corsa driver's

I got a bloke at work with a 2007 Golf GT 1.4 tsi auto with the "sport" mode that he insists is faster than my scoob especially in the twistys.
He likes remarking on it at every chance especially infront of others - if a scoob does it or has it, his does or has better.
I don't even mention my car anymore coz he makes me so frustrated with his snide comments. He works for me also so I must bite my tongue.

I had a Corsa C on my bumper a few weeks back, got to a clear stretch of road and floored it and he was still there...
Pulled alongside him a bit further along and asked him what the **** he had under the bonnet, 2.0 turbo and 280bhp he said.
Very fast in a straight line

. I'd have murdered him in the twisties though.

Dont be to sure of that,on roundabouts may be ,but a well set up fwd car can perform quite well on country roads, ignore the swearing in the clip below ,but this nova would have clearly gone faster if the scoob had moved out the way.

It's power-to-weight and driver ability that counts.
A guy i know has a 240bhp Caterham, and was embarrasing a GT3 RS and Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera at Brands a few years back.
If a **** in a Corsa tried to race me i'm sure he'd win.... as i wouldn't take the bait.
I know i'm going to sound really boring here, but i don't get involved with 'racing' on public roads.
If the bloke racing you loses control and kills himself, or someone else, you'll be inside for 5 years.
Then when you're being f**ked by Big Barry from B wing in the showers you can boast to him how you won a race. I'm sure he'll be impressed.
Not worth it IMO, just let them get on with it.
(i'm not saying i never 'give it some' on the road, 99% of us do. But there is a time and a place, and racing a clapped out Corsaa isn't it IMO)

I think of myself as sensible but do on occasion floor it.

I've just seen a print-out from a race weekend my mate went to and two of the corsa's were running 12 seconds for the 1/4 mile !! Not many scoobs would beat that. I'd feel a lot safer in a 12 scoob though tbh!!

just read through this, since having my scooby i have heard this rubbish from various people at work (one with a 115 bhp p reg golf gti and another with a astra tdi)
all the novas that are beating imprezas are highly modded with double or more the standard horsepower.
my 04 sti is 300bhp in standard spec, if i double the bhp in my car it would no doubt beat most of the cars on the road.
a standard impreza is a better handling car than a nova and will beat most to 60 due to the 4wd.
i just shake my head at them now as it is nothing more than jelousy that my car is better and faster.

+1 agree totally with the above, what other 4 door saloon/wagon can you buy for the price of a new set of wheels & tyres and it will do 130+mph in std form, and show a clean set of heels to any fwd/rwd car in wet or difficult conditions, yet still be used to potter to the shops in the week, and able to go mental at the weekends .
