Ignore what these silly people are telling you, Dump valves are the single most important mod anyone should do to their car, the bigger the PPSSSSSHHHHH! the bigger gains you'll get performance wise so fit the biggest and loudest one you can get your hands on, plus the wimmins will be throwing their panties at you everytime they hear the PPPSSSSHHHHH! it's a well known fact wimmins love dump valves.

I have got a turbosmart DV, and i got to say, its sometimes a little too loud. It was on the car when i bought it so i haven't got round to taking it off yet. But i also have a few questions. I too would prefer a nice low noise when i change gear, i've heard a few cars with a fairly quiet chirping type sound and i was told that its an external waste gate. Do these exist, and do they make the same sound? I'm ditching the DV anyway cos its too loud, it'll be OE recirc for now i think. But would be good to get some sensible advice.

....and those things are;
BLOW OFF/DUMP VALVES
Blow Off valves are used to prevent compressor surge. Compressor surge is a phenomenon that occurs when lifting off the throttle of a turbocharged car. When the throttle plate on a turbocharged engine running boost closes, high pressure in the intake system has nowhere to go and is forced to travel back to the turbocharger in the form of a pressure wave. This results in the wheel rapidly decreasing speed and stalling. Using a Blow Off valve the excess pressure from the turbocharger is vented into the atmosphere or recirculated into the intake upstream of the compressor inlet.
EXTERNAL WASTEGATES
A wastegate is a valve that diverts exhaust gases away from the turbine wheel in a turbocharged engine system. Diversion of exhaust gases regulates the turbine speed, which in turn regulates the rotating speed of the compressor. The primary function of the wastegate is to regulate the maximum boost pressure in turbocharger systems, to protect the engine and the turbocharger.
I'm bored of it all now but the chatter sound that I was originally on about IS the wastegate (I googled it as suggested)
Actual wastegate flutter occurs under partial boost conditions such as partial throttle near the boost threshold. It sounds like FftFftFft not ShuShuShu and is caused by the rapid opening and closing of the wastegate at boost levels near the spring pressure. It is commonly heard more clearly and may be more prominent on cars with modified intake silencers, up-pipes, and or downpipes, and is not harmful.

Not sarcasm just the truth, it tells you there what "waste gate chatter" is. Its compressor surge and can **** your turbo over good a proper

Before this thread decends into hilarity or confusion for those trying to increase their knowledge, what Legacy gtb says is exactly correct, supported by Jura, 53WRX, Baz and others.
Dunk LOL.
There is another lesser known mod and that is to get a Black & Decker with a 5mm drill bit and drill a hole at the end of your downpipe. This allows air in to the system to ignite any unburned fuel in the overrun. If that doesn't work do a second hole. It may also make the exhaust note raspier. If a third hole hasn't helped just get a new downpipe and conclude you have no excess fuel in your exhaust

well got one fitted now.its an adjustable one to tighten the piston.or loosen.but i have to be onist.my car doesnt feel as quick as it did before i had it on!!!!.hmm maybe dump valve ant the way to go.theres so many choices.but think the standad one works better.i like the new twin supersonic hks one but cant warrent spending that much.ive only just brought my bugeye.its standad apart from exhaust.i plan to upgrade headlights.sti 8 spoiler and bonnet vent.full decal pack.uprated brakes to drilled and grooved.rear defuser under rear bumper.should look nice.just waiting for funds tomake it look how i want.but deffo not touching the engine.there quick enough without destroying a great car

The reason why I fitted and aftermarket dump valve was because the standard OE valve leaks at higher boost pressures.
I agree that there are many useless aftermarket dump valves that make the car run worse.
I fitted a GFB Response valve that allows very high boost pressures without leaking. It is also fully adjustable between VTA and recirculating and anywhere in between, like having a volume ****.
The spring tension is also adjustable so that I was able to set up the valve to get a better throttle pick up. It also seems like lag is less when re-applying throttle.
I have set the blow off to mostly recirc, with a tiny amount venting to atmosphere. When driving normally it is quiet but when at high boost and hooning it makes a very civilised noise. I don't get any annoyed looks when letting off the throttle :-)

My question is, why do I always see high powered cars with VTA's on them is it's actually less efficient?
Everyone is saying OE recirc is more efficient, but at what level of power does that become false, if at all? Is it the same for other cars? I think I'm yet to see a Skyline without a VTA valve...

Jesus Christ! ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Is this thread for real? Even with all the info put on a plate for them, some will still wish to waste £200-£300 on something that will:
A) Make your car run WORSE! Fact
B) Make you look like a Tit.

None at all?
You are aware all turbo cars should have one from the factory ..... if so are you specifically slating atmospherics?????
OEM recirc valves are the way to go for sure .... BUT .... they can leak and dont flow well enough when you start running alot higher than factory boost levels.
