When you think about it though, he more successfull music was written and performed before she got off her ****.
Once she started the extreme drug abuse she vanished off the radar (music wise).
So are you saying her album wouldn't have won the awards if she wasn't on the drink/drugs (all be it less than the recent amount she was taking)
Are you telling me i'll become a successfull writer if i get on the smack?

I was very sorry to hear about her demise and at such a young age too.
She had a wonderful talent which will be sorely missed.
We don't know officially what was the cause of her death, but maybe some good will come if young people see it as a warning.

David, do you think your own son would be a better musician if he was a smackhead living "on the edge" as you say.

There's always been a fine balance in the artistic field between liberating creative impulses and giving yourself brain-damage or killing yourself. The only slightly surprising thing with Winehouse is that she didn't figure this out for herself (or that noone around her made her see it) before it was too late. Back in the 60s and 70s when drug use was still a relatively new thing you can sort of understand that a fair number of people in the biz went the way they did, but for people to still be doing the exact same thing so publicly 40 or 50 years later makes a lot less sense.

I think that about sums it up to be honest. What else is there to say?
Just a damn shame!
As for those who just HAVE to point out that they disliked her or don't care about her death, I would simply offer you some advice: if you don't care, don't contribute. The classy thing to do in these instances, as the old saying goes, is to "whistle on your way past the graveyard."

I'm not saying that people shoudn't have an opinion, especially on the whole drugs thing but I am saying that surely the decent thing to do on a thread of this kind if you didn't like the person, thought they weren't all they were cracked up to be etc... is just to walk on by, or at least keep comments measured and civilised.
People are too quick to droll out the old freedom of speech argument. Like all freedoms, it's not absolute - it's relative and any freedom comes with responsibilities and should be exercised with some discretion.
Anyway, we're getting a bit off topic here. Just something for some people to think about, I'd argue. No offence intended to you mate!
FWIW I wasn't a fan of the music and certainly not a fan of the drug-taking, but -as stated- above it's the waste of a young life and some talent and a real pity for her family and friends. Whatever way you cut it that's a damn shame!

Anyway I'll say no more as this thread is about Winehouse except to say that there do seem to be a preponderance of super talented people who don't quite seem normal to us boring old "ordinary" folk and may not see the risks that they take on in life. dl

LOL Very funny selective quoting, wise guy I was just trying to show how it's possible to not be a fan of someone and yet still express some regret at their passing! Little point in trying top argue tact with DCI Gene Hunt though

It's the people that seem to relish the news that I find a bit distasteful!
Anyway, back on topic!

not too bothered either way
apart from feeling sorry for her family
altho she mustve had a great time in life i reckon.
yes she had bad addictions - but most drugs make you feel great, hence they are addictive. comedowns are bad, but if you have the money to never come down - then its not that bad (apart from ultimatley pay the price)
plenty people that dont do drugs live with much worse lifes

27 seems to be a very dangerous year for musicians who like to cane it.
I think that this is sad but inevitable. saw Amy Winehouse at Glastonbury in 2007 and she was absolutely mullered; but she didnt miss a note.

While it is tragic when someone loses their life so young, I can never understand how the public grieve for someone they never knew.
According to the press, fans have created a shrine at her home!
Is this a bit too much?

Superseded by something called "tact" and "diplomacy" and " common decency", last time I checked I should point out that the following isn't aimed at you....

I think opinions have to be allowed if a forum is to work correctly although i agree that tact, diplomacy and decency have to be observed. I was not a fan of her and i don't rate her music but i will stop short of calling her names and posting up the jokes i have been sent about her.
There are some posts within this thread which probably don't belong!

If anyone sees anything nasty, just RTM and the mods will review. Having an opinion is one thing, being a ghoul (best term I can thnk of at the moment) is quite another and not welcome on SN!
