How can having a tattoo be non-conformist? Everyone has one now.Boring fad that just says your following the crowd like every other 'fashion statement'.They will become passe but you can't change them like your hair style, wardrobe or ipod.

True - NOT having a Tat is a statement these days .... it says that you are your own man/woman and can think for yourself.

It doesn't Pete but you like to think that. You're tarring people with the same brush again, which, for an intelligent man is very saddening as it shows you cannot think for yourself on an individual basis.

Come on CoB ... everyone and their mates have Tatts these days ... it takes someone really individual and strong to stay clean of ink.

And they are the bosses and wealthy of the future ....

Naked shopping? Only online Tony, and even then I tend to wear wellies.
Sorry I think that is BS. People do not get tatts with no regard for how they look to other people...it's the whole point. Same with breast jobs etc. Any woman who says they are 'for her' is a liar or some sort of weird lesbo narcissists.

Never noticed how people who have of visible tats etc, or weird goth types with facial piercings etc adopt a strange kind of 'I'm looking at everyone who is looking at me' body-language as they walk about?

So pete if you met somebody and you thought what a clever and smart man I'd like to hire him. But later realised he had tattoo's you'd change your opinion instantly?

Yes dear, get your head out the clouds.

I have friends that you'd probably incorrectly describe as 'weird goth types' and they have their tatts, flesh tunnels, piercings because they think they look good. I can assure you none of them care what other people think.

Clearly that's not as concrete as your informed say-so.

I think views are changing with tattoos. The ones from the war era look look terrible now compared to todays, created with the new tools and inks etc.
some tattoos created nowadays are artwork, however, you do still get some plebs getting some horrific tacky tattoos.
I personally don't have tattoos, id like one, but im always changing my mind, so i will really have to have my heart set to get it done.

But Tim, unless they're spending all day looking in the mirror, "look good" to who?

To people looking at them by definition, no??

Art is the last thing they are.

They are decoration and craft.

Good point!
If having tattoo's instantly makes you a social outcast to so many people, how do you re-assess your "judgement" of someone with NON visible tattoos?

All this talk about "look at me" appeal of tattoo's. So the nature of the person is basically decided on what they chose to wear that day and IF you can see their tattoo's or not?

Who's the lower life form, a person with a tattoo or the person that judges a book by its cover...?

It seems the only people that judge people who have tattoo's are the uneducated ones.

Depends how old the person really, and how fresh the Tatts. If it was just some stupid teenage thing (because it is childish and stupid) .... and they are now 40+ then I would go on what they offer now.

If, however, they are fresh and the person concerned is 40+ then, yes, I would have to question their state of mind .... makes sense.

If they have new Tatts and are 30+ then they haven't grown up yet - or have issues of low self esteem and trying desperately to 'fit-in' with their peers ..... so, weak willed and of poor judgement.

It DOES say a LOT about you - whether you agree or not.
