You'll get more choice in the US.

I recently bought some wide fit trainers in UK could only get New Balance no other makes available in UK and had to get these off internet. There was a much wider choice in US.

The best boots I ever bought were from decathlon. They were about fifty quid and have been superb honestly very light easy to clean and hard wearing. they still sell them.
If I were you I would get some cross trainers preferably black. You could get away with wearing them at night for bars etc wish I was going

These boots are cracking - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...N8MZYAR9XJH27J

Had a pair for years and although I don't do serious walking anymore (I did when I first got them), I wear them all the time. I've worn them to work loads of times, outside every bad weather we've had (the really bad past 2 winters) and they're still fine. Very impressed I have to say, but I'm no expert.

Or it could even just be an older version of these I've got - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001VKY63...0&linkCode=asn

Either way, they'll be good. Very comfortable, lightweight, and your feet won't sweat.

Merrel are also brilliant but the Gortex ones are no where near as comfy as the non-gortex ones

Thought I'd update as I got a lot of help.

I bought these in the end after trying a few pairs on in 'Blacks'

http://www.blacks.co.uk/footwear/men...ribute=4264121

I knew I could get them cheaper from other places online but bought them there and then, but an unexpected surprise was when I got to the till and they were having a 'All store 25% off Week'. So instead of the £95 I ended up paying £71 which I thought was pretty good, so good the other half got a pair of these which took the price down to £75

http://www.blacks.co.uk/product/084746.html

thanks for all the help and suggestions

Both very good choices, i'm a big fan of northface clothing and currently have 3 pairs of solomon's on the go, two summer pairs and my winter pair which are very similar to your other halves but brown and they are on their second winter and still look like new when cleaned up, i'm sure you will both be very happy.

I have had a pair of North Face hydroseal (cant remember the exact model)boots for about a year-very comfortable, however absolutely useless in the slightest of damp conditions and started to wear quite badly.
I was very suprised as I expected North Face to be a quality item when it came to boots(I know their clothing is a bit of a fair weather user bit of kit!)...
Ive binned them and bought some Berghaus Explorer light boots.Gore tex, comfortable out of the box and quite lightweight compared to the outgoing North face boots.
Bought from Blacks at a decent price, following loads of good reviews and I had a discount voucher!.
I definitely wont buy North face again...

Sorry for the hijack but I was going to start a shoe/boot thread and yours already existed so thought i'd keep it in one place.

I need a cross between wellies and Nike Air trainers. I only wear Nike Airs due to back pain Nike Airs stop it however they aren't any good in Winter walking the dog in muddy fields. Last year I wore wellies and they absolutely knackered my back walking 5 miles a day and I ended up with months of back physio

So is there anything that exists that are as shock absorbing as Nike Airs but water and mud proof as wellies?

Not exactly wellies, but they would be good in muddy fields!
