf diesel) improves when he does a bit of motorway driving. I put this down to him being a old man and that he was imagining things (sorry dad). i

Can you elaborate on why you say this please?
Many modern cars have user switchable maps and have done for years mate and those without a "driver" switch just do it automatically based on throttle input, load, yaw angle etc. A modern O.E: ECU makes aftermarket stuff look ridiculously fisher price like.

Yes Chrysler with the 300c have/had their v8 running on 4 cylinders when your running round town. But what I was talking about with ECUTEK racerom is a little different to a sport button that gives you a sharper throttle or a £70,000 m5 that can go from 400 bhp to 501 bhp. Iam talking about cars in a lower price bracket with smallish petrol turbo engines running two completely different maps to compete with diesels like the bmw's were talking about.

Diesel Particulate Filter
It's purpose is to catch all the soot that on older diesels you see coming out of the back.
To prevent the Filter clogging up the car has to run a re-gen sequence every so often. This superheats the DPF to burn off the soot.
This to me has always seemed like a strange idea, as the soot still ends up in the environment you just can't see it.
Newer diesels (Peugeot I think) have some kind of chemical in a reservoir which is used to clean the DPF, although I am not 100% sure what it is or how it does it.

Stu, don't forget the requirements for a forced regen too

Someone said before that truckes and buses dont have these systems but now you mention it trucks must have these systems, thats why some of them require the blue additives in a tank next to the main diesel tank.

Don't confuse the AdBlue system with the older DPF fluid system. They are two separate technologies.
AdBlue is for NOx reduction via a SCR system, this is seen on a lot of trucks and is in many new passenger car diesels, will be in lots more to meet new EU6 emissions regs.
The additive used on older DPF systems is something entirely different and not used anymore on modern diesels. It's there to increase the regen temp to burn off soot. Modern DPF's are made from a material that can generate heat without needing the cerium dosed fuel.

Don't know if this was mentioned, but diesels are the flavour at le mans. As performance goes you don't get better except maybe f1. But I understand that that is more to do with fuel consumption than outright performance.
Having said that diesels smells horrible and the cars all sound crap. Viva la petrol!

For reference data, that was my 635d with 2 adults and a boot full of the usual garbage I carry about. The 3 and 5 series cars are probably a little quicker. The 6 is not a small car. I hate small cars. LOL
Im trying to get VBox performance tools to work without crashing on Win64 and when I do I will port up some real data from the Racelogic Vbox Sport.

p.s have already recommended you to a few friends but doubt anything will come of it but ha ho.

Regardless of outcome - In gear performance is where these things score highly and such performance is far more my liking TBH (30-50 / 50-70 / 70-100 etc). I am far too old for the traffic light grand prix and far prefer out-dragging stuff in real world roll on scenarios than stationary challenges.

I will find out for sure soon. Seems the Racelogic VBox Sport Performance tools software needed an update to look at my datalogs and its in some different format so Im just going to start again and grab some more now its all working properly. The last set were done in the rain anyway so were of marginal interest. Hoping a mate with his GTR will come along and can grab some in his too.

Vid that surprised me. Couple of good sounding diesels on here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19G8_UQj3d8
The 3.0 Audi engine (0.18) sounds almost petrol like! The white Golf at 1.57 you can quite clearly hear it hit the 'wall' theres even an Impreza at 4.02! And the whistle on the Dodge Ram at 5.50 is pretty impressive!!

Some data from the Racelogic VBox Sport.
And some graphical data for a 0 - 100 run in 11.37 seconds.
30 - 50mph in 1.8 seconds.
50 - 70 in 2.5 seconds
70 - 100 in 4.8 seconds
Same car and load as before, 635d, 2 adults, boot full of stuff and 1/2 a tank of diseasel.

That said, you dont need it to get the data, you can graph it all on your PC. No buttons or anything to press, it just records everything at all times.
There is always this though...
