im 6'6- its not a tourer but it never did me any harm unless i was on it for over 45mins.

I bought my Gixer without even sitting on one. Walked into Carnell's, grabbed a Sales spod, and said, I *need* a gixer 750, what can u do for me. An hour later after a fair bit of haggling, I'd bought one. He did comment on "well, we havn't even got one for you to sit on", but I didn't care. I've had a gixer before, and I had sat on the 600, which is the same bl00dy bike anyway, bar the engine. It took them 2-3 weeks to get it, as their doesn't appear to be many of the 750's about. Its all 600's and thou's. As I said before, it would be nice if you could try both the R1 and a Gixer, as the riding position/feel is completly different.

I took the R1 out for a long test ride this morning after a lot of form filling and questions from the salesman. (I didn't mention my 6 year gap to him)
This bike is insane, I opened it up in 1st like I would on my old Katana and I was launched to about 50ish, into 2nd and I was doing about 70, I was too scared to take my eyes off the road in 3rd & 4th to check my speed.I didn't get into 5th gear throughout the whole ride.
After all this, I decided that this bike wasn't for me and I opted for a Kawasaki ER-5 to learn the ropes again. I'll keep this for a few months and then possibly get a R6 or a 600cc sports equivalent.
I had a horrible feeling that if I bought the R1 I would end up in a ditch, I'm really not restrained enough to potter about on a 180mph bike.
My 500cc commuter will do me for a few months.
If you see a rather wobbly looking bloke on a blue Kawasaki Monday morning heading up the M3-M25-M4 into Heathrow, please let me through the gap.

ps- "im not restrained enogh...." few people have said this- if you are unrestrained on a big bike you will prob die- to say you are not restrained is a bit daft- like saying you cant go clay pigeon shooting in case you put the shootgun to your head!

yeah, yeah, yeah, it was only £1800 to buy a W-reg with 2,500 miles, insurance was £160 fully comp.
It'll do for a few months until I find my feet again.
Maybe next summer I'll buy a sports bike as I haven't made a will yet.

I have owned 2 R1's and they are tooooo much fun.

Just make sure you get fully comp insurance.

Always get a bkie you think will be within your capabilities.

I am thinking of getting a CBR600, but more than likely will go for something along the lines of a VFR400 if I do purchase a bike

if you are capable of turning the key and using the controls then any bike is within your capabilities.

big bikes dont ride of on their own and hope you can hold onto them!
