Gary
Thanks for your more understanding follow-up post. It just seems that every time anybody posts indicating that they may have been driving too fast, you flame them, and I have just got the impression that you were a bit of a killjoy. I understand that fast cars can also be extremely safe, but I also struggle to believe that you never drive your Evo at high speed on the public road. Do you never exceed the speed limit, even if you consider it safe? What anybody judges as "high" or "safe" is obviously totally subjective, and another debate. My comment about your Evo was made as I couldn't understand somebody buying a road car that capable, if they never intended driving it quickly on the road. For all the restraint in the world, you'd need to be doing very regular track days to get your money's worth, and you might as well go racing/rallying instead.
If you have ever had an accident, you will know the feeling of relief that comes afterwards when you know that nobody has been seriously hurt. Hopefully your attitude isn't the way it is because you've had a serious accident where people have been hurt.

Just had some physio on my whip lashed neck and saw the car at the dealers. Its a mess. I am really lucky that i didnt hit anyone or collide with a solid object. As some of you have said i was on a high at the time - not so much now - just greatfull to have come out of it unscathed. Its certainly taught me a lesson - the fact is that when you loose control you have little or no chance of correcting it. It was like one second the car slides - and i tried opposite lock, the next second im being thrown around in a hedge. It happens so quickly. You are then in the hands of God as to how much its going to hurt!! If a tree was on the side of the road i might not be writing now....

Makes you feel really mortal.

Hi Mungo,

Exceed the speed limit in the evo, never

I think I pretty much summed up my stance in the last post. I certainly don't think I drive in a way that is unsafe, and I set my speed according to my perception of the conditions. But I KNOW that driving the evo I'm closer to the edge of the safety envelope, such that should "lightning strike" in the form of a major error of judgement on my part, the diesel spill on a bend, the tyre blow-out, or an animal run out in the road (etc etc etc), that the consequences are almost certainly going to be a lot more serious. Everything we do in life involves striking some sort of balance between risk and reward, and I accept this risk because of the reward in the form of the buzz of driving the evo (or the scoob before it).

Now I know that we can't all drive around at 20mph, despite the fact this this would probably massively reduce the number of road fatalities. I am also well aware that there are many factors other than speeding which cause accidents. But I am pretty convinced that adherence to speed limits would play some part in reducing the fallout after the "unlucky/bad judgement" scenario. Unfortunately, it tends to spoil the fun we can have with our cars on the road

I sincerely hope I'm not really a killjoy If it comes across that way, then it's probably because my posts sound harsh, in an attempt to strike some sort of balance on the threads in question.

Cheers,

Gary.

Jza,
Glad evreyone was ok, and glad it wasn't your scooby too. Thought your post was funny as I'm sure you're quite aware how lucky you and everyone else was, and were just getting some light relief.

Your post originally reads a bit 'Max Powery'

Flippen 'eck!

Id just sat up all night with a concussion and getting into work wrote something off the cuff for people to laugh with me on forchrissake. I didnt realise that so many people would read so much into what i HADNT said. This forum by its nature is about cars - fast cars which often by there very nature involve an element of danger. I just shared my experience - in an albeit commical way - on something that had just happened.

Since then im being preached at!!!! I DONT NEED A CRITICAL ASSESSMENT OF WHAT I WROTE THANKYOUVERYMUCH. I dont care!!!! I am alive!!!! My car is in one bit!!!! No one got hurt!!!!! If that makes me "max power" then i guess ill have to hold my hand up!!!

Maybe you should lighten up a bit - this is just a forum for (in my case) scooby owners. People wont go out and kill people based on my words will they?

Also where does it say "please don't write anything that sounds MAX POWER-ish" anyway?. I used to love max power

This is my last post - fed up with justifying anything anymore. Thanks to anyone who wished me well.

Jza

Glad you are OK.

There is a moral to the story.

BAN every knackered old bus from the roads!!

They cause congestion and pollution, and for good measure p##s diesel everywhere just to keep you on your guard. I stopped riding bikes just over 3 years ago because IMHO there is just far too much to go wrong on public roads.
