I don't think that's true at all. If it were, then the nit-picking and bickering of we oldies would be victims of the signal-to-noise ratio. There's ****-all signal from the newbies, except for indecipherable gobbledegook, so our noise is all-too-easily picked up.

IMO (which could certainly be wrong) most of the newbies, especially the 'text talk' ones normally don't venture out of Scoobynet General or the Technical sections, where their questions on VTA dump valves and how to get 400bhp for under £500 get answered quickly.
NSR is still mainly made up of the genuinely nice oldies (90%), but the 10% of knobbers who unfortunately seem to have the biggest voices leave a bad taste in here.
Like i said, all IMO of course.

The only time NSR is really alive, is when something controversial is being discussed or people have something to moan about.
I know everyone wants to place all of the blame at the feet of the mods, but that isn't entirely fair. Part of this, is that times do change, people come and go and even the ones who stick it out, have their own real lives to deal with. I can be here as a mod, but as a member, even I can have times where I have other things to do which will result in me doing my bit as a mod, but I simply can't be arsed to interact as a member.
From a mod pov, nail was hit earlier when it was said we can't do right for doing wrong. Topics will come up, and then people will jump in complaining about it. If we ignore it and let it carry on, we are wrong (with one set of people). If we moderate, we are wrong with another. Whatever we do, we upset someone, and it is impossible to tell how many people we may lose whichever approach we take. People want freedom of speech when it suits what they want to say, but can't accept that same right if other people exercise one they don't like, and so it all goes on. The sad thing is, is that we (in NSR) are busier when we allow discussion however it plays out, then it either goes quiet if we step in at the request of users, or it all kicks off because we have. Then people complain the place is dead, until of course something kicks off again and the whole cycle continues.
I have tried asking in the past what people want to make the place better, but in truth there is no answer to that, as we all know deep down, we can't win.

Well I have just had a lovely day capped off by a family death so in the effort to let off some steam and due to the fact that the mods seem happy to let you drone on with your increasingly obsessional goadings I have decided to reply to you just this once.
Let me spell it out for you, I have no wish to interact with you at all ever again. Despite what you think I have probably forgotten more about F1 than you will ever know and you have no idea who I am or what I do yet that doesn't stop you from trying your best to put me down rather than accept things at face value hence I have left the F1 debate to you. Your reply will no doubt be that I try to belittle you, well given the standard of your debate about F1 you deserve it quite frankly!
The fact you still have that PM is actually quite creepy especially as with a large dose of irony your reply was to demand, quite pompously I might add, that I never PM you again.
Well I am asking, not demanding, that you just stick me on ignore the same as I am about to do with you again and we just pretend the other does not exist. Will make the place a lot more bearable for you too I would think given the fact that my posts seem to annoy you so much!

I haven't been here as long as some of you but I certainly have seen the, shall we say, "calibre" of the members on here has gotten worse over the years.
As with any internet forum there are the people that just want to incite arguments all the time (Trolls) but there are also, usually the same, people that get baited. It's easy to see when someone is leading you into an argument, just ignore it. That will only annoy them further.
I remember when a lot of the threads were about detailing and hardcore projects. Times certainly have changed.

But for the main I think the type of poster now visiting NSR is the cause of its demise. The demographic has changed over the years for sure and that was bound to happen, but 10 or even 5 years ago nearly everyone on here had a Scoob and had that common bond... NSR was an adjunct to the Scooby General section of the forum.
Now we have people here who have never owned a Scoob and who make NSR their first port of call. These days it seems to be a lot more about oneupmanship, point scoring and getting the better of one's 'opponent' rather than debate. People with something to offer the forum often get shouted down and end up not posting on subjects that they know a lot about due to other posters feeling the need to be 'big and clever'.
It just isn't as nice a place to be as it was .... much like the UK really I guess

Well worth a read, how would Scoobynet Mods deal with that thread? Vaped in seconds I would think to the detriment of the forum. A lot like my educational Computing threads.

So you are ignoring the mods advice?
No change there then.
I do not mind having a good old debate, but when people start trying to win an argument by stating things such as 'I'm better than yow', I will not just dissappear into the back ground.
You can say what you like, but you never have the evidence to back it up.
Remember the time when you tried to make yourself sound important by stating your views on why Ferrari were fast at Silverstone? Inside knowledge and all that? The when I pointed out that you basically ripped your statement, almost word for word from an F1 website, you got all angry and abusive.
I'm not having unjustified pops at you here. I am stating facts.
If you are going to ignore me, that's fine. I understand.

Gearhead,
What exactly are you trying to prove here?
You accuse me of being rude yet in this thread you opened up proceedings with the grown up and upset comments before moving onto calling me arrogant. You say you are being diplomatic and reasonable yet you are anything but and now this. You just seem unable to stop and frankly it's getting a little creepy!
As for my post .... word for word???? Hardly and yes I read the article, but much of what is in it and what I wrote about is just an opinion based on information that if you follow the sport avidly you know about e.g. that for Ferrari to be fast at Silverstone is lilkely more than just a blown exhaust issue as they have not been fast at those sort of circuits for a long time, but that being said it is still opinion and the last time I looked having one wasn't illegal even if it does broadly agree with someone else's.
As it happens I saw the detail of back of the car from a photo taken at Silverstone by the imaginary people I know in F1 and yes Mark Hughes' article confirmed that Ferrari had brought major upgrades to the car ... which we already knew as Ferrari had already told everyone in a PR so is he to be castigated for summarising something from someone else's writing too???
So let's see... aside from not liking it when I have an opinion garnered from information in the public domain you also don't like it when I maybe have one formed from information not in the public domain .... you know what, I think you would just try and pick holes in anything I write so much like the fact I withdrew completely from the photography section because of a certain poster's actions made psoting there a chore rather than fun I will now not bother coming back here for much the same reason and anyway you obviously seem to think you know best and have it all in hand.

The fact is I don't have to justify or give you evidence of anything, Who do you think you are that I need to prove anything to you?
As I said before when posting just becomes tiresome and a chore what is the point? You have made posting about F1 on here like that so I chose to withdraw and leave you to it yet still you persist.
Now why don't we just do what I said and ignore each other. You have said several times you don't like me so why keep trying to engage me? It is more than a little odd!

+1
Plus the bit you said in an earlier post about threads descending into arguments. It's like sitting on the stairs whilst your parents are having a row. There's no humour in here anymore, plus *some* people are so far up their own *****.......

Angry? Abusive?
Here is my reply to your post on that:

As others have said, you try to 'point score' at every available oppotunity. That was why Scoobynet is not what it was. That is why it is the same old faces in NSR as this behavior scares off new members. I am not the only person that hold this view, as Ant demonstrates, but I suppose we all most be wrong as you are never at fault.
And if you are ignoring me, why do you chose to respond?
In 'theory' you shouldn't respond to this......or should you?

Someone should take a good long look in the mirror and practice what they preach!
I think of scoobynet as being multi'car'tural with owners of other makes and models adding to the diversity and rich tapestry!

Interesting slip up though
And not clearly angry at all, all in your head .... after all there is plenty of space in there
