It may have the same traction level but if the tyre is more "squeemish" due to more flex then its also going to give you some brown pants moments (and less grip )
I would also look at how the tyre is manufactured, quite a few of these budget/cheaper brands as cheap for a reason, hence why I dont buy crappy brands for performance cars

If you reading the Uncle Scotty reviews on Nasioc,he is not positive anything what is cheap(like coilovers, brakes etc.),he's properly negative.

You are tried before RS-R on yours? I assume no,i've run these on few cars before i drive Impreza and when these has been unavailable here in UK(i run these in Czech Republic on few Hill Climbs in 2009)

I'm not reading, how they're manufactured,i'm driving these and trying find best possible tyres.
These budget/cheaper brands are in most cases not the best solution(Nexen,Nankang etc),but some like Falken,Kumho,Hankook,Federal too are in most cases better than more established makers.

People still think what is expensive, must be good(TOP notch),but this is not truth in most cases, its just nice advertisement(too nice to be truth) ,its something what i call Placebo effect

For best reviews try type to google Federal RS-R review

Jura, what people think are good and what really are good are 2 different things
You need to look at something like the adac or some of the other proper tyre tests that test braking, handling in the wet and dry etc, those really show you how good a tyre is, the likes of the falken 452's are shown up badly in those tests yet people rave about them, just shows that what some think isnt necessarily correct

ADAC test are just test, which are not from real life.I've read few test on snow tyres, when our Slovakian/Czech tyres has been last one(Matador and Barum).

About the Falken, yes on few websites and forums they have rave results, but people like them.

These were on my car when I bought it. I was glad to see them gone

Same has to be said for the T1r's - generally accepted good feedback, but the reality is different. It's this kind of review hype which makes me nervy about going RS-R as they haven't been in for the long-term

Subscribed for info only (not interested in a debat )

I was on 18" Eagle F1's (v pattern), but ive had to change as my car was almost a MOT fail on tyres, so I put on what I had to hand (in the shed ) which was Toyo proxes T1R, however Im planning running this coming Grudgement on Pirelli Pzero Views please

Default Track tyre choice

I did my last two track days on Uniroyal Rainsport 2's as that's what I fitted for the road. They were okay for Cadwell, but they struggled for grip on the faster laps at Donnington, especially coming off the Melbourne Loop (hairpin), lots of squeal and 4-wheel spinning. They've lasted surprisingly well though and so I can recommend them as a road tyre.

While at Donnington I experienced the difference switching to a set of track tyres made to a Civic Type-R and so have decided my next set will be more track focused. I have a spare set of wheels so they don't need to be road legal. I've been looking at the Toyo R888's but as everyone has noticed they're damn expensive, so I like the idea of trying out the Federal RS-R's, but I don't seem to be able to find stock of either anywhere. Anyone had any better luck sourcing some? Anyone actually used any in anger on the track yet and want to share your views?

I would this address and contact Federal right away or supplier of tyres.
Most guys running these tyres stretched which is not the best.

Hi Rob

best will be ask people which use Pzero,i never tried these. But i've seen few test and where Pzero come last(Autocar),but as above all is just test and real life is real life.In this test has been at the top F1's

If you are looking for good budget performance tyres i would go with Hankook V12,which people rate them as exceptional (EVO guys mainly),in most test which i've read is on 2nd place after Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

According to their website they don't have stock in any size 17's (205/215/225 x 40/45) of either the Toyo or Federal.

Jura, I dont know how you can easily dismiss these proper tyre tests, they push the tyres better than 99% of people will ever do in real life, test for side wall movement, braking distances etc, its better than someone thinking its a good tyre just to see it suddenly let go on the road/track if they are pushing it because someone said they were excellent.
Cheap/budget manufacturers are cheap/budget for a reason, though they may do the job there will be a better tyre out there (though it may cost more and not last as long )
I went with all the hype on the GSD3's on a vauxhall omega, the car was fitted with some vreddies (just the ultrac) which were very good, the gsd3's were horrid compared to those, far too much flex in the side wall, the car felt wallowy with those on, yet great reviews.... shows you what you miss when you have a good tyre on then drop to something not quite so good

Tony i'm not dismissing any test, but some test are not the too accurate in my view,i've tried few track days tyres in Czech Republic.

Cheap/budget tyres as you are said are for reason cheap, but Fedral or Hankook/Kumho track days are long way from cheap and budget tyres.Yes are cheaper than Toyo.

GSD3's never tried and i think i will never try,i've run Vreds not on Subaru, but on Audi, where seems has been just OK,but still think i wouldn't buy these on mine car,T1R i've tried on mine where has been just horrible, these are hyped like you are hyped Vreds

Tony,but i've tried myself RS-R,Hankook V12 or Kumho v70A and i'm happy these recommend,you can't write off Budget/cheap tyres without trying
