If it's a very early RA (nov 1992 - Sep 1993) it will have the code GC8A47D but if its a slightly later car (Oct 1993 - Sep 1994) it will have the code GC8B47D.

I thought the first RA cars were Carmine Red (bright red) while the Wagons were Vivienne Red which was a bit less bright

I honestly didn't think the very first RA's were available in anything other than white. I've seen later cars in red but not the very first models.
Shaun, The first Wagons were not available until Oct 93 whereas the first RA's were produced from 92. The earliest wagon was a B series car compared to A series cars for the first WRX/WRX RA. I'm certain the first cars were only in white.

Only a small number of Version 1 RA`s were produced in Red. I did read on Type-RA Owners club that it was 25.. The rest were white (The Common Ones.. He He) .. Which is making Red V1`s Very Rare.. In the 19 years, most of the 25 will have been written off, rotted, broken up, Stripped and raced... Also, not many Red V1`s were imported into the UK in the first place..

I also have a Red V1 RA....

I read a reply here that said RA`s were the cheapest of the bread as they had so much missing... This is untrue. The RA was produced with Group N parts.
The MY92/93 WRX Version 1 Type RA is the lightweight competition model of the Impreza WRX which was designed for entry into Group N rallying. It is a purpose designed road going version of the Rally car.

Extras and luxuries such as ABS, A/C, Elec Windows, Stereo, were done away with for weight reduction.. Short ratio gearbox fitted, quicker steering rack. Also has the 5th injector. IC Spray. Fuel/brake lines ran inside the Chasis rather than underneath.

As for the body, they actually came off the line with No Boot spoiler, no side skirts, no rear wiper, no fog lamps, Black non elec mirrors, black door handles.

So, £1600 for your one is quite a find... And if it`s in VGC, it`s only going to increase in value and worth holding onto.

My RA had STi Boot Spoiler, skirts front lip fitted to it by previous owner.
I`m wanting to take mine back to it`s original look. Mine has no rust or dinks, so shouldn`t be too much of a problem...

No they were Vivienne Red Shaun, but your spelling of the word was better than mine...

As for aircon, both my WRX RA and STI RA had aircon and a fella i knew had an STI RA with electric windows......The door cards had a small blanking cover where the winder handles would of been.

Version 3 STI RA, still the best scoob ive ever owned..!

Well you learn something new everyday, really didn't know they produced any early RA's in red.
They were however (in standard trim) the cheapest Impreza turbo available at the time. They were 12% cheaper than the other model available, the WRX. It's not that they were made using group N parts, they were built as a basis for customers wanting to take part in group N rallying. Hence the 30KG weight saving. But as you know, all these missing parts were available as optional extas bumping up the weight and price.
They were also known in Japan as My A series cars, I'd love to find one of these in completely original condition and low miles. Would have to be white though. Bet an original car will be as rare as rocking horse sh*t now as nearly all have had things like spoilers, wheels, skirts etc added.

If you haven't seen it I have an original WRX RA for sale in white, its not quite as early but one of the best I have seen.

My brother owns a 1992 WRX Type RA in red, I didn't realise they were quite as rare as they are.

Red Type-RAs arent as rare as people are suggesting. Ive seen WAY over 25 A & B Series cars.

Phil,

I hope you didn't read that on there.

If you did please point it out to me & I'll remove it.

We have no idea on the actual numbers of red ones produced, but if/when we get to the bottom of it, I'll be sure to post the correct figures.
