I ate in there and wasn't that impressed to be honest. Food was nice but very little of it. Place was full of yachty types being very loud and standing around in their brightly coloured Helly Hansen jackets , in the summer.

Had a better meal in The Rising Sun.

I hated the Eden Project, but loved the sheer drop slides they have in some of the parks down there.

Try Crealy Adventure Park, I don't think it's that far.

You might well have to arrange an overdraft to eat at Rick Steins I have heard!

they all fluctuate in terms of quality tbh -- I have been going to St Mawes for 30 years -- and got married at the church in St Just, so have seen the quality come and go -- the "Riser" has a great location though

the one to go to was the Philleigh (otherwise known as the Roseland Inn)

Rick Stein has numerous food outlets in Padstein -- ranging from the expensive to the very expensive (plus his quayside fish and chip shop)

A clever way to sample Ricks Steins food is to go one one of his 2 day cookery courses

Travelling about isn't an issue, so a trip further a feild is fine.

quite a nice little place with a good beach, had a day there earlier this year.

Newquay - not very nice to be honest unless your on a stag do...

if you have kids try the dairyland, has good indoor play area and when we went, you could go back as many times as you liked in the same week.

Which of course is rubbish. Fish and chips is £8.

We stayed at the seafood restaurant but ate in Steins cafe which is a bistro type place rather than a cafe and it was very good I must say.

We used to stay in the St Mawes Hotel which was nice but expensive, good job I wasn't paying.

The Shoalstone pool at Brixham is just like that, it was the first ever swimmimg poole I went into as a toddler. It is still going strong now.

Went a couple of years ago on a sun holiday, loved it, however we didnt do much other than go the beach as the weather was ridiculously hot all week.

Awesome fresh cake shop halfway down the main street in newquay itself, some nice pubs in the main town, just be careful on fistral beach as we got clamped and cost us 70 odd quid to get it off, we were with the mother in law who has a disabled badge which we thought we could use on the car park and had been all week, on the last day we got clamped!! *******s!!

Is it still going? It was all rained and had a load of junk in it about 2-3 years ago when I was walking past though that was in the October.

Les,

We've quite often stayed in Moorings Reach which after walking past the lifeboat station are on the left near the little yacht chandlers.

Yes it was in a pretty parlous state, they were going to close it down but then the council relented and it is back in business thank goodness.

Mrs Leslie and I often have a coffee at the small cafe just along the way towards Brixham and its a nice place to sit and look across the bay to Torquay. Pity I did not know you were there.

Mrs Leslie told me today that some friends told her that they had a sit down meal of fish and chips with wine at Steins and it cost £25 each. Thats a bit easier to understand if still a bit pricey.

Yes I stayed there a few years back.

Apparently it's had a refurb now, it seemed quite nice before, so I'm hoping it's not too tacky. The words LED and SHOWBAR make it sound very... exciting!

As for the boozing, a couple of beers is enough with the kids to look after.
We have tried to adapt a 'when in rome' attitude with regards to these Haven sites, but it's just not my thing.
