I don't think you can make a serious case for actually killing rioters intentionally. After all, however distasteful their activities might be, their purpose is not usually one of taking life.
However the administration of a dose of substantial physical punishment applied with a degree of enthusiasm such that the scum bags are unlikely ever to forget it wouldn't go amiss.
And as already said anybody intentionally present at a riot, whether a spectator or ring-leader should consider themselves a part of it and liable to face the same consequences as the perpetrators.

I hard a cop saying today that for the first few days they had 6,000 coppers out and were really stretched. But today they had 16,000 coppers out 
Something doesn't quite add up. But I bet they still have those overweight smug traffic control cops chasing some poor little kid in a beaten up old Escort with bald tyres instead of getting their fat ***** out and doing some real police work.
And some poor sod in Tottenham had been watching whilst a neighbour's shop was wrecked with hardly a copper in sight saying they had twice as many police out for the Spurs soccer game last Saturday
And in the unlikely event that there are hundreds of arrests where the hell are they going to put them? They don't deserve bail.

I have no doubt you are genuinely indignant and outraged as any sane person would be, but you need to apply some rationale to the situation.

Deploy the army with lots and lots and lots of CS gas then a light sprinkling of cold water from fire engines. CS gas reacts with cold water and starts to sting the skin even more 
Then send the troops in with pick axe handles as ****** squads to rap the thugs round the back of the legs go and grab them whilst they are rubbing their faces, drag them behind the lines of riot police, tie them up with plasticuffs and hand them over to the police to be arrested for breach of the peace, rioting, inciting racial hatred, looting and criminal damage. No judge, no jury take them straight to prison for 5 years.
Rinse and repeat until they either get the message or are all tied up face down in puddles of CS / water with no means to rub their faces

The family of the hoodlum who got shot have condemned the violence.
Block all BBM/Mobile comms and most of this ****e will stop.
Briefly mention it on the news and then let is drop, don't give it coverage just make us aware. It'll all stop when school begins in a few weeks.
