The average owner is about 35 years old, is a skilled worker (normally in IT), married, and a home owner.

As you may or may not know, i speak to literally thousands of Impreza owners, and the above is my first hand experience.

Of course, this is very boring, and won't get the kind of response you're looking for, but i thought i'd just add a touch of truth to your myth.

And the ''Subaru owners are now council house scum cars'' is soooo 2009

Gotta love a good trolling thread .. but I'm 29 (today actually) have two kids, two cars, a house (mortgaged) and am in IT.

The area I live in, is surrounded by poor, lower class council estates and the only Subarus I see are owned by other members of this forum, who take meticulous care of them and drive within the law (mostly)

So to you sir(OP), I say ..

Good response from someone who has the information, knows what he's talking about, and not just trying to fill space on an internet forum.

I'm not fishing for anything, if you this board then you will know I don't involved in that.

My view is wrong? Wake up drive around open your eyes and you will see who is driving them. Our town centre is riddled with chavs driving them. Of course there are still older drivers but without question a high percentage are kids driving older models.

Sorry if I hurt your feelings but the reality is that subarus are now seen as chav due to their majority drivers.

It's the exception thath proves the rule in this case.

Yep, they've become complete chav chariots - a 'professional person' driving a Subaru screams "dick head" these days.....

Sorry if I hurt your feelings to.

Ironic how you say I don't know what I talking about, how long have you been around here? Commenting on a thread that is talking about the old days when you wern't here.

Before anyone turns this into a thread about new users let's put that to bed. It's nothing to do with that, back in he day a high percentage of Subaru drivers were as I said in my original post, unfortunately from what i see these days it is the other way round. Doesn't mean all are.

By the way I'm only early thirties so it is not an ageist thing.

People are turning this into a trolling thread, read my original post. That isn't trolling or fishing.

Not hurt my feelings at all mate.
You expressed an opinion based on limited information drawn from what you see.
Moley casts a far wider net and what he has written is based on hard facts and certain knowledge gleaned from a positon of professional advantage.

Your post, although perhaps not intentionally, does come across as devicive. And, bearing in mind you and I don't know one another, as someone else has already said, your post does come across as snobbish. Do you really think you're going to engender favourable comments with remarks like "See driving subareas now this third generation are generally a bunch of **** heads who would have been driving novas in my day. A lot of active members have drifted away when subareas became un cool and idiots started driving them and posting here."

As for how long you or I have been on SN, your join date says you have been here since 2004. How does that rationalise with your statement that you have "been lurking and posting here for nearly 12 years"? Name change/rejoin, perhaps. Poor maths, doubtful. Bull5hit, again doubtful. My point being it doesn't lend credence to your post.

For the record, I won't see 50 again, and you could say I am of independant means.
I don't feel the slightest bit chavvy, or cool for that matter.
I own and drive the car simply for the buzz it gives me.

i think the scoob-class issue varies from area to area. I know a lot more appreciative-scoob drivers than I do chavs driving them (west midlands).

If it is an area thing, would be nice to know where all the idiots are so we can stay away from them! lol

One of the reasons sn has changed is local forums when I got mine 11 years ago there was only SIDC and sn then it all changed with at least 25 active forums all over the uk I'm surrounded by Cumbrian Scoobs ,Tyne tees ,nesf ,southern Scottish subarus and the LADS all within travelling distance to go to a meet or on their forums
Ownership
I have run the NBO for nine years now ,we started with 400 dropped to 350 and for the last 3 years have settled into 280-300 per show and it's the same faces every year with many have being going for 6+ years
Age groups
As one of the founders of CS /TTs majority of the members are 30+ and quite a few in cough cough 40+ too
Most ex RS ford owners too who saw the light ten years ago
Good mixture of cars as well in Cs we have 7 new hatches and only a few classics now ,mine included ,classics are getting older and rare and are becoming well looked after

Years ago we talked about modifications now detailing is popular and shorty restoration and repairs will be on the agenda
In tts /nesf mostly bug/blob/ hawks so my Wrxd causes conversation and in the lads which is a massive club all sorts of models but again most owners are 30-45 age group

The chavs with the strange rearward facing baseball hats do drive round the McD car parks but tend not to join the clubs or forums

Maybe you need to move to a nicer area?

Where i live (and the surrounding area) 90% of Impreza's i see are standard and driven by oldies.

I don't know if these 'chav mobile' ones people appear to see are myth, or just in certain areas.

Of course, i propably don't speak to those 'undesirable' as i expect they drive without insurance, so wouldn't speak to me.

However, my comment was based on both the owners i speak to, and the ones i see on the road where i live and travel to.

the majority of scooby drivers i see are barrel waisted 40 somethings. the fatter they are, the more tricked out the subaru - with decals and pristine wheels, etc.

and, on the motorway, they're usually doing 75-80 and it's me, the audis and bmws and, strangely small cars, doing 90 in the outside lane.

i've seen the odd kid driving a mashed up classic turbo, but they don't seem to be modded - i had a straight through SS decat, so i can still tell

I don't even own a Scoob, never have done. Only come on here for the banter, sometimes for some very interesting topical discussions and the occaisional whinge, though admittedly a good discussion is getting a bit thin on the ground. Nonetheless, even though I'm a member of other forums, I always find myself coming back here more often than not, mainly NSR. I put it down to the like-mindedness in humour, attitudes, broadly similar views on political and outlook on life and a sence of familiarity of the members in that I sort of "know" what most of you are like and what to expect in general and of course not forgetting BOTW!

LOL, you'll make be blush my friend. Surprised anyone paid that much attention to my somewhat inane "on the fence" posting style.

SNet will probably end up like 205GTi forum which I think is like invite only or something.

Either that or the site needs more forums to appeal to more people and SNet becomes a lifestyle forum and not Subaru specific. Move the forums around a bit so the lifestyle stuff is first.

It's not just SNet though, other forums specific to cars will probably be on the wain if the manufacturer doesn't produce cars for the boys - MLR will probably go quiet, Passionford has the ST/RS and a big following anyway. GTR register has the GTR etc etc. Subaru has a hatchback that many people secretly like but don't want to admit it. (Bugeye Prodrive is one of my favs so I like the ugly ones - just look at the wi...... ) If I can get away with using it for work now and again I'll be getting a Prodrive Bug STI next year.

There also the issue of age of folk on here. Take OCUK for example, computer based but has food, motors, sports, films forums. The age on OCUK is probably more varied given its computer based roots and maybe alot more students on there than here. I post infrequently on there.

Maybe run a games forum and see if anyone can be bothered to set up some gaming servers - its how I found the Banned From Life forum having used their Team Fortress 2 servers. Never posted much on there unless it was why the server was down

If not new forums then maybe a sticky or two? RC stuff seemed fairly popular so if it can't support it's own forum perhaps a sticky in NSR would be an idea - although that risks the first page being full of stickies.

SNet will either become a local website for local people (i.e. a bunch of clicky handbags swingers) or open its arms to a more varied range of internet folk.

Chop, I agree with some of what you say contrary to what Moley says there are plenty of kids/chavs riding around in early classics, but they probably dont get their insurance through him because either 1: They dont have insurance 2: They're not that well informed.
As for the ****** we've had them 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen in here, Lewis being the original 1st gen

Get back to what you do best Chop, smashing in back doors and hanging out of stuff .

Oi! I resemble that remark

Only got into Subaru's a couple of years ago but should be over my midlife crisis by now (the approaching bus pass in not too many years away). OK, mine is a Wagon but it's running 350BHP. So to those that think I should be driving an Audi or similar by now. Even my other half says I should grow up. Plenty of time for that............I hope.

There are loads of grim Imprezas round my way. I usually acknowledge other drivers, but sometimes i just want to curl up so i can't be seen. No you DON'T own a frikkin rally car, why make people think it is?? Seeing a decent unmolested one is rare.

As Mr Munkii mentioned, Moley only sees people who have the wit to look for niche insurers. A lot of the dross i see probably goes to Compare the Meerkat or something and takes the cheapest possible option, after not declaring any of their mods, awful stickers included...
