I personally do believe the doll was placed where it was with the express intention of causing offence
I bet the old woman in question is that particular village's resident holier than thou interfering busybody

There probably is an underlying story to it that only the two people involved know about, but it still is really petty to take someone to court over a coloured doll in a bloody window.

They are embroiled (or were) in a planning dispute. The "old boiler" as it was put wanted to build stables for horses etc. Their son competes in Eventing.
The neighbours in the huge barn conversion objected strenuously, even hiring their own planning expert.
Basically they've gotten off on the wrong foot or hoof! And now they hate each other. Looking at the size of the properties it's fair to say IMO that both parties will like the sounds of their own voices...

This post tells us what's gone wrong with the law in this country as a result of political correctness. It has itself become discriminatory and unfair. Imagine if it was "white maids" being advertised. If that didn't result in a witchhunt and end up in the tabloid papers I'd be very surprised.

Basically the reason the fairly harmless golliwog doll has been turned into such an issue is its origins, most black people probably don't give a toss but it is being worried about by right on white social worker Guardian reading apologists, move on or ignore, however a white person who is at odds with a black one deliberately using such a symbol to cause offence is out of order, accidental my star, she was making a point as surely as walking up to them and calling them Nuggets, in fact this was more insidious and plays right into the hands of the apologists by making it a symbol of racism rather than a fun toy that happened to be black and is fondly remebered for being on jam pots. Even if she isn't actually all that racist doing this to have a go crosses a line, its the intent that's the issue, suspect she is just a vindictive old bag who is pissed off at not getting planning permission.

There's a lot of double standards though, J4CKO. A lot of people say or do things that are offensive to me, but no one would be interested unless maybe I was gay and a comment alluded to my sexuality. Then it would be front page news.

There is a ginger kid in my office and one of our Engineers is a black guy they are good mates the engineer called the ginger kid "ginger nuts" which the kid said "cheers for that ya black *******" even the Black guy pissed himself laughing.
Next thing you know the kids up on a disciplinary as a complaint was made not by the Engineer but a half cast girl that overheard it and the kid got sacked.
Not once did anyone complain about the Ginger kid being called names and even the girl that complained and got him sacked has been heard calling this kid names before.
Problem in this country is every ethnic race is protected and can shout and ball at us but you shout back and you will get lifted not them...

It would not suprise me if this case has been dropped and the Golliwog doll has now been arrested and faces charges which could result in imprisonment

If you want me to spell it out for you Les, then I will do. If you could put yourself into the position of a black person living in Britain in the 1960s or early 1970s, whether naturalised or otherwise, can you seriously say to me that a programme featuring white performers in black makeup with simulated huge lips would not be offensive to you? The fact that you found the songs "pleasant" is ******* immaterial to the offensiveness of the portrayal of black people. Wouldn't you feel uncomfortable if you lived in an overwhelmingly "black" society and there was a programme on where the performers were black but all dressed like Chas 'n' Dave in white makeup, stretching out their braces and singing "Moi awd maaan sed follow the vaaaaan"? How would you then go to work the next day and suffer the jibes from your workmates about that programme? Seriously Les, you need a reality check. You get away with it because everyone sees you as a loveable senile old duffer, but your vacuous, "trying to be inoffensive" posts make me want to shred my antimacassars with my bare teeth. There. I've said it.

No I can spell reasonably well thank you and I did not ask anyway. The black people I knew in in the times you mention never had any complaints in fact.
I stand by what I said, the Black and White minstrel, show was not in any way insulting, it was an entertaining show to watch, they sang the songs very well in that particular style which was enjoyed by all who watched it. It was an extremely popular programme. There was never any kind of a move from black people to condemn it either.
You must be a dyed in the wool Pc Plonker. I think you must magnify things in your imagination until you come to an entirely innaccurate conclusion as most PC Plonkers do. What on earth makes you think that people took the opportunity in general to be offensive to black people at work or anywhere else? You must be making it up purely for effect or to invent an argument.
I think you must also be trying to imitate a Cockney accent with that strange statement you made. Well I came from the London area and I don't find Chas and Dave a problem in any way and if they were imitated by a black cast I would probably find it quite entertaining. As it happens, having spent some little time in the Services I have become quite used to a bit of harmless banter and the trick of course is to return it so that we can all have a laugh. As I said before, its the way it is done.
It is almost as though you have shot your mouth off in a deliberate attempt to run me down for your own purposes!
You would do a lot better to go back to the antimacassars!
