How much is land and housing etc though?
TBH I find Scandinavian countries great places to live. They have a certain social ethos which we don't have....maybe it would be impossible with our massive Lumpenproletariat? Generally I find Scandinavian people to be more cultured that us Brits, much less materialistic too and enamored with our low culture stuff like x-factor. If GTR's and Ipads are more expensive then to bad. Much of the quality of living is hard to put a price on.

Anyway, I'm tempted back to SN. Slow, though.

I only have first-hand experience of the Jutland but every house from memory was detached with land - their working-class appeared comparable to our middle-class. Still, it's all about to go ****-up.

The Lumpenproletariat in this country would be called working class but they are totally cowered and beaten, walk around shoulder rounded, hunched, eyes lowered. Pin all their hopes on the lottery or xfactor.

I think the problem with Wales and Scotland as well is our common neighbour, God has given the Welsh and Scottish two of the best countries in the world with great people, spectacular scenery and great culture but then saddles us with the neighbours from hell.

I've spent some time in Sweden as I work for a Swedish company and I have to say although the taxes are a lot higher the Swedish have a far higher standard of living.
The Swedish people don't live to work, they work to live and their taxes are far better spent than the taxes we pay in the UK.
The last time I was in Gothenburg as usual I was enjoying the night life (in the wee hours of the morning as the sun had just risen at 1.30am after setting at midnight), a couple of young Swedish lads dropped some McD's boxes and wrappers beside the bin; but within 30 seconds two Police officers arrived and frogmarched them back to the rubbish and then made them bin it.
They were then escorted up and down the pedestrian area picking up the smallest piece of rubbish until the Police officers were happy the area was clear. You have to ask if this had happened in the UK what would have happened? Probably nothing at all is the answer, and if Police had been in the area they'd have been told where to go by the youths before they ran off.

All good. Still an insurance chap but in a better job now, without the crap boss I had in the last job! Basically try to get insurers to pay up, so effectively "Gamekeeper turned poacher" Glad to hear things are going ok, quite true about the cuts unfortunately.

Heidi was a blue-eyed brunette, too, 'though the name always conjours up an image of a blond. My mate was engaged at the time and met a lady over there who was absolutely stunning; hell of a dilemma for him. He went back to Plymouth eventually - cried all the way.

Granted the cost of a GT-R or an Ipad etc is not the be all, end all of what makes a Country good to live in, I was just using it as an example of the local prices.
That said, this standard of living malarkey seems absurd to me. Someone in the media needs to be given a medal for the way they are able to downplay poverty while constantly praising our fantastic social security network.
Out of sight, out of mind?
According to the EU, every One of Five people in Finland is poor, estimates at around 900,000 people earn under 60% of median income, i.e. around €1000 a month or less.
This in a population of around 5 million.
Likewise, an average family of four, two working adults with two kids, earn on average, €2500 a month (assumed benefits from two childern, plus the income of both parents)
After income tax, thats about €1950, after rent or mortgage, its about €1000. Add onto that utilities (€60 on waterand about €60 on electricity), and and it falls to about €1830.
Studies show that a family of four, on average spend €1200 on food per month (food prices here are ridiculous)
So that falls to about €630 left, after the so called "necessities".
However, studies also show that the general Finnish household spends €8800 a year on commuting to and from work, which works out to €733 a month.
Well, fudge, I have to commute to work, so well have to spend less on food, or I'm going to be losing money to a tune of €100 a month.
It's no wonder the lines at the soup kitchen keep on piling up, and normal families cant afford to buy clothes for their kids, let alone dream of going on vacation abroad.
Yet, the politicians keep on spouting how Finland is a fantastic place to live, with amazing benefits, and world class social security. While at the same time they are astounded at the rise of the right wing movement in this country.
Sure, its fantastic to be earning €10,000 a month of taxpayer money, but if they don't stop raising their own wages each year, soon the taxpayers aren't going to be able to support their extravagant lifestyle.
From what I understand, Sweden is following suit, with the Rich/Poor divide growing each year, while in the media, stories about rising poverty etc are somewhere on page 98.

I don't care what anyone else says...the unchecked immigration of pretty much anyone who wanted to come over the last 10yrs has definately made the UK a worse place IMHO.
AND they can pretty much DO anything thy want, break laws, rape, kill, burgle and they dont get deported.....
Anyone who says differently deffo has their head in the sand as in the pic on page 1
Even the US Gov. call London - Londonistan now.....

The UK is much worse for being large gulfs between the economic classes, it's getting worse all the time too...it's a general trend in the world, probably a consequence of globalisation and pressures of Capitalism.
