They left their children alone while they went for dinner which gave an opportunist kiddie fiddler the chance he needed to pinch a little girl.
Such an inspiration to us all.
Stood there holding a book FFS? I take it the book is to pay to continue the search?
This is assuming they didn't have anything to do with it - which I doubt. Strangers in a strange land successfully hide a childs body? unlikely.

i can't imagine it would be that difficult to hide a body if you realy wanted to. Although in fairness i've never had the need to try lol

Yes if he/she'd been tracking their movements, as has been widely speculated.
I thought all angles of the original incident had been covered? To death and back, pardon the pun.

It is quite difficult to hide a body and leave no trace / clues / forensic evidence especially somewhere foreign with time against you.
It is possible to sneak into an apartment take a child whilst sleeping and slip away into the night.
#39
Thing is there is zero evidence for that, and also how many kids have been snatched in similar ways?

The strangest thing happened to me last night...
I put my dinner in the oven as normal, and I must have left it for about 30 minutes before going back to check on it.
To my surprise, when I opened the oven door, the whole thing had gone. Tray, food, everything - not a trace.

Any parent would move heaven and earth, few would be stupid, irresponsible and selfish enough to put themselves in that situation in the first place.

Ok, we all know she did something daft. We know that.
We can also presume that no Scoobynetter, in the history of the world ever, has ever just popped out while their toddler was napping etc to do something else. Including going for a meal at a holiday camp, yes. I'll bet everything i own somebody on here has done it, obviously they're not going to come forward and admit it.
But what separates the McCanns from most other victims of this sort of crime is the fact that they have become the public face of abducted children, whether you like it or not, whether they intended it or not (for the hang 'em high crew). To lots of parents, their efforts to keep this topic in the public eye whilst remaining determined to seek justice for their own loss is what people see as inspirational.
If we keep just focusing on their initial error of judgment, then of course any further rational discussion is impossible/pointless.

My take on it
a) She made a huge error in judgement - should she be villified forever for this? Personally, I think that no-one's condemnation of her will ever live up to her own condemnation of herself
b) Is she inspirational in terms of disuading others from leaving their kids unattended in a foreign hotel for protracted periods. No - she can't claim credit for this being inspirational in this respect, nor would she, I'd imagine. Threre are lessons to be learned from an individual's critical error in judgement, but that does not make that individual an inspirational figure for having made the error in the first place.
b) Should she be commended for being inspirational for trying to rectify a **** up of this magnitude....No, it's expected! The appropriate course of action here is for the media to support attempts to find Maddy, but commending the mother for trying to fix a terrible situation that she was the archietct of is not the way to go about it IMHO

Valid point of view, NS04, but again, i repeat, she clearly *is* viewed as inspirational, whether that's a misjudgment in your opinion or not. It is what it is. And since i'd consider inspirational as a positive emotion, i don't think her inclusion on the list is a bad thing, if some people somewhere are drawing strength from her actions.

"The property in Praia da Luz, Portugal, has remained empty since Maddie’s disappearance in May 2007 and the owner’s plans to sell the apartment have so far proved unsuccessful.
According to the Sunday Mirror, the owner of the property Ruth McCann, who is not related to Madeleine’s family, has taken the flat off the market after failing to find a buyer.

The only way I can see that the Maddie situation has inspired anyone, is by teaching others not to be so stupid.
I'm afraid that if you leave your children alone and unattended then therenis a chance something will happen, even if it's something minor such as falling out if a bunk bed, or slipping on a wet floor. These two examples alone can have minor or major consequences.
I agree with you Tel, people probably have left their children with these baby sitter type services, but I I agine that nobody else would now.
I think also the area they were in attracted a lot of unsavoury characters due to it being quite affluent. It is probably a prime target for theft.
Perhaps it was a robbery gone wrong, expecting the place to be empty. Panic set in and Maddie was taken.
Or it was a case of child abduction, by someone who must have been watching them for quite some time.
Or there is the chance that something terrible happened to Maddie whilst in the care of her parents.
Was there not some blood stained items in the boot of their car? Was it not prooved to be Maddie's blood?

Depends who did the "proving" over the blood.
There is no evidence which points in any particular direction so there is no point in speculation.
All we can say is that the fact the children were left alone as they were is unforgiveable.

Might be worth pointing out though that this "Top 20" was compiled by Woman and Home (no pun intended) magazine, whic has a readership of about 20, all of whom should probably have been watching their children rather than completing an on-line questionnaire Hence their responses may have been a little biased
Joking aside though, If this coverage helps find little Maddie then fine!

Well deserved. I knew this would bring the 'experts' out in Scoobynet who all know exactly what happened of course.
You can all surmise but at the end of the day you dont know anything at all.
RTFB.

Equally, neither do you then - so following your own logic, the facts remain unclear regarding their involvement so for all she "may not" be complicit there remains an equal possibility that she "may" be complicit. So by default you could be praising a potential criminal.
